#NEW! UPGRADING 2 Cars instead of 1 (SC to DC) 101% Tip So every website I've tried to learn this bug from, are incredibly vague and don't actually tell you anything...
Most people trying to perform this bug from an online explanation, might get lucky and achieve it, but youll never really know the actual prompts of what you did to allow it and what didnt... The guide below may be revised overtime as quicker ways are discovered, but this method will help you achieve it without error in the meantime, so you dont have to spend 30 minutes driving back to D.C. each time you want to test a more accurate method.... My method is accurate, and as fast as I could make it, accuracy was the huge problem originally with this exploit, and if there's a faster way to do it, I urge someone to let me know so I can update this.
In 101% ... you have to Reset 29 times throughout the run, you want to KNOW how to do this accurately, and quickly.
-------__-------__-------__-------__-------__-------__-------
- Easy Upgrade
You can win every race with a Blue Jeep if you only want 1 upgrade for a lower level car. Pick blue jeep & whatever other, and simply beat 13 races with blueJEEP & last race with lower level car. [ONLY ALLOWED IN 101% since 101% is RTA ... this is not allowed in any IGT primary run categories.}
- Double Upgrade
Step 1: Select 2 different cars, on 2 different files, both set to difficulty needed for the upgrade NOT HIGHER/NOT LOWER, both cars should be of same class if you want 2 upgrades.
Step 2: Reach Washington D.C. on 2-Player, pause immediately once level loads, and quit
Step 3: At home screen, do not restart Console... load up Player 1's profile ONLY, and complete the race
Step 4: Let it award all 14 stars, RESET the console the moment you hear "Duh Duh" with your RED hot time flashing, prior to the license plate screen.
Step 5: Let the game load up to the home screen again, & load up Player 2's profile this time, with Controller 1, and complete the race.
Step 6: Let it award all 14 stars, RESET the console the moment you hear "Duh Duh" with your RED hot time flashing, prior to the license plate screen.
Step 7: Let the game load up to the home screen again, & load up your next segment, now check your upgrades. CONGRATS! #Rank? Rank = This is your position globally, based on your time #Players? #What is Trans? (Transmission)
Trans? = Short for Transmission, this is where you tell us if you're driving Automatically, or Manually.
#What is ASB?
ASB = Alternate Shift Boosting, this is a method performed with the Blue Jeep while driving Manual... involving Downshifting and Upshifting rapidly, while driving in the dirt, for a speed boost exploit ... Did you do this? (Y / N)
DKR Paddy's original explanation
Now it is getting really crazy!! We will be going from Top Speed 278 to 319. This technique was also recently found by Icy and outside of TAS can so far only be used with the Blue ATV. Once you shift up and reached near top speed (usually above 260km/h are fine) start continuously shifting down and up again. It's probably best to assign shift up/down to L and R and go crazy on both like in that Pokemon Stadium Sandshrew minigame. This onyl works if you are at top speed, so if you were to hit a tree or slow down for any reason and you keep shifting down/up you end up losing even more speed than you normally would.
This is an example of US 101 before this technique was found:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgdrS5yKT8I
And this is what it got to:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgR1Embwmlo
Warning: This is very physically demanding, stop before you hurt yourself :P
#What is Mode?
Mode? = Below are the following 4 modes to run in.
SP (Single Player)
2PC (2-Player Challenge)
NT (No Traffic IL's)
NC (No Competition IL's)
#What is 2PCS?
2PCS = (2 Player Challenge Slingshot) Is an exploit that involves rubberbanding back to 2nd player, if he passes you... this is a very tricky maneuver as it involves Duel Wielding 2 N64 controllers for the start of every level, and is a definite upgrade, from your typical 4-3-4 Faster Acceleration method.. which can also be combined with 2PCS... It only saves about 1 second, each time performed, if done precise, but if you master it, you can perform it 2 times in one level, making sub 19:45 possible for NG... No runner has successfully performed this yet, did you do this? (Y / N)
IN DEPTH GUIDE (Video soon...)
Load up 2player, 1 Player being the NG Requirement Stage 1 Grey Devastator on New Game with desired control scheme, and the other player can be a fast car of your choosing, i prefer the blue jeep because he can drive in dirt.
.
.
.
So
.
.
in 2 players, as long as the second player falls behind the first player, you will get a really good speed boost.
