Gran Turismo 3 Any% Route (PAL Only)
Updated 3 years ago by TheJayJay

This is the route I used for my GT3 Any% run which includes skipping as many races in the championships as possible. I did not get all the skips in my run and later discovered that 2 more were possible so I will add those here.

Before starting, there's a couple of things you need to be aware of:

  1. If there is a tie in points for 1st place in the championships, the game will always favour the CPU opponents. So if you get 30 points but another driver gets 30 points, too bad you have to redo the entire championship. The way the game gives out points is that 1st place gets 10 points, 2nd place gets 6 points, 3rd gets 4 points and so on. Almost every championship in the beginner league is 5 races so we can at most skip 2 races, but it just so happens that 6 points * 5 = 30. Because of both of these factors it's not always possible to get every skip in the run.

  2. One cool mechanic that we can take advantage of is that if we drive into 1st place and then skip the race, the game will not assign 10 points to anyone, instead it'll give the points to 2nd-6th place but just give you 0 points. In almost every case when we want to skip a race, we will drive in front.

  3. This route is specific to PAL only because for some reason on PAL the Acura RSX Type-S can be sold for 75,000 credits, but on NTSC it can be sold for only 7,500 credits. If you want to follow this exact route for NTSC you have to Gold all the A-Licenses to win a car that can be sold for 75,000 credits, but in that case you'd do the route differently anyway.

Finally, in this guide you'll occasionally see me put a number in brackets next to the track names, all this means is what number the race is in the championship. So if the track is first in the championship I would put a (1) next to it.

OK with all that in mind here's the route, timing starts when we press 'X' on Gran Turismo Mode and ends when we cross the finish line of the final race:

Licenses

The only licenses we need to complete for this run are B and A. These are actually fairly easy as you are given a racing line to follow and most of the bronze times are quite forgiving. The ones that you might struggle with are B-6, A-2, A-4 A-7 and A-8, at least those are the ones I usually had problems with.

You don't have to earn gold in all of them, in fact this route specifically works so that you don't get all gold (getting all gold would be a different route altogether and while it would be a lot faster it would also be more difficult).

Mazda MX-5

After finishing the licenses, we're ready to move onto the actual run itself.

Japan > Mazda > Mazda MX-5.

Sunday Cup

After winning the cup, sell the won SPRINTER TRUENO.

80's Sports Car Cup

Spider & Roadster

The 2nd race in this cup is on Test Course and unfortunately with our current car we have a small problem. If we go up against the SLK 230 Kompressor, it will catch up and overtake us if we just hold down accelerate because we'll hit our maximum top speed and then stall the car over and over. It is possible to beat the SLK if you let go of acceleration before you reach 128km/h for a split second and then accelerate again over and over (see this run to see what I mean, starts at 47:09 https://www.speedrun.com/gt3/run/wzppr7vz). While doing this though you also have to drive directly in front of the SLK and block its path to make sure it does not overtake you, while it is possible to beat the SLK this way it's quite hard to do. What you can do instead though is reset the race over and over until the SLK does not appear in the line-up. It usually takes 3 resets on average, but it may take more and you lose about 15-20 seconds per reset (less time if you're running HDD) so it's up to you whether or not you want to risk it.

Clubman Cup FR Challenge Stars & Stripes Race of NA Sports GT World Championship

OK, this is the big one. First of all if you see the APEX, reset the championship because it WILL cause you problems. There are 4 possible races to skip here and they are Tokyo (1), Seattle (6) SSR11 (7) and Grand Valley (10). Getting all 4 skips is the least-likely thing to happen in the run due to the fact that you will only have 60 points. In my run I had to go up against the Focus Rally Car which always started the line-up in 1st place and that also caused me problems, so it might be worth resetting on that car too but I haven't tested it extensively enough yet. If you see the Xsara Rally Car I'm fairly certain in almost every case you will be able to get all 4 skips, but if in doubt don't skip Seattle. You have to skip SSR11 as it's the longest track and you have to skip Grand Valley as it's 3 laps.

As it's the hardest championship in the run and the most RNG-reliant one, you can choose to do it first as soon as you get the Viper instead.
