Was watching my old 1st place run and discovered a better way to attempt this level. Thought I'd put this here as a reference.
Obviously, one level that makes or breaks your speedrun. This level took me the longest time in my recent speedrun, due to multiple deaths and issues. Some tips for how to progress through that level:
- Get the 3 keys in the first room you spawn in. Go in this order
- go to the up on the right and go 2 platforms up for the first key
- go back to the up on the right, hop left at the last possible platform to jump on, fall down, get the 2nd key -clear the board blocking the left up and STAY to the right once it's broken. Wait until sylvester jumps back up and chases you. -go to the left up and grab the third key. Stay to the right until sylvester walks right, then jump down and back up to get to the warp
- Go to the far right warp to take you to the ladder area
- go straight up and grab the hammer
- go straight down and break the block that blocks the fourth key. Let sylvester fall onto the warp BEFORE you grab the key. The grab the key and warp at the right moment
- break the blocks and open the door at the end of the blocks to grab a gun
- fall down
- do a reeeeally quick turn and shoot foghorn, then grab the key. you will not have a lot of time to pull this off, but it'll save a lot of time if you do it
- grab the key at the bottom left, then head for the warp. you do not need the pickaxe
- the rest of the level is simple. grab the 2 keys by the gunman, go to the warp, fall down, go through the small pipe, level complete.
This level is really hard to get correct. I died a couple times in my last run to this level and thought that ruined my chance to get sub 2 hours. Getting this level done correctly can save a lot of time.
Any other level questions, let me know.
Thanks for informing me on this. I know you can't prove I used a WiiMote from those videos, but I have previous footage (non-uploaded since failed run) of me using a facecam with WiiMote. Again, in this run, I didn't facecam, so no proof. To be honest though, I wouldn't know how this game would be playable using a modified controller anyways, but I really appreciate you getting back to me about this ^_^
@Francesco I actually had a Wii Remote connected to dolphin emulator, therefore I didn't bypass the motion controls. It's impossible to play it emulated without a wii remote anyways. (I actually scream sometime during the stream, idk if in this run, that I hurt myself flicking the wii remote since I hit a table)
I just spent hours and hours attempting a good speedrun and I was rejected for using an emulator due to "faster loading times." I want to argue against that. First of all, if anything, it lags the game. Every minigame I've played lagged half to death and it's just irritating. Second, if you actually watched the runs, mods, you would see that it runs at the same time as any other run. If you didn't want emulators, you could've specified it in the rules rather than having me wasting my time. I would just love to use my Wii U, but too bad I can't afford a capture card.
@jobber I know, I just enjoy streaming more. I can just take Co-Op and move on.
Honestly, I've been trying to get people not to help when I stream, it's just easier for me to do while filming. You also don't know if the person had everything muted and if they were talking to another person while being muted, although it'd be quite obvious. I'll gladly move to co-op if people have an issue with it. I still don't see the big deal, but whatever.
I agree with the concerns that connor has stated.
It does feel like the real way to play instead of just teleporting to people, in my opinion, so why not have another way to speedrun?
@JobberMcDumDum Again, I see all points with that whole situation, and Buttons fall under cheating so no, that wouldn't work. Summons can't really be spammed and I think it'd be cheap to spam them throughout a run, but does it really hurt if there's one summoned by you or someone watching? Again, it could be anyone. Let's say that someone watching a speedrun summoned an invasion but didn't say that they were the one who did it. We can all assume it's a random, correct? Don't see a problem with that.
@JobberMcDumDum Obviously, that doesn't count as stated in the original solo rules. Also, you're forgetting about the fact that there's no friend task required for anything outside of TTC :-).
@Ross123123 was just throwing an example since we all know there will be people who do it (God knows why...). I don't see an issue with invasion summons mainly because another speedrunner could have the invasion during their time while you're left in the dust (Example: Mingler/Legal Eagle key). If you have an invasion, why not use it? If you don't, oh well. I'm just hearing that anyone can summon it except you, and I see where that'd get on peoples' nerves, but I don't have an issue with it personally.
@Legofan543 To be fair, I was streaming and had only one person, whom I did call with, help me, but I never added him. I do see the complaints with the solo rules, but walking to buildings is a huge pain in the ass, so maybe it could go under its own category to be a "No Friend" kind of run? But honestly, do you see anyone soloing playgrounds without calling for help, whereas they need a factory or building? (I guess you could go to the full district, but that's just time consumption)
I feel like having Co-Op and Solo as two categories is a great suggestion. However, I feel like people are crying too much about the little rules there are in Solo runs, which was originally to not add anyone. I feel as if not adding people should go under its own category since Co-Op speedrunners can just tp to their friends, and walking to the building feels like the real deal.
Honestly, I think the "not adding anyone" aspect should be the only part of solo since you have to run to each building. I think it's fine mainly because, well think about it, let's say you're in the brrrgh on the 20 4+ stories. Do you really expect to go the whole time without asking an added friend or someone you can talk with for help? I honestly don't see the big deal with the solo rules now and what all the complaints are about. If you can't beat someone's solo time because of the rules, there's literally no need to get all salty about it and go on a rant. Plus let's be real, streaming allows people to troll and stall the speedrunner, so I don't know what all the complaints are about if you guys don't stream yourselves.