.
To prolong passing player 1, that is why i recommend blue jeep
.
The longer you stay behind him, the longer you get your speed boost.
.
.
.
You will eventually catch up depending on your timing methods, and usually can only save a couple seconds per level if done properly.
.
.
With this, you can achieve speeds of up to 260kph & as a bonus for playing on 2player, you get to know your splits each checkpoint, compared to your best run without resetting the cart, also there is only oncoming traffic, all right side traffic was eliminated from 2 player to allow the game to load smoothly, however they didn't fully fix the frame issue, so you're definitely sacrificing framerate, which "in turn" makes turning harder with this method
.
.
Please see any recent time submit of mine, for video example, takes a bit to master.
Sub 20 lets go, who will be the first one to get it.
.
Get grinding.
#What is TTTSkips?
TTTSkips = Top 10 Time Skips or Hot Time Skips.... Finishing each level slower than your top 10 times, can actually save RTA, this is helpful for when you want to make RTA split comparisons, against a runners IGT. Eventually we will have a graph that displays all dialogue time loss for EMU or Console, as well as Level load times for Emu & console, with split conversion formulas being provided to Convert IGT to RTA, this will help you create an RTA leaderboard to race against, if you so wish to do so. [Conversion formulas... Coming soon]

#4-3-4 Manual Shift Boosting?
This is referring to not initiating your traditional upshifting method of 1-2-3-4 with manual driving. Rather 4-3-4 shifting... You want to start accelerating from 0kph in 4th gear, until 36kph, than shift down to 3, until 136kph, than shift back up to 4th (Way faster accelerating)
So
4th Gear at 000kph+ (4)
3rd Gear at 036kph+ (3)
4th Gear at 136kph+ (4)
Here is DKRPaddy's original explanation
Automatic vs Manual: With regular shifting up Automatic gives you better results at first (we usually were between 0.1 and 0.17 faster) but with Manual you catch up on the long run.
4-3-4 Shifting Technique: A faster technique to shift up in Manual mode recently found by Icy. You shift all the way up before the race starts to 4th gear. As you reach between 32 and 40 km/h shift down to 3rd gear. The point for shifting up to 4th gear again seems to be not that precise. I got almost identical results trying anything between 80 and 160 km/h. I usually go for 140 km/h now. So far we have saved up to a third of a second with this (tested with the unupgraded Devestator)
(I really think if there ever is any separation between any glitch/glitchless categories, this should really be fine for glitchless. It's not essentially gamebreaking, just a little trick making the shifting a bit faster and a bit more consistent.)
Here is a little showcase:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxJZnNKKaZk
#Why Blue Jeep?
Here is DKRPaddy's original explanation
Game creator probably wanted to give you a vehicle that can compensate for little sand and grass you hit here and there but therefore is a little slower overall. Turns out though once you get the last upgrade of the ATV and drive offroad, you reach speed that no other vehicle can by just driving clean on the road. Therefore the goal for driving with the blue ATV is to have the best possible line avoiding driving on the road as much as possible to take optimal advantage of the offroad speed benefit.
Here is a little demonstration of how it is done on Arizona:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0b0ha0fpqg
Again, if we ever were to make a difference between glitch/glitchless this should really be fine, as its just making use of a mechanic build in the game.
#SOFT turning
SOFT or HARD turn? ~ (Preventing 234kph - Maintaining 241's - Hitting 246's)
How to achieve the fastest possible time in a race involves a number of things...
1. Achieving the fastest possible acceleration.
2. Preventing any Slow-Down from occurring.
3. Cutting track length, by taking all inner turns, & driving straight.
3. Maintaining the highest possible speed average, until you reach the finish line.
But in this guide, we will be discussing ONLY turn related matters.
SOFT TURNING EXPLANATION
Max speed on NG as we all know is 241kph, sometimes achieving 244kph. on downward turns... HOWEVER with smoother turning downhill, you can achieve up to 247kph(rare) usually 246kph though. Same with uphill turns, you will suffer less speed loss with a smoother uphill turn, saving a frame every 1, or 2 turns.
