60FPS frame rate via Nvidia geforce drivers

As the title suggests, since GeForce Driver version 441.87, you can cap your fps for specific games. Update your driver if your version is below 441.87 (via geforce)

Then, open your Nvidia control panel, 3D settings, and choose Ori. If the game is not in the list of choice, you will have to find the .exe manually. You can then scroll down and cap your fps via the Max frame rate option, as shown below :

#**Before we begin**

Just so everyone understands, this category was Any%unrestricted, but there was a trick found with prologue which would have ended this route. So the categories were split in two; Any% and Any%nmg. This is still the main category. The other route is basically 1 min of gameplay then 6 min of cutscene.

#**Introduction**

I hope I can help new people get into the Out of Bounds Speedrun with this guide. Glad if it helps :)

This guide is for Any% no menu glitches (easy) routes suggestions to start with. 

I made 3 routes you can use as steps for your runs, start with the first one and then advance if you feel like it.
With every new route there are new skips tricks to learn. Thats how I started to speedrun this category and I think its a pretty fun way to learn the game and the tricks. If you'd just try to copy one of the top runs I am very sure you'd give up.

Every route has a full walkthrough video with comments. The bigger tricks are marked with a T in the video and have separate videos explaining them further. 


**Also, please make sure you read the comments of the Trick videos, I will do my best to post updated version/newer versions of the strats! **

#**Keyboard and Mouse vs Controller in Any%**

Both are viable. But if I had to make a recommandation, I'd say Keyboard and Mouse. 

-> Keyboard and Mouse have some easier setups, because they can actually aim with their mouse. 
->Controller sadly has a very hard time doing shop anywhere, a trick that can buy you extra shards, which is very usefull. 

I think in this category Keyboard and Mouse are the most favoured. Still if you very much more like to play on Controller, its not a big dissadvantage, like we can see from the TOP RUNNER Snowstrom18.

I play with keyboard and mouse and its really recommanded to work out a custom control scheme. Doing sentry jumps with keyboard and mouse is rather hard. Having two keyboard buttons next to each other for sentry jumps and clips is really good. As a reference this is my control scheme:

##Description
This route goes for **early sentry** to be able to do sentry jumps as early as possible. It goes for **Bash** what isnt requierd for the run, but helps newer players with movement. You do **Silent clip** to skip the swimming section, this will probably take some time to learn the timing. Also make sure you are running with 60 FPS (Vsync ON), if not the clip wont work. From there you get Ku and rush through everything until you enter **Feeding Grounds**. There you have to do some sjumps to activate the cutscene further up to get into the wall. Make your way to Shriek and then by leaving and reentering the willow kill/skip **Shriek**.

##Changes to the route:
In this route we skip **Bash**, this will save alot of time, though there will be generelly harder movement over the whole run. Especially willow will be definitly very diffrent to play through. Another thing this route skips is **Ku**, Ku skip is a cutscene skip which allows us to go through the Ku section without Ku. The third big new part is **elevator skip**, we skip the whole elevator section with a hard OOB.

##Changes to the route:
This route just changes the early game of the route, the later route should be exactly the same. The early route is very very hard to do because of 2 tricks: **dash to sword** and **bow lift**. After getting **sentry** this route gets **bow** and heads instantly down to **dash**. From there you either do a **bow lift** off the chrusher, or take the casaul route. We go up to a certain spike spot, where we can get out of bounds. This out of bounds seaquence is probably the hardest trick in ori speedruns currently. It requires alot of patience and practice. From there you get **sword**, (**double jump**) and then teleport back up to the teleporter we activated before. There we head to Twillen and buy some **free Shards**. From there the route is the same, except if you go for **no double jump**, then some setups are a bit different.

Controller Rebinding with Steam Config

Hi! There are a couple of really useful bindings you can make to execute certain inputs on the same frame (as allowed by leaderboard rules) to perform optimised tech in Ori WOTW, and Steam Controller Config is a really powerful and customisable tool to achieve this. It is a tad confusing initially though and there are some particular hurdles with this game’s button scheme that need to be overcome, which is why I’ve made this guide.

