Heh, thanks so much :) I look forward to our future battles for the best time ;)
I am surprised this game didn't take off more with how fantastic of a speedrunning system the time trials were. I'm also surprised I haven't found a 100% save of the game - But I guess that might be due to how long it would take to beat all the opponents in all of the races. Would probably take more time than career mode. The 24 hour pin would take the longest, though.
Since you took my gold, I feel it's only right to take your gold place... I apologize in advance
Skeel I think you're right... I didn't even realize, going backwards to let the back of the car get damaged instead of the front is definitely a good strat. That way you still have steering
On the Discord we recently had a discussion about simplified physics and how they relate to the scenario Freeform Mountain Climb. Often the vehicle's tire would get stuck in the body and cause a failure.
There are lots of arguments for and against simplified collision physics (in scenarios with single cars only, so time trials and such), and I definitely haven't listed them all, especially in the "for" category. What is everyone's thoughts?
For allowing it to be enabled:
It can allow certain runs to be more consistent, because it fixes bugs with certain vehicles (the off-road truck in FFMC, the pre-runner truck)
It doesn't actually change how vehicles handle or perform (for example, in my testing there was proof that suspension travel does not increase)
Statements against:
It could complicate the rules
It may make certain scenarios have obsolete times if disabling it gives a noticeable advantage (for scenarios that allow it being enabled)
It would make running certain scenarios easier (FFMC for example), which is a "skill issue." But could obsolete old times unfairly, maybe.
It may open the floodgates for more scenarios allowing it to be enabled
If you think of something, reply please
So I'm gonna have to argue against the replay feature - It does sound really good as an idea, however, the second I turn on replay my PC is bogged down. That's without even recording the game. I am 100% with you on the 'bad actors' part, though. More should be done to enforce fair play.
I think the people I run against are fair, real, and honest - and that's probably me trusting too much. I still have recognized quite a few times how easy it is to cheat in Beamng speedruns. Insanely easy. Using mods, editing video, and more. In fact, more than once the idea of a LUA script to edit Garage to Garage runs has come up, and I just don't think it should be allowed to edit the game. I can't even imagine how the time trial or drag strip runs are vetted, when using Agent_Y's mod, or editing files to increase grip by even 1% more is going to be an advantage.
No mean to dis you, but this point "(smth i forgot to mention. it also seems pretty easy to play the game in slowmo and then speeding it back up in video editing software, to pass it off as legit. menu & ui sounds aren't slowed and pitched but everything else is. this is a problem!)"
is a bit bogus, too. If you've ever sped up the slowed down audio, it isn't perfect sounding. Even 2X slow-mo sped back up has some artifacting to it, and the further you go the more noticeable it is. It's like the video editing argument in general - Anyone can edit a video and make something seem more legitimate than it is, like I could slow down Mario 64 in Cheat engine and speed it back up later. If you have real concerns about slow motion gameplay, you should point out suspect videos and why you think they're suspect to the mods. And that's only the video editing aspect - There's of course gameplay tells with slowed down video. Lots of scenarios include player input as UI apps, too.
I think the only way to mostly reduce any possible cheating is Beamng themselves creating a speedrun launcher option, which includes a watermark and certain tells that 'proves' a player is playing fair. What those certain tells are? IDK. But I also think more could still be done by the mod team in rule setting, similar to some of your suggestions, cuz I think cheating is far too easy right now. There might even be one among us, spooky.
I do apologize XOFzx. When I made this run, I probably didn't think it was very important, or forgot to check altogether. I have definitely changed my stance - Sound is very important in verifying a run's legitimacy.
In any case, there's good news - I have a very concrete plan of beating this run WITH sound this time (maybe in 2 weeks). And it'll probably be in 4K, plus widescreen, plus 60FPS. Just no HDR :(
