Hello everyone!
We have been thinking about changing up the categories quite a lot recently, and I think now is the time to propose some changes. However, we do want to ask the community first.
The main questions are:
- Which categories would you like to see on the main Leaderboard?
- Which categories would you like to see in the Extensions?
- Should Category Extensions runs also need verification?
- Should we add NMG subcategories to glitched ones, such as Fresh File or Any%?
Please fill out this form ( https://forms.gle/5nt23vk9QPqF1eZ47 ) to let us know what you think, and of course do not hesitate to reply in this thread as well!
I believe that Multistat should be banned altogether (again).
While the original ban happened because it wasn't known how to reproduce it without additional tools, the real problem to me is that it's removing the last bit of skill ceiling a top speedrun would have in an already fairly easy category.
If you use Multistat in an example Fresh File run, you will end up with enough scrolls to finish the game by the time you leave Stilt Village, even if you completely miss them in Promenade and Ramparts. In my opinion the tradeoff should matter. Should you check Ramparts for one or two more scrolls? Should you actually pick up every power scroll on an RTA run (1.71)? Both of those examples won't exist anymore with Multistat, and it would guarantee a win no matter which seed or biome layout you get.
The other thing is hardware limitation. Different platforms won't be able to do this glitch, creating an unfair advantage for PC on leaderboards. And if console runners were to look at leaderboards and the explanation for Multistat, they'd think there is no point in running the game at all, since eventually all of the top times won't be beatable due to the insane timesave at bosses it provides.
For 5BC runs it's only going to be useful in the final fight, but the other glitch used there stunlocks the boss anyways, so in this specific case I advocate for consistency with already submitted times, because Multistat would just make that specific thing faster, and it's not worthy of a record just because you take a third of the button mashes for the same result.