If you’re already familiar with Steam Config and want to see my bindings, or you just want to play around with my bindings yourself to figure things out, ~~or you can’t be bothered reading this over-detailed guide~~, paste this link into your browser, which will open the Steam client to a copy of my bindings for you to use: __steam://controllerconfig/1057090/2328602400__. 
In-game, I have Sentry mapped to X, Sword on Y and everything else (Bow, Regen, etc) on B, which should hopefully provide enough context to understand my config file.

# Enable Steam Config
To enable Steam Config, open Steam in **Big Picture Mode** (located at the top right of the Steam window). Steam will do a fancy opening thing and drop you at the main menu. Click the **Settings cog** in the top right, then under **Controller,** click **Controller Settings**, which will bring you to the screen below. Tick the box for the type of controller you are using. Make sure the controller is connected to your PC so you can confirm under the *Detected Controllers* heading exactly how Steam recognises your controller - you’ll need to connect it anyway to configure it, so may as well do it now.
*(Note: if you normally use a non-Xbox controller and have other software in use so Windows can recognise it, e.g. a PS4 controller with DS4Windows, Steam will most likely recognise your controller as Xbox 360)*

# Finding the Controller Config Menu
Steam’s controller rebinding features are applied on a per-game basis so that binds you make for one game don’t interfere with gameplay in another. To get to the config menu, you have two options:

• While Steam is in Big Picture Mode, go to **Library** from the main menu. Select the game (Ori WOTW in this case), then in the left side-bar select **Manage Game**, then **Controller Configuration** under Steam Input. You should see a screen similar to this:

• From desktop Steam, selecting Ori WOTW in your sidebar will bring you to the screen below. On the far right of the middle bar, there is an option for **Controller Configuration**, which will open the same screen as above.

From there, the basic config options should be mostly self-explanatory - select a button on the controller and you will be presented with a wealth of options for rebinding buttons to keyboard keys, mouse clicks, other controller buttons, and some specialised actions in the row at the top-right.

# Rebinds for Ori WOTW
In most games, there are a couple of spare buttons not being used on the controller by the vanilla game that makes choosing what buttons to use quite simple. However, a particularly tricky aspect of rebinding controller buttons for Ori WOTW is that this game uses practically all of the buttons available, leaving very little wiggle room for extra bindings. To combat this, we can make use of **Action Sets and Layers**.

## Action Sets
**Action Sets** essentially allow you to swap between two entirely different config files for one game, allowing you to create hundreds of different combinations if you really wanted to. To create a new one, select **ADD ACTION SET** at the top of the config screen:

You can bind a button to swap between them on the fly during gameplay. Choose what button you’d like to use for this action, then select the circled option shown below, then **CHANGE ACTION SET** and the set you’d like to switch to when you press that button.

This is a viable option, however it can get quite confusing trying to remember in the middle of gameplay what Action Set you currently have selected, as there is no indicator for when you change (Steam says there should be a beep but I have never ever heard it), and you have to bind that same button to switch sets in both Action Sets. So instead, we can use **Action Layers**.

## Action Layers
**Action Layers** build on top of your Action Set and will only affect the buttons that you directly edit when you have that Action Layer selected. The key difference with Action Layers is that you can choose to hold a certain button to activate the Action Layer (which I call a **modifier**), and then once you let go of the button, the Action Layer will deactivate until you hold that button again. This is particularly useful for Ori WOTW as it allows you to have two different actions bound to the same button that you simply switch between by holding the modifier, so you always know what rebindings you have active at any time.

Create an Action Layer by selecting **ADD ACTION LAYER** as below:

Select the Action Layer, and the text will appear greyed out. This means that the Action Layer currently will make no changes when activated. From here, you can rebind to your heart’s content. I currently have:
• **RT bound to Dpad Up + X + Y**, which will input a perfect grounded sentry jump. Under *Trigger Analog Output*, select *Analog Off*, as the game seems to read this input as well and will mess up the sentry jump if you have feather. 
• **RB bound to RB + B**, which will input the dash+regen actions for a wavedash, meaning all I have to do is press RB and hold the opposite direction for optimised wavedashes.

