It was originally the super mario galaxy community that started it, because it made more sense to have all the runs together rather than split between two webpages. I don't remember ILs really coming into the decision, but that was an added bonus as those leaderboards just didn't exist before.

ohh ok thanks, I didn't see that bit!

Hi, in Nefrum's any% guide it shows 18 red circuit assemblers feedign 12 blue sci assemblers but when I run the numbers I get that you would only need ~10 red circuit assemblers - am I missing something in the calculatios or is there deliberately way too much red circuit supply?

People also prefer Luigi because he doesn't have 5 minutes of cutscenes at the start of every attempt

Luigi isn't hard to learn how to use - he is slightly harder to control at first but he also jumps higher which is helpful.

If you are going to do a speedrun as luigi, you need a completed mario file that hasn't been started as luigi - make sure to not write over your only file like this when you do a run.

Arguably, vectoring is a glitch as you could say that the Devs did not intend you to go faster by changing direction in midair.

I know it's not as extreme as in some earlier games but its another example of how defining glitchless would be very hard

United KingdomMonkeytron2 years ago

Cascade has chest clip and also various clips used in min caps Sand has IP clip Lake has lake clip Wooded has nut clip Metro has Scooter clip, the clip to get into the costume room and a wrongwarp after the people room Snow has snow clip Seaside has fish clip Bowsers has pokino (min caps again) And then there's CRCs and nut jumps.

Most of these are clips but ive also included a few other glitches as well.

Yeah most skips aren't glitches, they use intended mechanics in an unintended way (snow dram as an extreme example).

Imo, a glitch is when the game acts in a way that wasn't intended at all - like mario being able to go through a wall or teleport cappy around at will.

I think toogs means good egg and toy time are large levels so they take longer to load generally - so there is more of a difference with faster loads.

There are currently lots of discussions going on about the future of this leaderboard page and whether each game's leaderboard will be moved to that game's page. This might mean that each individual game makes a level leaderboard in its page soon, so keep an eye out for posts by the moderators here!

Slightly weird question, and one that I imagine isn't asked here very often, but does anyone know of a way to create a TAS of an android / iOS game?

I know that android emulators exist but I have not yet find anything to suggest that any of them support frame advancing or input recording.

If anyone knows an emulator that does allow making TASes (or a technical reason why it is not possible) please let me know!

Quick update (this idea was discussed in the discord yesterday afternoon):

A few people like this idea, so they are going to do runs of it and submit it as a category extension.

The mods have agreed that if this becomes competetive as a run on the CE boards, they will hold a vote to have it added to the main boards.

How do starbits work there? I would assume if this idea was used there would have to be rules about how many starbits there were in the save file.

Yeah, I can see this working, provided that the mods agree that this would be fair (for different languages etc) and have decided exactly what to start the timer on.

Odd Bot Out is a fun physics-based puzzle game for mobile - you build bridges/staircases/cars etc out of blocks to guide the robot through each level.

The full game run is ~ an hour long (to be improved), but it is also the sort of game that you can just pick up and spend 5 minutes optimising a few levels so I would recommend it if you want to have fun finding new skips and glitches!

You do not need a timer on screen for your run to be accepted, because the mods use the time in the video from the start to the end of the run, not the time on the timer.

If you want to time your runs exactly from a YouTube video, I use this program: https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime

Ok fair, impossible to solve exactly in a timely manner / without doing trial and error for nearly every possible option.

But the point still stands, finding the optimal route by computer ain't gonna happen any time soon sadly

This is a bit off the point, but I thought like oreo that the travelling salesman problem isn't 'easy', in fact it is known for being currently impossible to solve perfectly with current technologies - sure someone could make a program that found a slightly better solution than a human could, but that time would be better spent practising the route.
