Hello everyone! With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 imminent, we have added a new annotated variable to all of the Sword/Shield categories: the Console variable. This variable is used to denote whether your run was performed on the Switch 1 or on the Switch 2.
This new Console variable allows us to keep track of what console was used for each run, so that in the future we may split up Switch 1 vs Switch 2 into their own separate Subcategories if desired by the community.
At the moment, we do not know if the Switch 2 will lead to any timesave at all, or, if it will, how much time it may save over runs done on the original Nintendo Switch. The discussion of how much time is saved, how much timesave warrants a split between the two consoles, etc. will be an ongoing one taking place within the Switch Pokémon Speedrunning Discord server. Regardless of the outcome, the leaderboards are now equipped to show which console was used and are equipped to be rearranged however we all see fit.
Best of luck with any speedrunning done on the new console! Thank you!
Turbo is now allowed for all categories in the Let's Go and Sword/Shield category extensions leaderboards!
Turbo is a function that allows some 3rd party controllers to input repeated button presses by only holding the button down, i.e. holding down the A button would simulate repeatedly pressing the A button.
Once you have done a run with turbo, let a leaderboard moderator know, (in discord or the forums) and we will create the leaderboard for it. If there is enough active interest in turbo runs, the runs currently found without turbo on the main boards will also have turbo runs available there in a format that will be decided by a vote.
We're hopeful this will bring new, much needed accessibility to our speedrunning leaderboards.
As a result of the recent direction of speedrun.com and in solidarity with the other communities impacted by the site's recent changes, the Switch Pokémon Speedrunning moderation team is suspending verification of leaderboard submissions.
The speedrun.com page will remain dormant and we will not verify runs until speedrun.com allows disabling of comments and gives regular moderators the ability to delete comments.
We apologize for any runs waiting in the queue to be verified.
