Over the next week or so, I'm going to shoot for a sub 3 hour any% and a sub 4 hour 100%, as I'm derusting for playing this game a few marathons.
Something that occurred to me as I was playing through it the past week or so is that this game can definitely be beaten with the original armor and sword you get at the beginning of the game. It'd be a slog, but it'd be totally possible. Other contemporary NES/GB rpgs have a low% category, and I think it'd be cool to have it here.
Thoughts?
Perfect. I will get back to you with that info, as I'm going to start running the any% category today. When I start routing the 100% path, I will let you know.
Thanks SO MUCH for your flexibility and help with this. You're wonderful.
Thanks, dude! And that is totally fair. No RNG manipulation to me would be no resets, no save and quits, etc., like jiseed did, but you definitely have a valid point that you can't really tell the difference between the manipulations/non-manips besides the obvious resets.
100%, however, should definitely be a category. In the any%, you only get four (or five, optionally) of the 11 or 12 allies, you don't do ANY of the side quests, and you don't collect all of the items. So, to me, 100% would be: gain all allies (which means defeat all bosses) and complete all side quests at the very least. I'd expect a run of this to take 5-6 hours with good enemy luck.
Thank you for responding and for your thoughts. any% should stay alone; you're right, and I didn't think about it that way.
Do you have any thoughts on this, @Toad22484? Or should I wait until I have a run completed to ask for this? Let me know either way! :)
Hello!
I have routed (and will be running throughout the next week) a few different versions of this game. Namely the following categories, thinking they would be useful:
-any% no RNG manipulation -any% -100% (with or without RNG manip)
Do these sound good? Appropriate? Let me know, because I'm going to start with the any% one (without RNG manipulation), and would love to add those to the categories. Let me know if this is not feasible!
To answer a previous question, YES, Kirby's Dream Land has a decent amount of RNG, especially in the boss fights. It can actually kill a run if you get a bad Kracko, or Wispy, etc.
Poppy can choose to add 15 seconds to your run by delaying a jump before throwing its last bomb. It's frustrating.
But also awesome. :)
This sounds so cool. I can't wait to see what games are selected!
I'm a regular OBS kind guy myself. I mostly run emulators, too, but I like having other chat options pulled up in the browser just to have maximum control over the stream. SLOBS is nice, but the regular OBS is where it's at.
That's awesome! Definitely inspired me to ask the community if I'm really stuck on a run. :)
Harvest Moon is a great idea.
Shovel Knight sounds like high stress if you wanna get a really good time. There are people that pour hours into that game! ...but I definitely would recommend something in the farming category like Harvest Moon. That's smart. What about schmups?
It's easy to create a YouTube channel! Just upload the video and submit the link once it's uploaded.
It really is a very hard game. The GB version of it is equally insane. I haven't dared...
You've described a lot of Game Boy games there, honestly. Do you like puzzle games? Word puzzle games? Or RPGs?
You like Shadow, clearly, as you've run that a few times. But what other games do you like?
Platformers are easy to learn, but difficult to master.
Why not try something simple like Kirby's Dream Land for GB? It can be learned really quickly!
I have runs here to be verified, and I appreciate very much being added as a verifier, but I can't actually verify my own runs if I'm not a moderator. Would someone either verify/reject my runs or let me verify them?
Thank you!
Awesome, thanks! I just added some rules, and I might add some categories if that's okay.
The competition really heated up a bit on this one. Now I'm gonna have to run it again. :)
