Previously the locking of your world was considered the start of the run, but we have decided to instead change it to the first interaction you have with the world, excluding lock placement and movement.
Over the past couple days we've been working on some minor changes to the rules. We've been lenient about the rules in the past, and have chosen to verify runs that didn't receive much of an advantage despite breaking one or more of the rules, but moving forward this will no longer happen. Due to the sudden influx of runners, we have decided to be a lot more strict with future submitted runs. Here are the changes that were made:
For the standard purchase lock category, runs must record both the world creation and the lock placement. Instead of beginning on the placement of the lock, timing now starts on the first interaction with the world itself (i.e. breaking blocks). This is so we have the ability to set the level requirement and lock out other players from entering the world. The world you choose to use must also not have had any prior interaction to it in the past, which can be anything that would result in this no longer being considered a newly generated world. Along with items of any kind, gems and mods obtained before starting the run are also not able to be used. Items obtained from special events are also banned from use.
For any of the categories not mentioned, we encourage you to read the rules once more before attempting a run. After selecting the category you want, the "View rules" button is located on the top right of the page. Thank you.
Using growpedia during your run is against the rules, however simply using that to lock your world is fine
For the splice category, only seed packs are banned, but the use of growspray purchased with gems gained during the run is encouraged. I don’t believe any other category would have any use for shop purchases, but there aren’t currently any restrictions for it
I would always fail that method and don't know why. This one is a lot easier, at least for me, the only part you really need to pay attention to is the first nut.
Yeah, that should be fine. The runs won't differ by much
You can use the spray nozzle to clip through the star doors, so the ones that lead to bowser. You can use this to do 1 star without LBLJ or SBLJ. I still don't think it's enough to get the spray nozzle its own category though, it doesn't have much use outside of 1 star.
Using your geiger in Geiger Hills will not cause it to use up. You could use it 100 times and still have charge left.
I've added Kart City to the IL categories. There isn't a consumable jammer there, so there's more potential for geared runs.
@Forrest1701 I checked out the world, and I see no noticeable change from the last 4 or so years, so I added it to the level categories.
It's shown there too now, it's on the 5th line in the rules.
You are allowed to bring a single lock, and the timer starts when it's placed. Any type of lock is allowed. The difference between the old rules and new is very minor and shouldn't have been separated in the past.
If you've got a request for either a level or full-game category, leave it here.
Although it has to be fair. It can't include trading as prices fluctuate and it could be abused with friends. You also can't request your worlds because those are subject to change, while official ones like Growganoth really don't.
