Take a look at a console run such as this https://www.speedrun.com/gtavc/runs/yd13gwqy
Basically it works in the same way, but you need a method to get onmission0 calls without using replays. The main way of doing this on console is to enter a cop car which is parked on top of a save icon, then try and trigger vigilante as the savewarp occurs, get out while holding R3 (or your side-mission button), release R3 when the phone rings, then use L1 (etc.) to hold the call as necessary
Because if not then apparently the main game I moderate (GTA Vice City) is just stuck with PS2 being the top (default) option even though the vast majority of runs are done on PC.
If 1) you live streamed it, 2) it's not WR, and 3) the break is short enough between the parts, then it's acceptable. At least that's how it used to be back when such submissions were more common, so I don't have an objection. But yeah, always locally record and submit uploaded recordings, preferably.
That's done by cancelling a rampage by playing a replay which is over 2 minute in-game time in the future. So the strat is to just start a new game, sit on a rampage until a little over 2:19 (2 minutes + intro cutscene) has passed, then play the replay once to start the rampage and a second time to cancel it and get 30k ammo.
Pretty much; it doesn't make sense to use pure IGT since you can't really account for the time in between scenarios. But if AoM's IGT could be replicated with an autosplitter then something like IGT plus RTA in between scenarios would probably be better
After some investigation regarding a runner who had a faster-running game than others, it appears that version 1.10 of the Android version runs at a faster rate than all of the other versions, and we now have an official fastest version of the game. Perhaps someone knew of this before, but I could not find any information about this anywhere during my investigation. I was able to test 1.07, 1.09, 1.10, 1.11, and 1.12; only 1.10 ran faster.
So going forward, you will be required to select your game version upon submitting runs. If you know your game version on older runs for a fact, feel free to edit your runs and we will re-verify them.
If you have difficulty finding a download for version 1.10, I got you covered. Message me if you have any issues.

Hey, we were at ESA 2016 (European speedrunner assembly) in Växjö Sweden, and I believe we were playing on the dosbox emulator on my (at the time) midrange Dell laptop, probably using default settings. I believe jonesinthefastlane.com for example uses adjusted settings to run at a normal speed though so some leaderboard changes could be considered if needed to keep runs at a consistent speed going forward and separate runs like this one which were done out of the blue for fun
OK I added a quick "no cheats" clause to the game rules, though unspoken speedrun common sense dictates that by default, cheat codes added by developers are disallowed whereas glitches are allowed.
We used to actually have categories for all the difficulties, but nobody cared about Easy/Moderate/Hard; Easiest was kept on the off-chance of there being some interesting strategies unique to it, though overall it is kind of ignored, yeah. Could be removed at some point but I don't think it's a big deal either way.
I don't know what's different about starting paramedic in that version, but timing should start the moment anything related to the side-mission is triggered, whether the om1 state, text, or some animation comes first
I sometimes forget the website even exists and it seems like that's currently the case with the other mods as well. If you're interested in doing more runs though, I'll make an effort to check for AoM submissions more often.
You can go ahead and submit runs with the city bus but I wouldn't make a new category for it unless it became a competitive sub-category in of itself. Potentially we could have a variable to display which vehicle was used though, so that people could see that straight from the leaderboard.
I requested a "series" to be added for Shadow Tactics so that I could add Aiko's Choice, but for some reason whoever approved it didn't add me as a mod... need to get that sorted out
Post any and all instapasses here because nobody wants to have to dig stuff up in Discord.
Taxi Driver (almost) You can break out of the cutscene by canceling taxi, but there's a "perma-instance" of taxi that crashes your game once you get it canceled somehow (e.g., via dying).
Distribution w/ Two Bit Hit (1.0/1.01 only)
Distribution w/ Test Track
SSA Race 1
Juju Scramble (1.0/1.01 only)
Cap the Collector (<1.04 ONLY)
Bombs Away w/ Test Track
Bombs Away w/ Vigilante Kill remaining instance either with a well-timed Vigilante start RIGHT before the end of the cutscene fade-out, or just go blow up the van. https://streamable.com/lmfrz4
Cabmaggedon Kill leftover instance with Distribution or om1 rampage death
That makes it sound like it's checking a different directory for the game files for some reason, and thus isn't getting the correct resolution from your normal settings file in GTA Vice City User Files. Make sure you aren't using any compatibility mode stuff for either dxwnd or the game, and maybe try different versions of dxwnd or something.
Q: Why is the game in Asian? A: Full-game speedruns of Vice City are typically done on the Japanese version because it is one of the so-called "Haitian-friendly" versions (look it up if you don't know what that means). This means the mission script has been slightly modified from the original game, which in turn is relevant for different instapasses. The only other Haitian-friendly PC versions are the German Green Pepper version (no rampages and two cut missions, severely altering the route in a bad way and its 100% isn't considered 100% for leaderboard purposes), the Australian version (game crashes on Dildo Dodo and upon entering the Ammu-Nation menu), and the Polish version (technically unofficial and same issues as Australian version). You can technically use the Australian version for No SSU since Ammu-Nation isn't used in the route, but there's no real advantage to being able to switch languages nowadays anyway.
@Mattwell Not sure this is the right thread for you to be posting this but whatever. If you stream on Twitch, there's only a ~2-3 second delay nowadays, but if you're concerned about CPU usage there are some things you can do to reduce it:
-
Using NVENC encoding (if you have an NVIDIA GPU)
-
Making the x264 encoding CPU usage "faster". The default is veryfast, you can try superfast but it'll probably reduce the quality of the stream so you'd have to increase your bitrate to compensate (but which in turn is an extra load on your bandwidth)
Besides that, you can do private streams on Discord and Steam quite easily without OBS. For Discord, you join a voice channel and select "Screen" on the bottom of the lefthand side to select an application to stream to other voice channel participants. For Steam, someone who has you added as a friend can choose to watch your game if they right-click on you in the friends list and select "Watch Game", which automatically streams your game.
Sorry if any of this is stuff you already know.
