proposal on overhauling leaderboard layout
5 years ago

hi! ive been playing granblue for 3 years or so and am interested in potentially doing ILs.

right now the leaderboard is confusingly organized and is also missing MANY raids, notably the tier 3 summon raids that now have ingame rewards for soloing (and thus attract more players to compete for them).

here is a mockup of an overhauled leaderboard: https://i.imgur.com/OEkD311.png https://i.imgur.com/pSqiMMI.png

cliff's notes of changes:

  1. added every raid starting with the omega summons. anything lower than them will probably not have a lot of competition due to their very low difficulty.
  2. columns are now "solo" and "cooperative" instead of individual difficulties. raids with different difficulties have their own rows now. this is much easier to read and understand than the current setup. 2.5 i am not familiar with how speedrun.com pages are set up, and if it's possible to combine the different difficulties into the same row without requiring all raids have those categories, please do this!
  3. the final fantasy XIV leaderboard has dummy categories to separate dungeons and trials. i made liberal use of this for ease of reading.
  4. also for ease of reading, i only use the official english language names for all content.

I like this idea, unfortunately it doesnt look like the moderators are present now. But a separate category for cooperative vs solo is a good idea.

While the idea seems great and all, It is very hard to control how many people join in a coop raid + it might be slower than most solos due to the fact you actually have to give the code to your buddies. It's only a good idea to have coop available for specifically hard content like Bluci and Bubs (both of which die in less than 5 minutes in a proper coop pup). And then there is akasha and GOHL (which it is nearly impossible to get the names of 17 other people in a pub)

I have always assumed that for a proper speedrun, you need all 6 (or 18 in case of Aka and GOHL) to be active participants. Aka you know who they are beforehand. Besides, it is much faster with active participants rather than unknown ones so there's no reason to go for these records in pubs.

Regarding code giving, just use ready check. The raid starts automatically once all the players are ready so there's no need to give code, this gives a good way to record time too.

Hello! I'm very happy for your advice! I am not good in English, but I will try to explain the rules about reload and cooperate speedrun.

Initially, we designed the rule of no reload, mainly because of the different internet speeds across the world, which can cause different latencies in reload, and we wanted to minimize this difference.

But like aqing0601 says, in Super Ultimate Bahamut, it’s very difficult to speedrun with no-reload. So, I think it’s time to change the rule about reload.

As you can see, the category is change from level of difficulty to solo with reload or no reload, and boss category change to classification of difficulties.

Co-op part, at first it was a testing category, so it only made one category for Ultimate Bahamut. Because it is hard to prove six or more people do not have reload in run, so there are no new related options to set. Ultimate Bahamut co-op, also the category that I always want to delete but I did not, I think maybe someday it will be ok for speedrun in co-op mode.

After rules change, I still need to think about the rules of co-op, screen verification and personnel verification will be the problem and I want to make a complete rule for co-op speedrun.

I'm happy to see Granblue Fantasy still have a lots of player in 2023, and I'd like to see more and more speedrun meta here. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

I hope you can understand the reasons how rule changes till now, have a good day and get gold brick every day!

Thanks for changing it! Regarding internet speed, there is no way for Non-JP to compete against JP anyways even with reload.

I might speak from a individual point of view, and not the whole audience. But personally, I want to speedrun this game not for the WR but for a record of personal bests so even though I know that JP is going to be faster than me, I'm not going to go for WR regardless. Furthermore, I don't think there is a way to keep things "Fair" between speedrunners, people will always have inequal grids, and IF speedrunning this game becomes more popular, this becomes a competition of money anyways so there is no reason to compete against other people (if you see what I mean).

Regarding coop, I don't think it's practical to enforce no-refresh. Instead, you just need the host's view. Since the host is always the first person to start a raid. This means that there is no way to check unlawful tools such as Viramate for the other 5 players but I don't think we're at that point yet.

If you're interested, I believe I messaged you about becoming a mod here? I would LOVE to help out and create a community.

Rules Changes!

Implemented some rules changes, none of them will invalidate any previous runs, most of them are just for clarity's sake. (i.e. your run must be completed for it to count, you can not time out or forfeit a run and achieve a time even though you "technically" reached the results screen".
