Bobbykaze will sadly be leaving us.
For the time when he was active, barely anyone else could match his wisdom.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans, and he just couldn’t get to do anything with us and Klonoa anymore.
Thank you for your time with us. Our moments were rare, but very enjoyable.
Following with this, I added NeilLegend as a game moderator.
You were waiting for it, here it is. The KPRS anything goes person. Do I need to say anything ?
Activity : check. Skill : check. Glitch hunter : check. Helping new players : check. Interest in the leaderboard rules and moderation : check. What more did you want again ?
We didn’t consider him to be part of the staff for the longest time for a variety of reasons, some being more reasonable than others. It’s only now that we thought otherwise. No conspiracy theory I promise.
And as you can read, Neil won’t just be a verifier, but the grade above that, a green-sword moderator.
Of course, he isn’t a veteran reviewer yet, and he’ll have plenty of stuff to learn about how leaderboards are made on src (as well as the various things this status allows you to do).
But that’s why you give a chance to the people you think are worthy for the position, so that you know, they have the opportunity to fiddle with the stuff in the first place. And he definitely is.
NeilLegend : Door to the good vibes.
After nearly three weeks of discussion, here it is, along with three new categories : https://www.speedrun.com/klonoaprsce (You can quickly access it from the "leaderboard" tab).
Have fun, and as always, make sure to point out issues or bugs.
Kumohachi has become a verifier for KPRS.
L’sV activity has risen by quite a bit this the last couple months. There are four people who can review runs of this game. Two of them, me and amoser, have never really ran it and are there to give hands with submissions. The remaining two are, of course, Neko and Takuto. But even then, the former usually find themselves busy, and so Takuto is mostly alone as a runner-reviewer.
In order to further reduce potential staff stress, but also to further increase the runner-reviewer ratio of the staff of KPRS, I looked forward to adding someone else.
And for that, please welcome Kumohachi. Yet another uncommon and discreet name, you might say, but don’t let that fool you. He’s a L’sV player of his own league, current speedrunning king of the original installment. As expected, the remaster didn’t challenge that, as proven by his any% IGT Abuse support run, an incredible performance. Unsurprisingly, he’s a moderator for the original. And because this remaster only differs by the bullet physics, he is well within his field of expertise.
A very welcome addition. With him, the staff should mostly be in stable position for the foreseeable future.
roku_ was a verifier of the DtP side of KPRS, and has recently made the decision to cease moderation activity, after coming to find such duties weren’t in his taste. Which is learning of the self. For the brief time he was there with us, he helped us verify submissions. And I must say that it is commendable that he accepted, and fared very well, despite knowingly not having the best of times with English. Which, the same can be said for the other English non-fluent staff members.
So, let’s thank him for his time, wish him more freedom, as well as more playing time for his fingers.
In the meantime, I set myself in search of a new reviewer, as we were still kind of running short on hands who could help with the incessantly pouring submission stream.
And I truly never expected things to turn out this way, and for me to be writing this name. But I’m very happy to say that ShadowKnight28, agreed to help. Much like some other reviewers, he usually doesn’t talk much. But you probably recognise him, he’s a clear household name for the easy and normal branches of any% standard, that he promptly dominates. Until he learns about L’sV, this will be his reviewing field. As a high profile player with a good time resume, our common knowledge would let us infer that he’s also quite adept with the moderation side of speedrunning. Well, we have the honor of standing as his introduction to the field, not any less.
Whether he respectfully follows a similar course as roku_, or find fulfillment in this line of work, or anything else in-between, I look forward to what the future holds.
New main category alongside any% and 100% you can play right now, either for full-game speedruns, or individual levels !
The concept is simple. While going through the game, you collect the phantomilians/doll pieces, unlock the extra stages and play through them as well ! This is a way to get to play some of the often abandoned parts of the stages, along with a fun speedrun of the extra stages, and that without the pain that those pointless gems and cruel mirror-fairies are known to cause.
More information about how that came to be in the forum thread “about developing the leaderboard”, page 6. If you also spot mistakes with any of these changes, please make them known.
It was a category that was bound to be born at some point, and now it’s real. So, have fun. And good routing too. Don’t forget collectibles remain with you even after a respawn. Yea it makes no sense and is completely unlike the older releases but then it’s KPRS. That game where having Klonoa wear clothes, saves time. And this is enough said.
Takuto has been promoted as a KPRS verifier !
In a similar logic as for roku_’s recent promotion, I was in search of a runner of the game who could help with run moderation. This time however, it was centered about the sequel, Lunatea’s Veil. It only had Neko as an actual runner, which was far too little to my liking.
