I think that is a good idea. However do not quite understand the time addition you mention in the end?
As RVGL is used by most, and the rules don't specify this, I think it should be allowed. As it only makes the game faster. With games with loading times there will always be an advantage for people with higher end spec PC's. Thus I think it should be allowed as it is accessible to anyone.
After Andor's no pickup run, great run btw, I want to know the opinion of you guys. Whether to open a new catogery, so to split it up into 2 categories (with and without pickups). Or just leave it like this, so you can run the game to your preference.
I will change it, as it seems logical for IL. For any% you can submit it, if it would be too much difference I can change it to 2 different categories if that is necessary.
So far we allowed all versions used for runs, whether it was v1.10, v1.20 or the 1207 patch.
Always nice to see more people trying to pick up this game and speedrun it. In answer to your questions:
-
I personally found that the 1207 patch is slightly faster than the 1.2 version, as the AI in the 1.2 version are a bit more aggressive. But there is no large difference between the two versions.
-
You should always try to pick the fastest car or the car with the handling that suits you most. In the runs you can only choose the cars unlocked, so with the all cups run there is not a lot of choice for cars.
-
Did try a run with simulation difficulty, it felt like the AI were a bit faster. Biggest issue in regard to the speed of the run was that the AI will hit you in the back and you will spin your car, as opposed to arcade where the car will likely push you and you'll gain speed.

As far as I know there haven't been any skips found. I have tried to find skips with damage boosting and resetting the car but with no luck so far.
-
Just download via revoltrace.net , both versions are available there. Since an authentic copy isn't available for sale anymore as far as I'm aware
-
Just play a lot, every game takes time to master ;). If you start with practicing cups, you'll find out what your weaker tracks are and than you can practice them in single races.
-
For racing lines, they can be more optimized, but that is speaking over tenths of a second. Routing wise, the all cups run is linear, as you'll need to win a cup to advance to the next one. For the 100% run, the route is, at least I think so, optimal unless skips are found.
Hopefully this will help you further :D
As Delecto said, the idea didn't die. If there is interest in running these categories, even if it would mean a category side to side with www.revoltrace.net . I would gladly introduce the flyinglap and 3-lap race category to Speedrun.com
I did some practice this morning, and the R6 Turbo is way faster than RC San. Then I did a full run with your strats Delecto, and I had a very consistent run. I think that this is probably the fastest route already, at the moment unless you can get Zipper, but I can't get the practice star at Toytanic 1 and Museum 1 with the cars at that moment.
And about the sub 2 hours... It is possible ;)
My first attempts I used a very simple route, which is probably not the fastest as I didn't get the best cars in the beginning. I just started with my all cups route and then: All Practice Stars /w Cougar All Time Trials /w Toyeca Stunt Arena /w Panga + Toyeca (had the same problem lel) The run was about a 2.10.00, still with mistakes.
I would say that your routing is pretty decent, especially with getting Toyeca early on to use for the platinum cup. For this route I have to get more comfortable with the R6 Turbo, and learn the platinum cup practice stars with the Panga.
For my run I probably will stick /w RC San for Silver and Gold Cup for now and come back for the practice stars
I've added the 100% and stunt arena to the categories. For the individual levels, should we do a 3 lap race with 8 competitors or would people rather have time trial times so there is no RNG
I did some 100% runs some time ago. Where I used completing the progress table as 100%. For this run I set the number of laps to 1, to shorten the races to be won.
Also I like the ideas for stunt arena and individual levels as categories, I think the more the better!
I haven't tried a different version than the 1.10, I'll definitely take a look into 1207 if others use it to make it even, if there would be a clear advantage due to the difference in AI
