I found it was hard to tell when the button to start a new run was clicked so that's why now time starts on the first black screen as it is a consistent visual cue which should make it easier to verify runs
I also decided time should end after the last significant player input, so after interacting with the police officer at the end in Scrap Palace, it is true that the player has control of the camera in a later cutscene but I don't think this should matter in the speedrun as it does not impact how long it takes for the game to end
For a similar reason I thought about allowing to start a run from the "level select menu" which would skip about a minute and a half of cutscene - this would be more speedrun friendly but it would also cut off the opening credits and I do not feel comfortable with that ; I consider this game to be quite a unique gem and want to show support to the developer so I decided against it for now
here is the modification I just wrote into the rules :
"Time ends when the loading icon in the bottom right corner disappears, right before the diary fades in Please make sure some part of the loading icon is always visible in your video submission ! (for example if livesplit is in the bottom right corner of your recording make sure it doesn't hide the icon entirely or make the timer background transparent otherwise)"
I made this change after watching Oknia's wr run and realizing that the diary fading in was hard to time precisely, so I think using this visual cue is better while staying true to the original timing since the end of the loading screen should be exactly when the diary starts fading in (even though all you can see at first is a black screen)
tell me if any of this seems confusing or poorly worded
freaking butterfly just barged into my kitchen and dive-bombed into the pot of boiling water, guess it's gonna be butterfly flavored pasta tonight, what the heck
the rules for Any% current version do not match the timing used for the only run on the board
as someone interested in running this game i'd like to know how to time my run, until then i'll time my runs starting the timer when i click Confirm (new game) and ending it at the lighthouse cutscene since that is what makes the most sense
starting the timer when the player gets control of the character seems a bit of an odd choice to me since the player is in control of skipping the first cutscene and clicking through the dialogue before that
I replaced : "Time ends when the screen fades to black after you crossed the final door of the game." by : "Time ends as soon as the screen starts fading to black after reaching the end of the game."
I wanted to clarify because I felt it was unclear if the timer should stop at the beginning or the end of the fade to black, especially because in my runs i stop the timer late (but that's just because I'm slow). So, even though there is no need for such precision right now, the exact time would be on the first frame of the fade to black.
I also edited out the bit about crossing the final door because i found out it is possible to go out of bounds in the last room and trigger the credits without going through the door. (not much of a timesave though and it is a run killer if you fall off the level)
might be a dumb question but i've been browsing through the pc games on the website and it'd be easier for my neurotic self if i could just bookmark a page and go back to it instead of having to scroll down