You now need to choose a **modifier button** in order to use the Action Layer in-game. In my opinion, the best modifier button for this game is **Left Trigger**. The only purpose it serves in-game is to bring up the ability wheel, which can be worked around by **binding L3 to LT**, so when you want to access the ability wheel you just press in the left analog stick and then rotate it around (it takes a bit of getting used to, but I quickly found it surprisingly comfortable and intuitive). To create this setup:
• Make sure you select an Action Set that you have dedicated for rebinding and that you are not currently editing the Action Layer.
• Select the left joystick box in the bottom left. Under *Click Action*, select LT.
• Go back to the main config menu and select *Left Trigger*. 
• Under *Trigger Analog Output*, select *Analog Off*.
• Select *Full Pull Action*. Select the action in the picture below, then *HOLD ACTION LAYER*, then select the Action Layer with your rebindings.

The modifier button and the replacement for the modifier can of course be adjusted depending on your preference, I just think this is the best combination for this game. 



And that should be it! Now if you go into the game, hold your modifier button and press a button that you have rebound in your Action Layer, you should see the appropriate actions be input, and when you let go of the modifier, you should have your default bindings. It’ll take a bit of getting used to, but it quickly becomes muscle memory and will make executing some tech that can be input on the same frame easier and more consistent.

**What is the easiest/best category to start running?**
The easiest category would probably be any% no Out of Bounds (OoB). There are a lot of (hard) OoB glitches in the normal any% route that make it considerably harder to learn. Alternatively, there is Main Quest Order which does all of the main quest line in the intended order without going OoB. 

**How do I get started?**

**I enabled debug and now i get these weird numbers in the bottom left. What is that and how do I disable it?**
This is something called "Simple FPS" and can be toggled on and off via the debug menu. It should look something like this:

There are two ways to disable this:
The first is by going into the debug menu ( press 8 ), then go to Performance. Look for "simple fps" in the top left of the menu and disable it.
The second option is by adding some startup options to the game. This can be done either directly in steam or via a shortcut. The settings are: "--enableDebug=true --profilingSetting:EnableSimpleFPS=false". 
Do note that you should remove the wispsDebug file in c:\moon for this to work.

How to setup LiveSplit for Ori WotW [1.4.0+]

This tutorial aims to explain how to fully setup LiveSplit for Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

*Disclaimer: I started writting this tutorial during the early stage of the autosplitter, some options might have been added since that tutorial was written. Let me know if anything is missing or unaccurate (My Discord ID is on my profile).*

[section=Introduction]

LiveSplit is a timer program for speedrunners made to help you time your runs and track your progress by allowing you to split your run into individual segments. Some games may have tools called "autosplitters" that will automatically split for you, which is the case for Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Finally it embeds SpeedRunsLive support to allow you to join races and compete with the community members.

All you need is to download LiveSplit [here](https://livesplit.github.io/downloads/) and to go through the installation. Once the installation is done, launch LiveSplit and you will get something like this:

Note that you can skip the sections tagged as "[Advanced]" unless you want to tweak your livesplit in depth, as they are not required to get a liveplit up and running, ready for Ori runs.

[section=Game Time vs Real Time]

Runs are timed using **Real Time without loads** which means that the time spent in the menus counts, but the transitions during which the game loads do not. The autosplitter will take care of everything, all you have to do for now is:
- Right click somewhere on your layout
- Under "Compare Against", make sure that **Game Time** (yes "Game Time") is set

Keep in mind that the **Real Time without loads** will be used in priority but you'll be asked to give the equivalent in **Real Time** during the submission. You can find both in the split editor menu

The timer has to start on file creation and has to stop when you lose the control of Ori, at the end of the "crawl" sequence.

[section=Splits and Layouts]

When you install livesplit, you are using the default splits and the default layout.

**Splits**

To submit a run you do not need to have different splits as the final time is the only time that matters, but having some helps improving because you can see where you gain/lose time over the run more precisely, you get access to your golds splits and, by extension your Sum of Bests. Your gold split is the best time you ever got on a section and your Sum of Bests the addition of all the golds splits, which technically represents the run "if you were playing perfectly". 

By default, you only have one split. We will give that split a name. It can be whatever you want, but we will name it "End" to keep it explicit.

We can now add as many splits as we want, one by one. As an example we will add the “Sentry” split to our layout. To do so, we first need to hit "Insert Above" then give the new split the name “Sentry”.

That way, we can now add a split for Spirit Edge, for Spirit Arc, ... and so on.

