Hi all, first post. I don't really know how this site works so forgive me if I'm answering questions with obvious answers.
I've been looking around at various runs, mostly on YouTube, and I notice that (at least when the game came out) death abuse was a big part of every run I saw. But I'm not really interested in running a category full of death abuse, it seems tedious.
I'm wondering how to propose a new category. If I could participate in a "100% deathless" category, I might actually chart out a run and get something for that category submitted.
Where do I propose a new category, and would I need to submit a video along with my proposal?
Hey, Lava! Glad to see you around these parts.
Fwiw, there are only two death abuses in the entire Any% run. Iirc, there are less in 100%. If you really are set on playing the game deathless, I think dresdun was setting up something similar a couple of months ago. I think he was working on “damage-less”?
The forums are a good start for this kind of topic, but I’d suggest fleshing this out and getting real answers (such as when can you make this category a reality) in the Discord. Things will happen much quicker and there will be better communication. The Discord is located in the resources tab of this srcom page.
Happy running!
Thanks for the quick reply. I've just checked out your any% Yamato run and yes, I'm now thinking that it's not so bad and a deathless run wouldn't look much different. I must have seen early runs with less sophisticated routing maybe? Or maybe it just looked bigger in my head because there's a death abuse early on. A no damage would be interesting, and would probably have a bigger impact on routing than a deathless run.
I am going to sit down with the game this weekend and see how I do.
In early runs there were a lot more death abuse than now days, picking up the secret items was a big change. I also don't think a no damage run would be all that much thanks to the reset rate and the slowed down pace since there are some nasty spawns all around the place, especially in the later levels.