Problem is, there aren’t that many runners of the game in general around, let alone regular ones, let it be the original or remaster. So to find someone potentially viable for this amidst the small playerbase, was nowhere guaranteed.
Fortunately, the luck went in our favor, as we have Takuto. He may not be a name that rings a bell for a lot of you, as he doesn’t talk too much often (which can be expected from a non English fluent user) but he actually started playing since at least a month after game release, and has more or less stuck around ever since. Pulling off stronger and stronger times on L’sV normal standard, worthy of being comparable to that of top runs of the original PS2 game. And occasionally seen posting strategy videos in the server.
This may be a nice speedrunning opportunity for him, as well as a very much appreciated addition for us, so without further ado, let’s welcome him aboard.
(Blunt copy of my discord post. I believe I should have posted this in here first)
After some deliberation, Harutomo is leaving the staff team of KPRS as a supermod. He was of a big help during the times of the conception of the KPRS leaderboard. We can cite :
- Haru helped us build the graphical aspect of the board.
- He reviewed a couple runs for us
- He participated in the discussion about designing the board
- He organized two KPRS races which was very welcome.
But unfortunately, after this small era of activity, he moved away from KPRS entirely, such that we would almost never hear of him in four months. His current and main Twitch streaming activity is a main reason in why. With these circumstances in mind, he felt that stepping down was a fair thought. That, and the joy of being free from responsibilities and returning as a player again.
Of course, Haru is still a DtP supermod, and will rightfully remain so until he decides to step down, or if he leaves the speedrunning community entirely. But even outside that, he shall not be forgotten for the very small, but appreciated period of time where he helped stimulate the community.
[Edit 18 january 2023 : this news post type will be discontinued after becoming largely disatisfied with its core approach. Read this with a grain of salt.]
This category has seen its first ever sub 30 minutes IGT run !!! Pulled off by none other than roku_, and verified today, the run looks virtually perfect.
Ever since the 32 min mark had been breached nearly a month after the game's release, it was a possibility. And although periodical progress was made, through the shape of ever so slightly greater runs, it still was up to anyone's guess if the game allowed enough time to be saved for that goal to truly be realistic. It is hard to believe, but it's now done. Not only that, but 12 seconds of spare. Truly astounding.
While roku_ did his thing, Adachi, another top player, was slowly and quietly working hiw way up. He surprised everyone by choking two WR attempts, and then finally getting redemption with a two seconds improvement run, a 30:10. Although roku_ ended up taking it back, and that Adachi did not end up getting the sub first (possibly so because he moved away from the grind onto something else), in the end, we all know he has such ability. And you can say what you want, but it would be awesome to see another sub 30 min run happen, especially that soon after the first one. So, let's cheer him on ! If he's interested of course.
roku_ has been promoted as a KPRS verifier !
The staff of KPRS is currently sufficient for the needs of this leaderboard, so there is no problem there. However, three out of five of the moderators don't really play the game (like me !), and were summoned to help with the onslaught of submissions back in the early days of the board's existence.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, but I am nevertheless concerned with giving more room to the actual players. After consideration of the candidates (truthfully they could all be a part of the team, this selection depended on other factors), this is the player I ended up choosing. For the time being, this will do. But we could definitely see more coming in the close future.
This post is definitely a bit rushed, I apologize in advance. I just wanted to quickly report on this awesome piece of news.
Back when the leaderboard opened its doors on the 30th of last month, we were greeted with over 70 pending submissions.
Thanks to 4 dedicated and organized moderators... we were able to clear through them... and over fifty more... in 25 days ! And most fully watched !
Over 130 runs verified ! 70+ full-game runs and 50 ILs ! Wow. That is completely unheard of. I've never seen that counter rise over ten in my two years of moderation. That sure was a challenge of time of patience. I personally wasn't exactly sure if we would be able to make it. But the number quickly depleted in a couple days. I gotta thank the game for releasing at a period where I had a relative leisure of time. I think things would have been different without that.
I notice that there hasn't been normal stage ILs as of yet, only timed extras. Please don't hesitate to try them, there's a lot to be done ! If you're really not sure about timing them, we moderators may do this job, as long as you submit a run. Even full-game runs can work ! But it's try that you want to prioritize IL strategies.
DtP almost has a run for every difficulty. Cool ! L'sV is yet to be explored with support speedruns, and much other different speedrun types. It's obviously the least ran game out of the two, despite the accessibility. Most likely because it's a much longer game.
Pause Abuse hasn't received much activity as of late, the only runs that exist were made pretty early on.
But yea ! Time to relax ! The board and runs are now fully up to date !
