Discuss what categories you'd like to see added to the leaderboard.
I've been thinking about adding Low%, where no items are collected other than HP, gold, and keys. If I or anyone else does a run I'll add it, but for now I'll leave it off.
Please note race categories like "Complete the first/second/etc. level" will not be added.
I think I know what you're saying, just verify if this is right:
- Activate Temple teleporter.
- Collect exp orbs and go out of bounds.
- Hold up, teleport to Risk of Rain and get sent to the "start" because you were out of bounds.
- Grab boss room ladder, skip spawn rng, skip 13 seconds of running above the map and doing the glitch.
The game is horribly programmed so I wouldn't doubt that it's possible. I'll try to take a look when I have a chance.
Yes, Risk of Rain has been to GDQs before, but one of the runs never finished and the other was unable to do one of the donation incentives because of RNG (defeating Providence with fireworks). At this point if RoR were submitted to GDQ, they'd see past results and probably immediately reject it.
If there was some kind of seeded run (guaranteed maps, spawns, items, enemies, etc.), it would probably have a chance since we could probably play at an acceptable resolution for stream to see because the entire run would be predictable. The estimate wouldn't have to be 20 minutes because of potential bad RNG, it could be about 10 minutes depending on who's playing.
I've always wanted to TAS this game since it would probably be absolutely bonkers with RNG manipulation. Sadly we probably won't have anything resembling the original project file anytime soon.
Yeah I saw that post on SDA a while ago and always wondered how he managed to get it. I guess it was just an older version from before the switch to GM:S.
I wonder though, if we managed to get the source and could modify the game, would it be allowed to run the modified version if we only changed which maps we got? It would make runs a lot less tedious and time consuming and more skill based. Even if it weren't allowed, there's not really much anyone can do to prove anything was or wasn't modified in the first place. Maybe Onin can chime in.
I'll try that decompiler, thanks. Who knows, maybe some kind of miracle will happen and it'll work.
Can anyone provide the source code or a tutorial to get the source for v1.2.2?
I've tried everything I could find online related to Game Maker, but have never had any luck.
I've been trying to find glitches with the teleporter and simply can't find anything, the source would be extremely useful at this point.
I tried a Low% run a few months ago for fun. It can definitely be done, but it's pretty difficult, but can be made a lot easier with a glitch I mention below.
Merc would normally be fastest, but because we can't pick up Goat Hoof or take damage with glass on, we can't go fast enough to go through the doors.
Fastest class would probably be whatever can take down Providence fast enough, since getting to teleporters shouldn't vary too much with each class. I don't know which would actually be fastest for that, but Sniper could be right.
There actually is a notable bug to abuse for Low%. You might be familiar with dying but activating the teleporter. This is showcased in Onin's IGT% run and it resets the in-game timer for the next map so that enemies are not nearly as strong: (skip to 11m18s)
In Onin's video, the way he dies is with the Glowing Meteorite, which obviously can't be used in Low%. So there's finally a use for a similar glitch I found a while back:
The way it works is as follows:
- Find the teleporter and activate it
- Find a command chest (perfect for low% because they're allowed), best one would be one a boss drops because it's close to the teleporter
- Press A on it, and wait for some enemies to spawn near you
- Take damage. Right before you take your final damage to die, pick any item from the command chest
- You are now invisible but still alive. Kill off any enemies that are alive, no new ones will spawn
- Activate teleporter when it counts down, move onto next level
You'd have to do it 5 times in a run, but it's probably the easiest way to complete Low%. The timing to pick the item from the chest is pretty precise, but it's no where close to frame perfect. You just have to make sure to activate it before the enemy kills you.
Wallet is the first green item I pick up. Using it we get over double our normal amount of gold during the first map. Normally I would have 2 green items after it, but twice now with wallet I've had 4 feathers after the first map.
Because we (or atleast anyone with a brain) are using laser strats, the extra missiles are useful for first phase Providence. Along with extra white items we can pick up now from having ridiculous amount of items, first phase is an absolute joke compared to current WR.
There is no extra time at the end of the map, if it is its negligible because we can spend most of our gold anyway. Gold from dead enemies at the end of teleporter is always an issue, but it's not like getting extra gold makes the gold go any faster.
Vouching for bio_teacher with wallet. It's absolutely insane. Lemurians normally drop $3, but with wallet they drop ~$14.
A lot less runs have been dying lately because I can actually open most chests and get Amethyst, and even by map 3 I have a ridiculous arsenal of items like missiles and a few lasers.
I would definitely say wallet will end up being a time save, mainly because of all the items you can get from it that can take down first phase Providence really quickly.
I've done some short testing, and it seems like picking up 3-5 Lasers as opposed to Missiles can save a decent amount of time on the first 2 phases.
With teleporting, you lose about half your current charge. Either that or you shoot it off. It's kinda inconsistent, but it doesn't matter because you can charge up above the final map.
Also something to note is that there is a vision cue for when the laser is close to going off. It's not perfect, but it's as good as we would need it. As it charges up (usually takes ~15 shots depending on # of lasers and # of syringes), there is a red aura behind Bandit that gets larger, it consistently gets to about the same point before it goes off.
Laser does about 1/4 HP to phase 1 Providence. With enough green missiles the fight will either be equivalent to current WR or slightly faster. Phase 2 will be no problem with this setup, as it's pretty much a OHKO. This saves ~5 seconds over WR as well.
Something to note with this new strat is that Any% can now humanly get below 9 minutes.
Seems like a pretty cool idea, might de-clutter the category list a bit.
No more autosplitter. "It may not even work on other OSes or other such situations." Hfhf.
Since it seems like no one can participate, we'll just cancel this month's race. Maybe we can do one next month. I'll still leave the thread up for ~a day in case someone wants to post about them participating.
I would think Low% would include not picking up drones, since you're "collecting" them. Definitely need some clarification though.
Also a quick note to anyone who wants to run Low%: use the Command artifact. That way you won't accidentally pick up a boss item, ruining the run.
Hey guys. I forgot to mention in the original post but the race will be on SpeedRunsLive. Make sure you register there and also register on their race IRC, try to get well acquainted with it before the race comes around.
Here are some useful links/information for SRL IRC: Registering - http://imgur.com/CNQXVAm List of commands for RaceBot - http://www.speedrunslive.com/faq/commandlist/ Those of you who use LiveSplit will automatically be .done with the race when your splits are finished, as long as you entered the race on LiveSplit. This will also start your splits when the race begins.
At what time are you available on Saturday? I have class until 5pm your time.
The race will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2015. It will begin at 7:00PM GMT (3:00PM EST, 12:00PM PST). This gives people a week to practice. The estimate is somewhere between 3-6 hours, depending on skill level.
Rules: Fastest completion on all characters, Rainstorm difficulty, artifacts allowed, any patch that has all 12 characters. You can complete the characters in any order. You can Exit to Main Menu after defeating Providence and ACTIVATING THE TERMINAL. Timing in RTA. Timing ends when you activate the terminal on the final character.
Here's some splits if you want to use them (they have pretty pictures of each character): https://splits.io/a6y
Hopefully if all goes well, we can have some regular races of other categories too. The last race of this game on SRL was ~1 year ago.
The results: 1st - Onin, 3:49:35 2nd - Sakurion, 3:53:06 3rd - anshwo, 4:27:18
