Kinda catching up on this game. Do you guys have a discord?
Legend: in the TAS we're clipping through the right wall at the very start of 2-1 and cut a tiny corner, and turns out you need to be facing away from that diagonal wall to really get into it, while also diving down. Optionally hold the direction towards that wall at some point maybe.
In this particular place tho, I was able to dive-clip through that diagonal white wall while the fan was still on, and I clipped sooner maybe because I double-jumped for height before that, but I needed a damage boost while inside the wall so that I could double-jump again and fly far to the right, otherwise I just fall back in-bounds. So I had to disable the fan because it creates a damage box for it, I clip, get hit, hit C to regain control and fly right a little bit, then I get hit again and hit C again to really fly to the right. Dive in the end obviously. As you can see, floors are sticking right a bit, so I need to be even farther right.
Legend 2: was just watching Cypherin's guide and he mentioned he clipped through the entire level somehow. I had no idea where but this looks like the only useful place?
DAMN, THAT'S SOME GOOD OPTIMIZATION!
Actually this skip in doable on runs, but in order to do it we would need the pillar a little bit to the left so we mess around with the camera/goliath position to dive down, but the way you've shown it cuts the entire process of doing the setup (You can check either mine or treyvz runs for more info).
How long you've been studying the game, bud?
OOOOH you're the one who were working with Archanfel!!
I talked with him years ago to see if he had some notes regarding this TAS since we were trying to optimize the game for the sub 12/low 11 attempts, but he didn't have it. It's great to see you around!
So on 1-3 it's possible to pass through the ground by air diving on that edge? Seems very doable!
Hi feos and Shime,
Awesome video here! To describe the clip I did if looking at your video, it was on the first ledge you ran off in the beginning of the room, where you shoulder charge->rolled past the enemy, then fell off the ledge. I air dived and clipped through the corner and fell down through the middle of the stage. My mind was blown when it happened, but I've never been able to reproduce it. I think your clip is way better and the way to go to optimize this section further.
Also to a question of yours feos, no we don't have a discord for Gargoyles, as the number of active runners has gone up and down over the years. Was hoping the Remaster would revive speedruns, but people get intimidated when they play it.
We could dedicate a channel in the SegaCrew discord for Gargoyles though. We've done that for other games that don't have many runners, such as The Adventures of Batman and Robin and X-Men 2: Clone Wars.
I see. There's no rush, just wondered if there's already a place to ask people which weird glitches they saw in this game (ideally with a video) that could end up being useful for my TAS, and just like the above maybe even RTA. I happen to have the tools to try to replicate those potential glitches and even figure out their reason. Maybe a special forum thread for that would be enough.
tl;dr: are there any cool speed techs that are not in the current WR runs?
I have to rewatch the current WR run, as it's been a long time since I seen it. That said, I think there's potential skips on the city stage and on the forge that I think no one does, but I've tried to show in some videos.
The city stage, in the 2nd area, I think there's two places to manipulate a flyer to shoot you so that you damage boost to a higher area. The first one right at the beginning of the stage I feel is an absolute run killer, but I still wonder if there's a time save there. The second one is after you climb the long vertical wall and get ready to jump to grapple points heading left - I think you can take a damage boost off the flying drone shot and get to the top of the building.
On the forge, in the area after the vertical "fire wall skip" and you're heading left (the room where you normally ride a platform left and watch out for furnaces), I think you can save time using the ceiling here and damage boosting off the furnaces to make it to the middle enemy platform.
Hopefully what I typed up above makes sense? Apologies for replying so late, but I'll see if I can dig up a vod for both of these.
Thanks! Right, the city skip is already in the TAS, and the forge room uses similar RNG manip to get damage from the "ovens" like you tried in the tutorial IIRC.
Hello all,
Hope all Gargoyles current/non-current/new runners are doing well. Writing a quick news item here just to point to a forum post regarding two leaderboard setting updates:
- time in milliseconds
- allowing comments from runners w
