Oh, I agree, the early game is my least favorite part of the run, but I was just trying to think of shorter alternate runs that could be done

CanadaRed5rainbow1 year ago

I just attempted it but it's been patched out, LMAO

maybe if I get a physical copy

This would be a much shorter run than the full game run and it could be quite fun for people who want to start speedrunning Ever Oasis. The opportunity to crash the game is pretty early on, I bet this could easily be done in sub 3 hours if starting from a new save file.

The 3DS eshop release of ecco the dolphin has super dolphin mode, shouldn’t that be a category? And shouldn’t the 3DS be listed as a platform? I was thinking of running this game but since I’m a wimp I don’t think I’d want to run it without super dolphin mode.

I’m trying to speedrun Ever Oasis and it’s really long. To be fair, I haven’t seen anyone else run it and I don’t think I’ve worked on it too much (I have over 100 hours of gameplay according to my 3DS) but, so far, I’ve only managed to get it down to under 11 hours. I also don’t time it most of the time I play because I’m just practicing.

I would think you’d want to use real time unless it specifies to use the in-game timer in the runs rules.

If you’re just recording your screen I highly reccommend to make the room as dark as possible and have the brightness up

CanadaRed5rainbow6 years ago

Yeah, just using your phone will be good enough. My advice though is that if you are gonna use your phone to record make the room dark and the screen bright and the video will look better.

@Novaeu the game Color Theory looks interesting to me, I might try running that.

Edit: sorry for double posting

Might not be what you’re looking for because no one has run it yet but I’ve recently been practicing running through the game Ever Oasis (on the 3DS) and I would be absolutely thrilled if someone else were to try running it! It’s a pretty long game though; the average time needed to complete the game is 22 hours

I feel like I almost doomed myself to lonliness by picking this game though, it’s long, came out over a year ago, and even at it’s peak there was never much hype for it, but it’s a game I love and it has a beautiful aesthetic and I want to express that love somehow

Very long games and games that use a lot of rng that could mess you up if you get bad rng

I know that in the mario galaxy games it’s possible to jump really high if you time your jump with a platform popping out of the ground. The platform quickly popping out of the ground pushed you up and when you add a jump into that you jump way up into the air.

I would LOVE a web based splits timer as I’d much rather time things on my phone than my computer! As for logging in the app I’d say any of those log in options you suggested would probably good. I would probably go for google though just because more people have that. Also I can’t watch your video for some reason, I think it’s broken. But I totally love this idea and am really looking forward to being able to use this!

Oh yes that is the right game NihilistComedyHour! That was one of the places I was thinking of ending the timer when it changes the camera to show the final hit of the boss. I was also thinking of when Esna starts talking to the player just a few seconds later though. But now that I’m watching that I’m realizing there is a pretty obvious camera change when it shows you the final hit of the boss so I think you’re right and I should end the timer as soon as that happens. Thank you so much for helping!

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you

Usually emulators aren’t allowed in the same main speedrunning category as a non-emulator run. It might be allowed in a different category but I don’t know. I doubt too many games will put in a whole seperate category just for emulators.

I agree with most of what people here said but also make sure that all numbers are staying consistent (such as coins) and if someone were to have a speedrun that only shows part of the screen and is missing a piece of information that could be used to tell if it’s spliced or not that’s also suspicious (like what TheGreatToddman said about audio). Any inconsistencies in anything usually means a spliced run.

I’m trying to speedrun a game that I haven’t seen anyone speedrun before (Ever Oasis is the game in case you’re wondering) how should I go about timing it? I’m thinking the timer starts when you select yes to begin your adventure but I’m not sure when to end the timer. The timer could end when you make the final hit to the chaos dragon (in this game it gives you a cool effect when the boss dies, I’m thinking when that effect shows up so you know you beat it) but I’m afraid that might be a bit hard to time correctly. I found a point in the game just a couple seconds later where a textbox pops up, I’m thinking maybe I should end the timer at this textbox instead? (if you’re wondering what I’m talking about I’m talking about Esnas textbox when she talks to the player. It shows up as a normal in game textbox rather than cutscene dialogue) It’ll probably be easier to time and mashing through that one last textbox is technically the final inputs you give the game. But in that case should I find a point to end the timer after this textbox? This is probably gonna end up having a really obvious answer but I just wanna make sure I don’t mess up.
