Hey everyone!
We're very happy to announce the addition of a 5 minute break to the FF8 2013 CSR. There is also a new version of the Autosplitter for the 2013 PC version.
You can find the new versions of the CSR (1.31 for French and 1.2 for English) with the same links as before.
The Autosplitter is now hosted by the livesplit github, so you can activate it within Livesplit. If you wish to add it manually, the version is also updated on speedrun.com resources.
Note that the timer must be set to Game Time for the pause to function correctly and we strongly advise people to test it in advance of completing a run.
Huge thank you to Seifer for creating the break within the CSR and ElliotOrnitier for updating the Autosplitter.
Hopefully this will encourage more runs for the PC CSR. Happy running!
Hey all,
Just a quick post in the interest of transparency, here are some of the leader board changes that have happened in the background over the past few weeks.
-
We have overhauled all the rules on SRC and confirmed their accuracy. There were some vague rules and overlaps between categories. Everything should be in order now.
-
Level leader boards have been removed entirely. This is just neater overall as the levels were just used for Dollet. As a result Dollet% has been moved to it's own category for it's respective platforms.
-
Dollet% has been added to PSX. As the category existed already, we just needed some runners. The board has since been created.
-
PSX Leaderboards now have a Turbo button rather than a separate category for turbo and non turbo runs. This is to future proof All Bosses or Dollet if people wish to run them with or without Turbo.
We hope these changes make the boards easier to navigate.
Happy running!
Hey everyone!
We're pleased to unveil a brand new resource for FF8 speedrunning, ff8.wiki!
The plan is for this to become a central hub for information regarding speedrunning this game in all its forms. We've made a start in building the basic structure and including some of the more fundamental information (including the hardest skip...), but as you will be able to see there is still a lot of missing information, and a lot of red links. As with any wiki, information can be contributed by anyone, so feel free to get stuck in; any help would be greatly appreciated! One point to stress is that this aims to specifically be a wiki about FF8 speedrunning, so we should try to stay relevant and avoid adding unnecessary information that sits outside of this scope.
A new channel in the discord server has also been created for any discussion related to the wiki to take place.
Big thank you to Brofar for getting the website set up for us.
Happy running!
Hey everyone
After requests from some members of the community, we have decided to return missing WR runs to the leaderboards on speedrun.com. We feel our job as moderators is to maintain the SRC leaderboards as accurately as we can so we agreed that this was a worthwhile course of action.
The criteria for runs which were added back is: they were all WRs at one time, and also the current PB of the removed players. (That is to say: we have not added every WR a runner may have had in the the lead up to their current PB)
The boards affected are:
- PSX Disc: US Any%, JP Any%, US Any% Turbo,
- PC (Windows 7): Any%,
- HD (Console): Any% - No Turbo, and
- PSX Digital.
Thanks everyone, happy running!
Hey everyone!
We have decided to make a change to the ruleset for the PSX leaderboard. From today, the use of pre-manipulation will be banned and cannot be used in submissions. This is to finally bring PSX in line with the rest of the platforms, which had banned pre-manipulation.
We have spoken with the two remaining runners with times using pre-manip on the board. They have both decided to have their pre-manip runs removed. After removing these runs, there is no other use of pre-manip on the leaderboard, making this the ideal time to make this change. This will change the current listed WR to ConnorCordell's 8:20:21 run.
We hope that the changes will make the PSX run more appealing for those who wish to compete and hopefully inspire some new runs/runners in the community. We will also begin the process of compiling FF8 WRs for history sake so no achievement will be forgotten.
Happy running!
