Playing a GameCube disk on Wii console is allowed, in the same way that playing the GBA version using a GameCube with the Game Boy Player is allowed.

beating yolkohama on your first try ever is the most cursed part of this run

Using the time of when the "WIN!" text appears, you actually have a time in the 9:33.xx area.

Starting out good, you should be on pace to have a time under 9 minutes with an improvement like this!

Just like me, you struggle on 7 and then make an astounding comeback on 8.

Very nice recovery on level 5, and good work handling my least favorite stage in level 6.

Nice powerup luck in this run! Without the mishap on Level 2 this would've been a solid 8-minute time.

I've spent some time looking at emulator runs as well as trying the game on Dolphin emulator. Playing on emulator allows players to use a keyboard as their peripheral instead of a controller, but no one has done that for a run. (NootAndShoot's GBA ver run is inconclusive.)

What opinions do the community have on using keyboard in the case of playing on emulator? Should it stay as default and be allowed, or should using keyboard be restricted or banned?

I've been looking at the loading time for stages in each home console release, and have found some estimated ranges for loading times. These times I've measured from the player pressing A to the loading screen cutting to black.

Xbox: 21 seconds (character intro cannot be skipped)

Additionally, PS2 can take an additional 1~2 seconds for the elevator screen to load over Xbox and GCN.

It's worth discussing what action should be taken to accommodate for runs on other consoles, since the only accepted runs as of far have been for GCN.

[Dec 7, 2021] Separation of GBA from other consoles, creation of "Over Easy [GBA]" and "Hard Boiled Hard [GBA]" categories

May reject my own run due to input display not registering movement keys.

@hebo-MAI Two new categories have been created:

Over easy [GBA] Hard boiled hard [GBA]

Affected runners: NootAndShoot (moved to Over easy [GBA]) r_parenthesis (moved to Hard boiled hard [GBA]) hebo-MAI (moved to Hard boiled hard [GBA])

I looked at the current categories in this game, and I noticed two overlaps in gameplay:

-"Hard Boiled Hard" is played as a part of "All Character Unlocks" because it's how you unlock Yolkohama. -"Bomb Mode" allows any difficulty setting, but completing it on Medium or Hard also unlocks characters. (Sir Eggolot and Poncho)

We have two speedrun categories which can help in practicing a run of ACU. This makes me wonder: Could we have a category based on reaching 1 million points in Solo as fast as possible? This is also the requirement for unlocking Angelica.

Looking at GBA gameplay, I noticed more:

  • Level fadeout is faster. GBA takes ~3 seconds after "WIN" text to fade to black. Other versions take ~6 seconds when touching the goal, and ~4 seconds for win by disqualification.

  • Completing rows spawns new blocks differently. I do not have a cohesive description of these differences, but you can look at some of hebo-MAI's runs on GBA and compare the bonus block spawns to other consoles. I may also be psyching myself out and it's just a consequence of rows being 7-wide.

There are many differences in GBA version, more when you pay heavy attention.

Alright, thank you very much! When I have the game ready to play I can go through with a 100% playthrough and then start speedrunning.

Whether just this thread or having a guide, it'd still be good to have a resource for troubleshooting that other people wanting to try the game out can look to.

I'm a long time fan of I-Ninja since I was young, looking to have a better opportunity to replay the game and try speedrunning. I have been able to get a copy for Windows and have it installed properly, but I am having some troubles:

  1. Because my computer uses Windows 10, it obviously isn't perfectly compatible since the game is intended for performance on Windows 98 through XP. I'm sure there's a simple answer, but I want to ask if there's a way to improve compatibility to have the game work optimally.

  2. There are also issues coming from the star-force copy protection, since the game refuses to "complete installation" because of what I'm guessing is a false flag from the copy protection. The window that the program is stuck on whenever I open it is this: https://i.imgur.com/ZArauit.png I'm wondering if there's any way to solve this or if I'd need an entirely new copy. (The latter of which I really don't want to do because I've already had to hunt down one copy of the game for PC.)

If there's any assistance that the runners on PC can provide, it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm also hoping I can hear something from iexrrr, since he's not only a runner for PC but also a moderator of the game's speedrun side.
