With the introduction of the Individual Level leaderboard, there's some discussion to be had with how the levels are timed. Credit to qflame for bringing it up.
I'm offering up this as an option, which can even be applied to previous runs in the full category, but I'll only move forward if there's a general agreement. I'm also open to other options.
So basically: Green Arrow Timing. Timing starts when your green arrow becomes visible and stops when it disappears. It would eliminate the RNG Animations of the Time Machine and would standardize the Individual Levels.
I can go back and see what the corrected times would be for the main categories if we think it's a good idea. Thoughts?
(Oh and I also want to toss out the idea of removing level select time from the Bonus Category. Though I know that would open the floodgates for removing the same in Any%, which I'm less inclined to as it's optional in that case)
So would this also stop the timer while using the Time Machine during a level? Since the green arrow disappears during that small bit of time too?
(Not that it would really matter much since the animation is always the same, but I was just wondering.)
A fair question, as the animation is constant and subtracting the times would just be added work all around, I'd say no.
So a better wording would be: Timing starts when your green arrow becomes visible on your first bot and stops when it disappears after collecting the skip circuit.
Makes sense!
Also, to respond to your other suggestion, I think it makes sense to remove the menu time from the Bonus Levels category at least, but I also think it wouldn't be wrong to also remove it from Any% (and No Pause Glitch too I guess? No one should be menuing anyway). This would make it similar to other games that use Game Time, but I get that there is no real "Game Time" for Chronotron... so I guess it could go either way tbh
Okay, rules have been edited. Green Arrow Timing is being applied for all categories.
I'm going to go ahead and remove menuing time from the Bonus Levels. I am however going to institute a max cap of 30 seconds of menuing, that way runners can't just sit there indefinitely and get mentally and physically situated for the next level.
If it works well on Bonus Levels, we can discuss Any% at a later date.
We just recently got a batch of submissions in the individual levels section that did not have an on screen timer. As there were no previous runs in these categories, they have all been approved for now, but I wanted to take the opportunity to discuss the timer.
The game does have a built in timer