**Layouts**

First of all, we will replace the "Splits" component by the "Subsplits" one. Both components do basically the same except from the fact that the "Subsplits" one provides more customization options that we will cover later in the tutorial. Just keep in mind that you don't need to tweak those extra options. If you don't want to, "Subsplits" will behave exactly as regular "Splits". The problem occurs if you were initially using "Splits" and want to have access to those extra options "Subsplits" provides. You will have to switch and you will lose all your settings for that component, so better just use "Subsplits" from the begginning.

TL;DR: the Subsplits component is better than the Splits one

To do so, hit Edit layout… > Layout Settings

For there you need to select "Splits" and then click ont the "-" button, then click on the "+" button, then add the "Subsplits" component under the "List" category. You can now use the arrow buttons to move the "Subsplits" up to where the "Splits" were

We can now start tweaking the layout.

Because the layout and the splits are independent, your layout might not have the right amount of lines. To adjust the number of lines shown on your layout hit Edit layout… > Layout Settings > Splits

Then increment/decrement the "Total Splits" as you like. You might want to update this value everytime you add/remove a split.

LiveSplit offers a lot of customization tools. Just spend some time in the layout settings and build a LiveSplit layout you like.

Now that we changed what we needed to, let’s save our changes. Right-click on the LiveSplit window, then both click Save Splits and Save Layout. LiveSplit will ask you to save 2 files:

• A LiveSplit Split file (.lss)
• A LiveSplit Layout file (.lsl)

I recommend you to think about how you will organize your files already. You will probably need a split file and a layout file for each game, and each category of a game. For example, you can create a folder "WotW" with another one called "Any%" (or whatever category you plan on running) inside it, where you can store your any% split and layout files.

The autosplitter is a LiveSplit tool which splits when a condition based on a game event is filled. The latest versions of LiveSplit embed an autosplitter for Ori and the Will of the Wisps created by **DevilSquirrel**.

To enable the autosplitter, you first need to set the game name (we also set the category name at the same time because why not, but it's not required) you’re running and LiveSplit will detect if there is an autosplitter available for it.

To do so, go to Edit Splits…

• Game Name: Ori and the Will of the Wisps (you can type "wotw" to find it)
• Run Category: Any% (or whatever category you want to run)

Once you have done that, the "Activate" button should not be grayed out anymore and you should be able to click it. Click it, then hit "Settings".

In that window, you can see the "autosplits" that are already configured. Appart from "Start Game" that is configured to start the timer as you chose the difficulty, there should be an autosplit configured for each split in your list. From that point you have to set the right autosplit for each of them.

**Basic Configuration**

This section covers everything you need to have an autosplitter correctly configure, ready for your runs.

Here is the autosplit configuration to use with the splits we're using for the example.

That's it, you are good to go. All you have to do is save your splits and your layout and you're ready to start a run, the autosplitter will automatically start the timer on file creation and will stop it when you lose control of Ori at the end of the run.

Note that there are 2 options:

- **No Pause**: Prevents the game from pausing when it loses focus 

- **Disable Debug**: Makes sure that the debug menu is disabled when the timer is running

 Also, note that the autosplitter provides a way to display the **FPS Count** on your layout
* Add a "Text" component to your layout (under the "Information" tab)
* Under Layout Settings > Text, type "FPS" (the case does not matter) in the first text field, then click "OK"

Installing a Community Patch / Finding your game folder

You can find the latest version of the Community Patch here: https://www.speedrun.com/ori_wotw/resources/lik0d

It has separate folders for patch 2 and 3 of the game, open the one that matches your vanilla game patch (3.1 is the current patch, if you never touched anything you have patch 3.1).

You install the Community Patch by moving the files contained in the matching folder into your game folder, next to your game executable (Might be called oriwotw.exe or oriwotw or oriandthewillofthewisps-pc.exe or something like that).

If you're not sure how to find your game folder:

In your Steam library, right-click Ori and the Will of the Wisps, hover "Manage" and click "Browse local files".

Movement and Tech Guide

This is a general guide for some of the advanced techniques you can use to speed up your movement. Not all of these will be applicable for every category, but you can use this guide as a way to mess around and see what stuff you enjoy!

