Categories & Rules.

Hey everyone!

This board used to have no moderator actually for the longest time. I run the Game Boy version, and was set to one here after the board had no moderator. It used to have some confusing categories with very arbitrary goals - some of which made no sense (25 levels, 50 levels, 75 levels, "All Levels" and Any%).

I believe the way the boards were setup in the past was to create categories for every time you see "credits", but, this game was and is very unpopular and no one ran it anyway. At the time, there was no runs for "Any%", "25 levels", "75 Levels". Then, Nintendo decided to play necromancer and brought it back from the dead for Switch online and it's seen a little bit of activity.

All the previous categories had no rules at all, and, if you check Sutte Hakun as a series, had categories that also weren't exactly unified. I since deleted "25 Levels", "Any%", and "75 Levels", and added some basic timing rules as there was nothing established. I chose timing at the time for the legacy Japanese runners that previously had submitted runs.

Traditionally also, the previous categories in other games were sequential. 50 levels meant 50 levels in a row (1-50). All stages meant all stages (usually 90-100, minus bonus sections) and bonus levels had their own category, like an extra mode.

Unique routing happened and I verified some runs I honestly shouldn't have trying to get the board in order. 50 levels should be 50 in a row (1, 2, 3, 4, 5...) but people have been routing it to pick 50 levels total not respecting the sequential order. What do people prefer?

I personally would not add another category for 50 Levels, just change the rules to reflect the community preference. Thanks!

I vote to leave it as is, which is beat ANY 50 stages or "50 stages". It seems counter productive to delete all of the runs just to make an empty category when everyone who has ran the game uses the same route. I do agree that having 25/75 is unnecessary as it's not a popular game and there are no runs or interest shown for those categories.

Hey!

On second thought I think this entire thread was honestly completely irrelevant and I'll just uphold the old legacy routing as people ran it before that way as that's just logical and fair.

I did adjust the rules to mimic the timing at the end of All Levels (it can be at the fade-out, instead of the actual credits) as I'll again mirror the old legacy runs and how they timed it before. I'll also revise in the rules any levels can be played as long as the amount totals 50, regardless of sequential order, and that save & reload is also allowed. 50 Levels had slightly separate timing, so it can end at the fade-out as well so everything is now unified and I'll adjust all the current runs to reflect everything tomorrow.

[Edit]: Also added Switch Virtual Console as a platform.

Awesome! I like the more detailed rules. Everything looks great. Thanks.

Not that my opinion matters imo (I have done runs of the various categories in the past, but don't have them submitted and probably won't still), but everything looks good. Personally I'd add a category for getting to the end of the Extra stages, and one for getting to the end of the battle stages, but that's probably just me.