This method allows a faster
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Golden Gate Park time (-0.00.100 off of WR)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
San Francisco (Maintaining your 241's in tunnel, with smooth turning, (-0.00.130 off of WR)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
US 101 Time (If you're hitting your low-jumps, creating no speed loss, your time can be -0.01.000 faster than WR)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
I find going into the controls and adjusting the steering sensitivity to Orange (4/5), instead of Yellow (3/5) allows for easier ST's
#HARD turning
SOFT or HARD turn? ~ (Preventing 234kph - Maintaining 241's - Hitting 246's)
How to achieve the fastest possible time in a race involves a number of things...
1. Achieving the fastest possible acceleration.
2. Preventing any Slow-Down from occurring.
3. Cutting track length, by taking all inner turns, & driving straight.
3. Maintaining the highest possible speed average, until you reach the finish line.
But in this guide, we will be discussing ONLY turn related matters.
Now lets talk about HARD TURNING, around flat, sharp, repetitive bends
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
Q: "What do you do about bends, with no slopes at all, just flat & sharp turning? it's hard to soft turn without hitting oncoming traffic, ESPECIALLY when the turns are sharp & repetitive like San Francisco Tunnel, & Beverly Hills... what do I do to maintain my 241kph's in this situation??"
A: "Ahh yes, this problem I have been slowly starting to notice as I've been trying to master top speed maintenance...and as far as i'm aware, the only thing that works in these situations, that will keep you at full speed most of the time, is REPETITIVE HARD FLICK/JERK TURNS, as these turns are so fast, that the game considers you STILL driving straight for the most part, which will (you guessed it) prevent speed loss... Repetitive Jerk Turning, or Flick Turning, i'll often refer to as HARD TURNING for short
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
The hard turn, & soft turn is crucial for maintaining your 241kph's in certain situations, and you must master soft and hard turns, + when to use them, in order for maximum level time potential combining with techniques such as, 4-3-4's & 2 Controller Slingshot method.
#Traffic Patterns (Is their a rhythm? or is it RNG)
It would appear Drunk Drivers are RNG, however certain cars in certain instances, always seem to be in the same spots if you reach that point in the race at the same time
Also a quick added bonus, i've noticed traffic spawning only occurs several feet away from the starting point, because i believe if anything causes you to go behind the starting point, the game will either crash or complete the race (possible future exploit)
Also they spawn in a rhythm of 1,2,4, & 6 seconds, which is good to note, if you've into an untypical pace, creating an uncommon traffic seed/rhythm. Typically if you see one oncoming car, than their will be one on your side UNLESS you get 1 second car'd, or "double car'd" which can throw you off if you're on an odd pace and your not expecting the impending SEED lineup of traffic awaiting you.
Also it should be important to note, that frame rates are slow on 2 player mode, meaning they had to eliminate half the traffic, in 2 player mode, their are more drunk drivers, and choppier frame rates, meaning its difficult to turn, but you will only have to deal with oncoming traffic.
#What is RTA
This is often referred to as REAL TIME, or the politically correct way is REAL TIME ATTACK.
The second your run starts, to the time it ends, is often your RTA or Real Time
#What is IGT
This is often referred to as IN-GAME TIME, the primary method of submitting times...
The game keeps track of each race time, and tells you your total IGT when you cross the 14th finish line.
The second your run starts, to the time it ends, subtracting all NON-RACE TIME is often your IGT or In-Game Time.
#How will we be tracking our time?
Our primary submit standards currently, are for IGT.
#What is Emu
Emu refers to Emulation or Emulator, which is a type of software, that mimics a console, and often plays ROM Files, as opposed to traditionally physical Game Disks, Cart, etc.
#What is N64
Oh boy sit back and watch this...

#What is Arcade
According to oxford, an arcade is a covered passageway with arches along one or both sides.
So let me just show you this video instead...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Feaphb1SGmU&ab_channel=TwistedGamingTV
#What is TDTL
TDTL refers to Total Dialogue Time Loss... this is the time lost, during every second, you aren't racing., and is only an RTA issue currently, will not affect your IGT.

#How to play Washington D.C.
This is a lot easier than most people think, just get to the last level, and quit the game, upon returning it will allow you to continue from Washington D.C. ... doing this you can play the level over and over as long as you do not finish the race.