There’s a lot of movement options in Ori. I’ll split movement into three sections for Important, Optional, and Subtleties. There's also a video here if you just want to go over the important ones:

## Grounded Sentry Jump

* Performed by pressing Sentry and Up Slash on the same frame.
* You can hold other directions during it. For example, you can preemptively hold both Right and Up, then press Sentry and Slash on the same frame.
* You can interrupt your upwards momentum with a Dash, Double Jump, or Down Slash. 
* Every frame off from the same frame will lower your height a little bit.
* The most important trick in the run, learning this is a big deal.

## Aerial Sentry Jump

* Doesn’t go as high as a Grounded Sentry Jump.
* This is never mandatory in the Beginner route, but is mandatory for everything above that.

## Bash Glide

* Performed by letting go of the directions as soon as you Bash.
* This will keep the initial velocity of a Bash until you either press a direction or touch the ground. Feather and Double Jump don’t interrupt it.
* A bit slower than simply spamming Dash, but preferable in situations where Dashing isn’t possible.

* Performed by doing a Slash during a Dash’s cooldown, then interrupting that Slash with another Dash.
* Remember not to alternate the inputs, but rather to group the Slash and Dash input quite close together, then wait, then do it again.

## Dash Jump

* Exactly the same as a Dash Slash, but with a Jump instead.
* Obviously chaining this together will put you into the air, so use this on sloped surfaces.

## Sword Stall

* Up Slash gives you a tiny bit of vertical momentum with a stall, whereas Horizontal Slashes give you only the stall.
* After you use one of these in the air once, you won’t be able to stall again with them. Touching a wall does not refresh this.

* While not strictly necessary, this one is used quite a bit in the run for optimisations.
* Dash into a wall, then hold the opposite direction + Regenerate. The closer you were to the wall when you Dashed, the faster you will go.
* You basically want to do Dash and then immediately press the other inputs. It takes some practice to become consistent.

* At the peak of your jump, Slash, then Double Jump and Slash again. Ori will go higher than normal.
* You want to hold jump for as long as possible for the first Slash, even continuing to hold it after you’ve done the Slash.

## No Sink Swim

* Ori sinks into the water based on their velocity when entering it. By Dashing just above the water, you can simply jump out again.
* You can Double Jump just before touching the water in the Kwolok fight to avoid having to turn around before you Swim Dash out.

## Corner Boost

* Too precise to do consistently on command, but you can go for it on a few walls. (I’ll add an example video here later!)

Sentry Jumps: How-to and How High

[section=Basics]

Sentry is an ability you can purchase from Opher. When you use it, Ori summons a butterfly which attacks nearby enemies a bunch of times before despawning. The act of summoning the Sentry causes Ori to hop lightly into the air.

It turns out you can perform other actions during the Sentry summon, or summon a Sentry during other actions. Using Sentry in combination with an up-attack from the sword (Spirit Edge) or hammer (Spirit Smash) can cause Ori to fly into the air at a high rate of speed. This is called a "sentry jump".

[section=Ground sentry jumps (sword)]

Hold up, then press both Sentry and sword on the same frame for a max height of about 25.5 units. Pressing Sentry and then pressing sword on the next frame also works, but gets a tiny bit less height.

**Technique:** Any method of pressing two things at the same time works. Most people just use two fingers (or one!) to press both keys or controller buttons simultaneously.

**Failure cases:** When practicing, you'll probably achieve max height at least once pretty quickly. After that, it'll be obvious what it looks like when you make a mistake.

Hold up, press Sentry, then press sword exactly 3 frames (0.05 seconds) later for a max height of about 18 units.

**Keyboard technique:** On keyboard, a lot of players do inputs like this by using adjacent keys (for example, K and L) and quickly drumming their fingers in a rhythm. The rhythm will take practice to get consistent.

**Controller technique:** Many runners choose to assign Sentry to X and sword to Y (or vice versa), then quickly slide their thumb across the two buttons. The timing of the thumb slide will take practice to get consistent.

**Failure cases:** If Ori rises by at least a couple units (1 unit = 1 Ori height), it means you were one frame late. If Ori barely rises at all, it either means you were late by more than a frame, or you were *too* fast (which can become common once you learn to hit the 3-frame timing).

[section=Ground sentry jumps (hammer)]

Hold up, press hammer, then press Sentry anywhere from 21-24 frames (0.35-0.40 seconds) later for a height of about 26-27 units. The optimal timing is to Sentry exactly 23 frames after pressing hammer.

