Judging by his video, he used Wsplit and used to split manually. His sword split is a few frames early.
There's an autosplitter available on livesplit, but I'm not sure if it works with any% splits.
I'm pretty sue most people I've seen running any% used to split manually to be honest.
If you are interesting in speedrunning this game, you can join the LA/DX community Discord through this link:
Don't be afraid to come and ask anything you want, there will always be some people hanging out in the main channels!
In LA we skip the hookshot though :) You should watch an LADX run and then an LA run to see the difference!
Also feel free to join the Discord server, everyone will gladly help you out if anything! https://discord.gg/PjR9CP
No problem! Also if you need any help with the glitches, feel free to ask, there are not much explanations for the LA-only glitches yet. ACE means Arbitrary Code Execution, basically by naming all three files a certain way, you can rewrite stuff in the game, and it is used to make a credit warp when you open one chest in the doghouse.
ICS means Instrument Cutscene Skip.
• In LADX, there is a deathless category which is the legacy run, aka a very very old route. In LA there are different glitches which make the route completely different and, along with that, there is a deathwarp used once we get the D4 key. The Legacy category isn't really a thing in LA though.
• All versions (1.0/1.1) are allowed.
Allowed platforms:
-Game Boy -Game Boy Color -Game Boy Advance -Super Game Boy 2 -Gamecube Game Boy Player -Bizhawk -Gambatte revision 537 or higher -BGB version 1.4.3 or higher
Banned platforms: -Super Gameboy -All other emulators
• no you have to press the four buttons, pressing them in different order results to different outcome on some tricks in the game.
• Long time ago, in LADX, the US version was the only one allowed (still used in Legacy) In LA it has always been the Japanese version though. The Japanese version is faster obviously because the texts are shorter. 1.0 is better to run on because there are glitches exclusive to this version.
[Edit] I guess zmaster was faster than me :P
Nice, thanks a lot for the work, and grats for not being lazy for a moment :P
So now we definitely know that it is what we were afraid of: a weird frame rule ruining it all...
The yolo jump indeed is only about timing. I will test randomly items and stuff to miraculously find a new method. Let's pray.
Well... thing is it is not really called any% S+Q, but any% no WW no OOB - and that's it!
If someone has a better time in noSQ, I don't see any reason not to accept it. It is as if you were not to accept any form of route in any%, as the 'any' clearly indicates that it's as you wish.
If someone has a faster run without SQing, well, that's a problem for the SQ runners to resolve in my opinion.
Then if you want to add a SQ restriction to it, well we have to change the name and clearly put "with SQs" where it is said in the rules at least one SQ is mandatory.
Random question: could this work for LA?
I use(d) a GBA SP AGS-001 and this set up to film it.
SP=best buttons ever
So I'm making a poll-type post:
main page: -any% -hundo -MC -SQ
misc: -AI -Legacy
I'm not sure saying 'SQ has almost the same route as MC' is a good argument. We could just say 'MC is slower and has only 2 PoPs'. But it's an endless debate. The best thing in my opinion would be for these categories to have much different names, but this is not the purpose of the thread.
Same as above, except, of course, that SQ makes as much sense as noSQ :p
But remember it will always be worth for you to make your own savestates, so you will always have the same menu route ;)
I also see more categories as more choice for new people interested in running this game. Because we all have preferences in a speedrun - its glitches, its tricks, its length, and so on - and adding more categories such as Seashell Sword could bring a new interest, and therefore, new runners. That's pretty much why we can see RBO being run by some people.
Also I don't see any problem with the leaderboards to have not that many times on them. There are games who will have only two runners on its main category. And... the number of times can only increase right?
Just a question, in some versions of the game (maybe only LA OG?), like the German and the French versions, when one quick kills the Genie in D2, it duplicates itself and, therefore, you get 2 full hearts killing it, and then you can get more than the max amount of hearts.
Is that dupe too?
If so, would runs with this glitch get banned?
There was a time where I used to fall in D4 when I had to go in D7...
And I still do Goomba surfing in D7 even if I run DX :P
And I trigger the pits in D2 mini boss room for swegswegsweg.
And I guess I love damage boosts.
Ahem, in don't really see any reason for a crash in LA. It does crash in LADX but it's not the same. Are you playing on an emulator? Which version of the game? Have you maybe inverted save names between DX to LA?
