Pushing this because I like the idea of Andrew.
Tood and I have also been talking about this kind of category since it would actually be something like Any% and you could try to find an optimal route.
Maybe call it "Any% (50 Stars)" or just "Any%".
We both would be willing to route and run this!

This is a ~72 hours long marathon by our small group SlowRunsLive and a few other people. The whole thing will be in german and will feature speedruns, races, mystery game races and a few special events.
Don't worry about the spammed submissions, sometimes websites malfunction.
I added a line to the rules that signifies that only submissions with videos will get accepted. I just don't see a reason to have runs on a leaderboard without any proof.
You can still run the game and if you want your run to appear on the leaderboard you could use a webcam or something like that if a capture card is too expensive. You can get pretty decent quality with webcams nowadays.
I just don't see a reason for a 100% category. That is also why I changed 100% to All Minigames in the first place If you really want to do a 100% run, you could just do All Minigames on Hard. There is just not enough of a difference to justify a 5th category. CPUs are bad on all difficulties.
Any% on Hard is completely different from Any% on Basic because you can lose on purpose to advance. That saves a lot of time in some minigames. The same goes for All Minigames.
I think there are two possible (and also reasonable) ways to approach this:
-
We add a rule to All Minigames - you have to be first in every minigame, no matter the difficulty.
-
We let things be like they are right now.
I am in favour of option 2.
Thanks for testing this. Old 3DS game usually load at the same speed on both systems but by using NTR you can make New3DS the faster system. Since New3DS is faster even without NTR it is pretty safe to assume that there will be no difference between running on New3DS with NTR and without.
Since speedrun.com has a variable for emulators I don't see a problem with using them. Emulators are hidden by default so you need to change the filters for them to appear but feel free to submit runs.
As for categories: Thanks for your input. I changed some rules/categoriey already.
I guess I could add individual level categories (e.g. runs of only one world). Will do that later.
Update on Sticker Star: I did a lot of runs in the last two weeks and I have always been able to beat my estimate. I also managed to improve the world record by a minute. The new route and all the safe strategies make the run way faster and 100% safe which means I could show off a lot of entertaining and interesting things in this game at ESA17 while doing the run.
Here is my new record:
I think we are supposed to post our progress on our games here so I'll just do that, now: Thanks to getting past the first cuts, I got motivated to completely reroute Sticker Star. The new route is finally done after 2 weeks of hard work and can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LK-a9xZX2IeUisdWWGfqfoZ1LDb_Z-tFLorvAcHZ-vE We found a lot of faster and safer strats to deal with enemies and bosses. If you are interested, here is a video of the new final boss strat (we already changed it again): As you can see in the video I even wasted time on purpose to show how much faster the strategy is, now. Of course, this is only the theoretical part. Now, I need to do some runs to practice the new route and to improve my personal best.
If this is the wrong place to post this kinda stuff, just tell me and I'll gladly remove this post.
That seems like it could be useful, thanks. Also, you might wanna join the paper mario speedrunning discord server: https://discord.gg/fQNdgay
Just a quick question: Will it affect our chances of getting into the marathon if we only stream in another lanuage than english? I included an english showcase video in my submission but I would like to know if it would be better to stream in english for the next time.
Oh, my bad, I meant letters not words.
