This game has a ton of uncontrollable rng, and on top of that you get speed potions + dupe on consume trinket. With that, whoever can drink more times in a row gets the best time. No skill involved beyond being able to do the route no matter how slowly. So my suggestion is to ban speed potions when the new patch comes out. This can very easily be done with a mod (the same I've talked about in a different thread).
Me and roar talk about how all the times are just blah, because the RNG dream will trump all. Speed potions are the ultimate time save and the game is already full of RNG. Its a good thought, but its the only really helpful RNG u get. If we are trying to post the fastest times possible.
We could make a new category or something, but once we start filling the game with modded times you have to have or it invalidates your speedrun. The doors to the community are gonna slam on newcomers. Im very open to what others think tho.
I think running the game would be a lot more pleasant if we collectively agreed to not use potions. I also think it'd be a little less awesome sometimes.
I can go either way. It certainly would increase consistency, but then it'd be a new thing and whatnot. Maybe Shame's got the right idea tacking it on to 1.6. Like I said though, I can go either way.
I'm not opposed to the idea in itself but I'm indirectly opposed to the notion on the basis that we will alienate players. If just speedrunning the game (glitchless) requires the installation of a mod or requires that they can't utilize perfectly intended things in the original game then I think it's a bad idea. Especially since the site format somehow necessitates that the IL ruleset is not visible unless you click on a particular level, I think we'll see people doing great runs and then getting rejected because they drank a potion...