**Technique:** After you press hammer, Ori will perform a windup followed by a huge swing of the hammer. The optimal timing to press Sentry is while the hammer is still, immediately before Ori begins swinging.

**Failure cases:** If Ori rises about the same height as a normal hammer up-attack, it means you were too early. If Ori rises more than that, but not as high as a sword sentry jump, it means you were too late.

Hold up, press hammer, then press Sentry anywhere from 16-19 frames (0.27-0.32 seconds) later for a height of about 12-13.5 units. The optimal timing is to Sentry exactly 18 frames after pressing hammer.

**Technique:** Just like on the ground, Ori will perform a windup followed by a huge swing. The optimal timing to press Sentry is while the hammer is still, the instant before Ori begins swinging.

**Failure cases:** Most failures look pretty similar because these don't get a lot of height in the first place. Again, just like on the ground, if you rise a little bit more than a normal hammer up-attack, you were probably too late. Otherwise, you were probably too early.

[section=Data and Gathering Method]

All numbers in this guide were taken from OriWotWManager (https://github.com/ShootMe/LiveSplit.OriWotW/releases). I ran the game at 60 FPS using VSync on a 60 Hz monitor, then used the debug menu to set a timescale of 0.1. Controller macros were created in reWASD (https://rewasd.com/) to test various input timings. When testing air sentry jumps, I controlled for jump height by including a fixed amount of jump time in each macro (4 seconds).

Ground sentry jump (sword) data:

Setting Up Debug and Configuring Practice Saves

Ori & The Will of the Wisps has debug functionality.

To enable this:


(go to your C drive, make a folder called 'moon' if you don't already have one, open that folder, right-click -> new.. -> text document, and then rename it to 'wispsDebug')

* Create a blank text file at <C:\moon\wispsDebug.txt>. Do this by navigating to your C drive and creating a new folder called "moon", if you don't already have one, then in that "moon" folder create a new text document (right click, new, text document) and name it wispsDebug. Leave the contents of that text file blank.

* To use it, press Alpha8 (above qwerty, not the numpad) in-game. This will require a restart if your game is active at the time of creation.

In order to create practice saves, navigate to your Steam game files and the following folder (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Ori and the Will of the Wisps\oriwotw_Data\StreamingAssets\)

then add the following structure:

\Saves\XXX FolderName\YYY SaveName.uberstate

As an example:

\Saves\000 Inkwater\000 FirstPracticeSave.uberstate
\Saves\000 Inkwater\001 SecondPracticeSave.uberstate
\Saves\001 Kwolok\000 KwolokPracticeSave.uberstate

So, for clarity, the full structure topdown starting from the Steam folder would be:

\Steam\steamapps\common\Ori and the Will of the Wisps\oriwotw_Data\StreamingAssets\Saves\XXX FolderName\YYY SaveName.uberstate

To GET the uberstates available in the debug mode, you need to go and create your save as you normally would in-game.

So let's say you wanted to practice the Mora fight in Mouldwood Depths. In-game, you would go and activate the Mora fight checkpoint, then exit to main menu.

Then navigate to c:\users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\Ori and the Will of the Wisps\

Let's say your Mora fight save is currently in save slot 1 in-game.

The in-game save slot 1 will read as "saveFile0.uberstate"

You copy this file to whatever folder you've created for this particular instance, let's say "\000 Mouldwood\" and then rename it to something appropriate like "Mora Fight Start.uberstate"

Next time you load the game, this file will be available to load in the debug menu under "General", fourth column at the bottom, "Load Save" and your various folders and files will be there.

Common use controls include:

* Right stick/shift + middle mouse button to teleport
* space + alpha 7 for scene teleportation 
* g for invulnerability
* backspace to fast forward
* Debug Renderer (General, third column, shows collision and other useful information)


Make sure debug is disabled during runs, either by renaming your "moon" folder slightly to "_moon" or something similar, or by going into the debug menu itself, navigating to the "advanced" tab and turning Debug Controls off, located at the top of the second column.

If your game won't load or stalls after loading, check your controller drivers and/or unplug / replug your controllers.

Show FPS on screen using steam

On steam shop, go to Steam -> Settings. Then In-Game and In-Game fps counter. You will need to restart your game if it was open.

Be careful, if you record with game capture, the counter might not show up on screen. Window capture usually works.
