Tengu, draped in gold, leads his samurai with pride, falls to his own blade.
To be killed with his own katana! Poetic
I don’t think this strategy can be dramatically improved: 6/7 minutes is just running, so challengers need to find better approach. This is the best time out of 5-6 successful attempts I've done. Results ranged from 7 to 11 minutes.
The strategy itself is consistent enough but has a random element that influences time a lot - defeating Tengu. If entering KO point while unconscious Tengu takes a lot of time to pass.
This speedrun is unexpectedly difficult. Knocking out Tengu is trivial - classic shinobi thieves strategy - but his guards are the real deal. I couldn’t get far from the city without being cut down by some Samurai Captain.
So, I decided to fight him. On average, it takes around the same time as running to the cage at Fort Simion. Inspired by Twisted Logic's King Gorillo speedrun I decided to use structures to block opponents. And it worked!
Tips for indoor fighting:
- If you block the entrance completely, the game will teleport you out. Make small offsets between obstacles.
- Guards tend to glitch through structures. You may need a couple of layers of defense.
- Tengu can be pushed through walls and corners. During the fight, it's better to position him in the center of the room and readjust when he’s unconscious.
- Use stealth mode to avoid Tengu’s "playing dead" behaviour.
Guards might follow you or lose track of you after breaking down the door. It felt completely random.
Good luck!
