1.0.1 is about 40 seconds slower than 1.0.0 because of loads, chances are it'll get banned sometime soon, at the moment there's more of just a gentlemen's agreement to update for the sake of fairness
I don't think there's a exact time at which you should learn specific strats, more just when you feel the timesave is worth the potential dead runs due to said trick. However, I wouldn't recommend learning DSS until you have subhour / are going for it. People tend to implement most strats around the mid 0x range, at least the ones you see done by most intermediate runners of the game, like scoot clip and nut clip. Sub 1:10 you can definitely get just by having good movement, and the longer you can go without adding 'tricks', the better imo
A timer isn't required for a run to be verified, we can retime it ourselves. In terms of not having a pc, your only real option in terms of filming is propping your phone up somewhere pointed at your tv and using that to record
there isn't an official discord, but we have a dedicated channel in my discord for it: https://discord.gg/vwyjjQFFMh (#enter-the-dungeon)
Thanks to everyone else for applying some critical thinking here. Odyssey is the 5th most popular game on speedrun.com, with 267 active players (which counts everyone who has submitted a run in the last month to my knowledge, so even some people who run the game everyday and haven't pbed in a month won't be counted). We receive a significant amount of runs each day, and considering a lot of us are in education and some (myself included) are currently doing their final exams, which will obviously take priority over a job that we volunteer to do for free out of our love for the game and community. You're not the only person waiting for a run to be verified, if you really need to know there are 216 runs in the queue currently.
Everyone else seems to be patient, why can't you be the same?
If you're looking for the split file itself, you can find one for each category besides 100% in the resources tab: https://www.speedrun.com/smo/resources In terms of the timer itself, people typically use livesplit, which is linked in KilleDragon's message.
1.3 digital is the fastest version for all main board categories, we will not be making a glitchless category.
In theory, there are probably a few sections in the game where you are waiting for your camera to turn in order to see what you're doing before starting a piece of movement. I'd say put it at high / very high, but I don't think it's that much of a hindrance and more just down to personal preference.
This should work: http://bit.ly/OdysseyLow , all smo related servers can be found in #resources in the main discord.
You don't need a board to run a category, if you truly think the run will be interesting I don't think the lack of a board would be a deterrent. The route would likely remain unchanged with maybe a few exceptions dude to lack of ability to roll fast and there is no reason why you couldn't submit a "motionless" time to the any% boards. Also if you are having issues with controllers breaking I would suggest buying a pro controller, they are much more durable than joycons.
We are not going to add more categories of the type "Any% until some point and then do something".
Surely if you were going to make a forum post about it you would at least make a rough time comparison of the two strats beforehand?
It's relatively common for cappy to clip into places, for example when doing lake clip we use cappy to see if the angle is good, because cappy can clip much easier than mario can, giving a rough idea of if the clip will work.
