Hey guys! I have been heavily been considering running this game but with the newest update so recently out it made me consider how many changes have been made, including a new longer ending among other things.
So this made me wonder especially with the update coming in free on PC (and likely automatically) if runs will have to be done on old version, or if there might be a new 'Weird Autumn Edition" category of sorts. Thoughts?
Thanks for that entire guide BearAbou. You can also do the turning animation skip by quickly tapping the direction you want to turn, whichever is more comfortable. I plan on doing a run soon, so thanks again.
If yall are finding it literally impossible to get any PBs with the new patch let me know through one of my social medias and I'll see what I can do about separating. As Bear said right now it looks like it would still be beatable using the newest weird autumn patch. The question though is if the community wants to split at that point or just add a variable for patch# Because in theory any% would mean any patch. Including the release patch that's bugged and has the debug code in that lets you skip entire days. I haven't really had to deal with anyone using that yet but if they do well. I think the best if we DO split would be any% any patch and an any% current patch. Though we'll cross that bridge if we absolutely have to.
But yea, talk about it, voice your opinions on what you'd like done and if I'm ever afk for periods of time just message me and I'll make sure to check it out ASAP. I'm not very good at checking speedrun forums all the time. I'll make sure to put into effect whatever the community wants though.
WR is 100% beatable on the current patch so for now it's fine, you may want to create a new category however if someone does submit a run on 1.0. Problem that comes up with any% current patch is say someone gets WR on a say 1.6 (made up number ), then the game updates to 1.7 and is 5 minutes slower, that category is now dead and everyone may as well run any% any patch.
I don't know if there's still a discord but it's easier to talk over there if becomes a contentious topic as there can be more fluid discussion in a server.
For now it's all fine and dandy. Runs should be required to be done on at least the weird autumn update, I feel the previous runs can stay and that should be a rule going forward. If someone was really going for gold doing it on an earlier patch and getting to skip the Gregg cutscene and the additional dialog would be a bit unfair. That being said no one has cleanly run this game yet, and the current WR can easily have 5-6 minutes shed off
