01.1 Getting the game

In order to get openGOAL you will need to download the openGOAL launcher from:

After that you can follow this guide below to install openGOAL so you can start runs!

Please do NOT link to any game assets or copyrighted files.

01.2 Differences from Console

Early cutscene audio that is used to skip cutscenes in the original version does NOT work on openGOAL

Fish RNG manipulation does NOT work on openGOAL

BridgeBlast does NOT work on updated versions of openGOAL


Any other skip or trick that works on console can be assumed to work exactly as it does on original hardware.

# Infinite pause buffer  0.1.25 - 0.1.30

A change to the HUD related code accident had an oversight allowing you to keep the HUD up forever and infinitely be in a pause buffer state. This was introduced with this [pull request](https://github.com/open-goal/jak-project/pull/1756) and first appeared in version 0.1.25 of the game. It was fixed in this [pull request](https://github.com/open-goal/jak-project/pull/1900) and was fixed in versions 0.1.30 and later.

# NaN Bones 0.1.35

A cleanup to some functions accidently forgot to include a fix so a bug appeared allowing you to talk to NPCs from very weird locations. This was introduced in this [pull request](https://github.com/open-goal/jak-project/pull/2457) and first appeared in the versions 0.1.35 of the game. It was then fixed in this [pull request ](https://github.com/open-goal/jak-project/pull/2642) and was fixed in versions 0.1.36 and later. https://youtu.be/ZlvMdG8SHeU


# More Eco

In version 0.1.42, a bug made eco give more than intended under certain circumstances. **Runs of this version are NOT accepted.**

01.4 How to start a Run

In order to start a run you MUST be using a Vanilla copy of OpenGOAL and you MUST enable the Speedrun mode found under Options -> Game options -> Miscellaneous -> Speedrunner mode.

This will automatically skip the opening cutscene when starting a new game.

01.5 What is "Speedrun mode"?

Speedrun mode is an option added to vanilla OpenGOAL that automatically skips the intro Cutscene when starting a new game, it also disables any gameplay altering settings such as high FPS and all actors to ensure that all runs on the boards have the same core gameplay with no modifications.

You can enable Speedrun mode by selecting it in the title screen and it MUST be enabled to submit a run. You can find it under Options -> Game options -> miscellaneous -> Speedrun mode

This also allows you to open a Fast restart menu by holding L1 + R1 + X + Square then pressing start OR select.
