Over the past few weeks, the moderation team has been hard at work with perfecting the boards of DLD. Here is a list of the important changes we have made to the boards.
Major Changes
- Allowing modifications: Several modifications have been officially allowed to use in runs. They all use the DLD modder "Gimloader" and can be found in the Resources page (the TAS modification isn't allowed, of course). A guide to installing them into Gimkit can be found HERE. What these modifications do is desync the Gim from where the server thinks it is, allowing you to do things such as play back your inputs or teleport to summits.
- Release Physics is runnable again: The Creative Platforming Patch mod has been changed to allow you to run Release Physics as well! This resource can be found HERE.
- Pre-boosts Ban: Pre-boosts have been banned from Current Patch Level runs, due to a lack of time save.
- Major re-timing change: ALL full game and level runs (except tutorial) now have the ending frame of the first frame of the edge of the last eye crossed the bumpiest/outermost part of the end platform of the suummort floor or climb complete floor. The starting frame has remained the same. All existing full game runs and current patch level runs have already been re-timed with this method, however some Creative Platforming Patch and Release Physics level runs are still in the process of being re-timed.
- Mods Annotation: The "Mods" annotation has been created to display if your run was modded or not, and if it was modded then displaying whether you used a mod that desynced the Gim or not.
- Modded Board: A modification board for this game has been created, which allows you to jump higher/move faster/fall faster, etc. It can be found HERE.
- Banned Gims: Several Gims have been banned from the game to use, due to the accuracy required for re-timing being based on the eyes of the Gim. The globally banned Gims are Day One, Chompz, Tropicool, Josh, Raveena, Bonesy, Flurry, Libre, Gimbit (Green), Gimbit (Purple), Gimbit (Red), and Gimbit (Cyan). Captain Buck is banned in Full game runs and Summit 1: Emberwall Ascent.
- Category Extentions: Some subcategories/subcategory values have been deleted/created due to release physics being playable again.
Minor Changes
- Category Names: Names of categories in Category Extensions have been modified.
- Subcategory Value Name Change: "Knockback Patch" has been renamed to "Current Patch" to limit confusion.
- Rebrand: The first-fourth place icons have been replaced with icons of a single terrain block of each Summit Floor.
Moderation Team Changes
- ggnewoo has finally been removed as a Super Moderator!
- ImmortalWarrior0 and I have been made as a Super Moderator.
If you have any questions about reasoning for changes, ask moderators.
You may have noticed that miscellaneous categories from this game have been removed. All of these categories have been made on the Category Extensions page. All runs (including obsolete ones) from these categories have been submitted on the runners behalf by me. The date, description, and all other annotations have been preserved in this process.
Because of this more organized and separated nature of categories, we are no longer held back (as much) with how necessary the categories are, and we’re generally more flexible regarding additions of new categories.
Here are the new categories we have added:
- Summits 1-3
- Summits 3-6
- Lobby
- Laserless Summit 6: One Way Up
- Backwards
We may be open to more categories in the future, which you can request in the Category Request Forum found in the Category Extensions.
You can access these new boards by pressing the Category Extensions button at the top of this page.
You probably have already noticed that the Don't Look Down leaderboards seem to have reset once again. This is due to a new gamemode having to be released, which has a feature that increases gim speed. The creator of the game explained that speed boosts were messing with this gamemode and making gims go way too fast, so unfortunately he had to remove them entirely due to all platformer physics being linked across gamemodes. Fortunately, Gimkit modder; TheLazySquid, who had recently created a mod that allowed tool-assisted speedruns for Don't Look Down to be created, managed to create a mod that returned speed boosts, and the previous physics in general. This mod will be allowed to be used in runs as a sort of "Downpatcher" for any people who would prefer to speedrun with speed boosts. I have created a step-by-step guide on how to install it in the resources section if anyone is interested. That is all.
You probably have noticed that the Any%, IL, and a few other categories' leaderboards have been reset. This is due to an accidental physics change caused by the release of platforming to Gimkit Creative. The creator has confirmed that the change is not reversible. This physics change caused speed boosts to be nerfed. This nerf caused most speed boosts to be slightly less powerful and a noticeable amount more difficult to maintain, and even made some speed boosts impossible to get in general. It is for this reason that we decided to separate the runs before the change and after the change into different variables/categories. Categories where speed boosts do not effect the time of the run, or just aren't allowed like Intended, Minimum Double Jumps, and No Speed Boosts have not had their runs separated into 2 different categories.
We have decided to completely remove the "Glitchless%" category.
All runs from the category have been moved to Any%.
The reason this category was first made was from a glitch/setup that spawned you to a place after the tutorial segment of the map. Since runs that did this were getting rejected, the category was made for runs that didn't use this.
Eventually, runs started starting when you reached summit 1, due to this "glitch."
Glitchless runs started when you reached the first flag.
As runs became more advanced, we learned a crucial tactic called speed boosts or corner boosts. We decided that they are not a glitch.
It seemed that the only point of the glitchless category was to make you have a more difficult time getting a speed boost into your run, and the category is completely useless, and aged very poorly.
Catagories that started when the game loads in now start when the gim's eyes are in the middle of the first green flag.
It came to my attention that where you spawn at the beggining is completely RNG. This is even more important for categories/levels such as Tutorial, since there are multiple runs with the same amount of seconds and timing is even more exact.
This means that in tutorial%, you will now be able to answer questions before the run starts. I think this is good since answering questions does not define DLD speedrunning, rather it defines something like Gimkit Classic.
Runs that start at summit 1 or other places will not change their starting frame.
Thanks to @Pointlessyeet for telling me this. I have retimed every run that this applies to.
Because of me and @youraveragehorse becoming moderators, the rules have become more formal and runs will be getting verified much quicker.
We apolagize for taking a bit of a break from verifying runs, and we will be much more active from now on.
In addition to the rules being cleared up in every category, we have also added a new catagory named "Summit 6 Laserless." You can read the rules on that category if you are interested in speedrunning it.
The retiming rules have also changed for any% and glitchless%, regarding when the run starts. On any%, the run now starts on the frame that the gim is in the middle of the text. Additionally, glitchless% now starts on the frame that the game loads in from the loading screen.
We have verified/denied the two pages of pending runs, and we hope to be much more active so nothing like that happens again.
The link for this page is now "Gimkit_DLD" for ease of access.
You don't have to submit runs on PC if you are playing on mobile any more!
Happy New Years Eve!
Immortal~
Recently, individual summits have been added as a option to run. Since speedrunning individual summits is so much shorter, the difference between the first place and second place time is a lot less than the regular Any% and Glitchless% categories. Eventually each run might both be on the same second. So for individual summit speedruns milliseconds will be added. For now this will not affect Full Game categories (unless something similar happens).