#How to use Sirens
To activate flashing lights and sirens:
Get a high score on any race. Then, after entering your initials at the "Hot Times" screen, scroll to the bottom of the High Scores list and hold the d-pad diagonal (DOWN-LEFT). A conveyer belt will move; and after 30 seconds a head will scroll by saying, "I love this job!"
Release the buttons and return to the vehicle selection screen. Choose either the patrol car or school bus by highlighting an automobile - not the Ferrari - and pressing: up-C + left-C + down-C.
To activate lights and siren, press: BRAKE [twice] and then hold GAS while driving.
(Note: While this cheat only works with the patrol car and school bus, it will enable brake lights on other cars.) This could create possible exploits currently undiscovered,
#How to use Nitrous
To activate a cheat, get a high score on any race. Then, after entering your initials at the "Hot Times" screen, scroll to the bottom of the High Scores list and hold the d-pad diagonal (DOWN-LEFT). A conveyer belt will move; and after about 30 seconds a head will scroll by saying, "I love this job!" During the game, following each checkpoint, press: Brake [three times], Gas, Brake, and Gas. (The nitrous are STACKABLE, but do not carry over to the next level & can only be used with S Class cars)
#Easy to upgrades (Get 2 upgrades, per 1 cruise)
You can upgrade 2 times, by completing a career instead of once, if you follow this method.
Faster beating 100% and 101%
Here's a faster way to update cars in a two-player game.
Start a two-player game, and race until you reach Washington D.C. When the DC race begins, press Start and quit the game.
Next, have player #1 return to Washington D.C. and upgrade his car. After player #1 has finished, player #2 should do the same thing. Happy cruising!
#Bugs Splattering & Birds S#!tting on your Windshield
To see flies splatter against the windshield (and an occasional bird dropping), drive through Iowa or Indiana in cockpit view!
#Crashing into helicopter on US 101
Unsure if this causes anything, but is possible to achieve if you perfectly time a jump with a helicopter.
#Low jumps on US 101 & Appalachia
Doing a low jump, which appears to be a random bug, will prevent you from losing any speed, typically you'll stay at 241kph for NG when this happens.
#Secret trigger events in levels.
1. IOWA HITCHHIKER
In Iowa, after passing the second field of corn you will see a lone pine tree on the left side of the road and a hitchhiker standing beside it. Slowly ram the pine. The woman standing next to it will now be holding a sign.
2. WASHINGTON D.C. TANKS
In Washington D.C. youll notice 2 Tanks prior to passing under a bridge, if you slam into the breaks, you can acctually pass through the tank, but it will not allow you to completely stop your car, while inside the tank, youl typically travel 15kph until you are on the outside of the tank.
3.Grand Canyon Short Cut
After the first checkpoint in the Grand Canyon, straddle the shoulder on the right side of the road until you see a dirt ramp. Leaving the road, take the ramp and cross the bridge. [Unsure if this does anything or if it just slows you down more]
4. Washington D.C. Shortcut (unconfirmed)
According to several online cheat websites, In DC, there is a construction wall on the left side of the road. Squeeze through the partition to quickly reach the next checkpoint. I am unable to replicate this.
5. Thwart Leader in Chicago
Chicago
After the first two turns in Chicago, you'll see a car along the right side of the road. Hit it and it will fall right in front of the first place driver!
6. Thwart Leader in Grand Canyon
Scattered along the roadside in Grand Canyon are boulders from rockslides. Hit them and they will roll in front of the first place driver!
7. Lost Wheels (2 Player Trigger Effect)
After a two-player challenge game, the losing player's right front wheel will fall off if you continuously rotate the analog joystick clockwise. This should happen after the car rotates 3-4 times. Talk about driving till the wheels fall off!, or sometimes you will randomly just hear a random Screeching noise, with no wheels falling off anyones car.
#How do I upgrade my car
To do this you need to go into your options,
All your cars are the standard C-Class cars, when you load a New Game (NG) File.
To unlock B-Class
Go into your options and make sure your difficulty is 1 of 5 or higher, now race and complete the game with a C-Class car, you will than unlock that vehicles B-Class
To unlock A-Class
Go into your options and make sure your difficulty is 3 of 5 or higher, now race and complete the game with a B-Class car, you will than unlock that vehicles A-Class
To unlock S-Class
Go into your options and make sure your difficulty is 5 of 5, now race and complete the game with a A-Class car, you will than unlock that vehicles S-Class
