To put it simply: Categories get added once there are actually people playing said category.

To explain it further: We have a category request system in the Discord. There exists the so called category forum and the respective category request thread. If you have done a run, show it off in the request thread with the appropriate format (see pinned messages). If it catches on and enough players show support for the category it may get added to the boards.

Heya everyone!

Egg Shuttle - Max Score% has received enough requests in the Discord. The category is now live on speedrun.com. For now we will list "Max Score%" as a Misc category and depending on how popular it gets, that decision may be revisited.

This will be the rule set:

• Complete all 45 stages in the Egg Shuttle challenge mode in 1 sitting.
• The Total Score must be 99.999.999/maxed out.
• Use the In-Game Time provided by the game after you finish Egg Shuttle.
• Only fill out the In-Game Time column on your submission. Please leave the Time column empty.
• No extensive or frequent pausing. This will be judged on a case by case basis, mods may either make a note or reject entirely if you pause too much. This is a single segment category, do treat it as such despite the timing method.
• Please list your framerate cap of either 30, 60 or 144 fps in your submission. Due to the game's performance issues, occasional lag is fine, but do make sure you pick a framerate cap that your PC can handle mostly consistently.

Small adjustment on the emulator rules:

“Skip EFB Access from CPU” must be disabled. (Graphics → Hacks).

This setting used to be unchecked by default, however recent Dolphin releases have changed that. The rule just got moved down a bit to the paragraph players have to actively change settings.

The above announcements faq has another sentence added, explaining on where "Emulate Disc Speed" can be found.

This setting can be found by right clicking the game on your games list.

Hi, update on this: If you want this category to exist, please do the following:

1. Do a run of both Sonic (2024 only) + Shadow Generations and record it fully, as you would on a normal submission
2. Join the SxS Generations Speedrunning Discord and submit your run to the category request-thread in the category forum.
3. Please use the appropriate format in the request; basically read the pinned message.

If we have enough runs of multiple people, we will create this category on the Multiple Sonic Games-Board.

There are multiple plattforms you can perform this trick. So depending on which one you mean, the stick angle changes. Basically do this:

• Jump off the side of the plattform and try to stomp immediatly after clearing the railing.
• Hold the direction on your stick that you´re trying to jump to until you re flying.

Anything after that depends on which plattform you chose to do this from, which i can not help you with right now

I assume you mean the Chaos Controll duplication glitch? Yes that is still possible. Just hold the chaos controll button and release when it ends

I´ve been moderating for a while now and i have encountered numerous bottlenecks on this site. Some are smaller, some bigger. One that I believe many moderators understand though is not being able to enable certain timing methods for specific categories.

For example, our Sonic Colors IL Leaderboard only needs IGT to be filled in. We tell runners that in the rules too, but people do not read rules. Thats just how it is really, not only for IL´s but full game runs too. I cannot tell you how many run submissions others and I had to edit (across all games) because people fill in the wrong column; I never liked to reject submissions that had that issue as the boards would be a lot emptier. It is a small QoL change, that would save soooo much time in the long run, over us not having to edit every 3rd submission.

I wonder if this has been brought up before as site feedback, surely others have had that thought before? Is that something SRC has on it´s list to add for the future? Should I create a ticket for it?

We don´t have a answer to that, because we´re not modders of this game. In theory it shouldn´t since Sonic & Shadow Generations are 2 completely different games. Just to be on the safe side we recommend turning everything off. Mods will not be allowed for now.

As mentioned in the latest news post:

"Main categories however maintain closed until embargo is fully lifted. Reminder that embargo will be lifted 2 weeks after the official release, that is November 8th. We urge you to join and take part in discussions about main category rulesets in the ⁠category-forum on the speedrunning Discord!"

Game rule #1 states: "The original game and all its contents must be preserved and unmodified."

That does not mean we´ll never allow any mods, especially QoL stuff can be usefull in some cases, but for now mods are not allowed.

There will not be a category on either of the 2 boards, that is Sonic Generations(2024) and Shadow Generations. If enough people pick up a category that would include playing both Sonic & Shadow Generations in one sitting, then it would most likely appear in the Multiple Sonic Games-Board.

Currently I ve set up the IL Board, so that it shows all levels,bosses and challenges in one category.

If you click on a level, there will be subcategories with either no wings or wings. For bosses, normal and hard mode (except final boss) and challenges 1 and 3 of every area have a normal and hard mode subcategory as well.

Unfortunately this is how we have to do it, since you cant differentiate between bosses, levels and challenges by main categories.

I think this discussion/forum post suits more to the Shadow Generations board. This board is home only to the new Sonic Generations Remastered version.

Copy what Cyd said. With burned discs you´re basically still playing the same game and you shouldn´t have any unusual adventages.

Ah i thought this was the new one, since i saw an even older guide than this before, dang.
