You don't have to do anything other than submit. Once your oldest submission reaches the bottom of the queue we'll usually look if you have any other submission in the same category, then try to verify both at the same time.
This isn't spliced, it's a capture card hiccup. Everything, the coin rotation, the level timer and the bell animation lose the same amount of frames, everything is where it's supposed to be. Also this would be like the weirdest place to splice ever, you'd want to splice during fadeouts or something like that, not while doing actual gameplay.
I haven't tried it myself because I wouldn't run the game with joycons anyway, but I heard people talking about how they find it easier cause the buttons are so close together.
And yeah, there is more to it. First of all, you want to press X before Y+B (I assume you actually know that). The inputs are pretty much frame perfect (we can say how big the window truly is when we have a TAS). You're position matters, it's easier when you put just a little bit of distance between Mario and the wall. In general wall clipping is a lot easier on slopes. Study the setup of top runners like Vallu or Samura1man who are quite consistent, copy it and train your muscle memory. You always want to see the golden sparkles to confirm that you actually performed a roll that you can cancel. If you bonk, you're inputs are too slow. A lot of runners also prefer to delay their inputs after the ground pound. You can try the inverted pyramid first cause it's a lot easier to clip into, if you get consistent there switch back to the Sphynx.
What do you mean by 'We don't need 2P mode to get 0 jumps'?
This game has only been out for 2 months and I've seen top runners throwing in new strats and jumping seqences that save like half a second quite regularly. I think it's safe to assume that 01:03 will be possible at some point in the future. Everything below that is major skips.
Yeah, we've known about this for quite a while. Check out the forums for the Super Mario Odyssey Category Extensions:
As this category is so heavily inspired by Gamechamp3k's video I think the 2P switch should be forced. The initial question was 'Can you beat SMO without jumping' so timer should stop after the escape sequence. Verification is necessary just like in the World Peace category.
Doing the whole run in 2P mode takes a lot away from the challenge, so I don't think we need seperate leaderboards for this particular category.
You wouldn't have prove that you're doing the controls all by yourself. Apart from that, I highly doubt you would gain any advantage.
Is it safe to assume that the ruleset will look like this? That rule that allows you to switch to 2P mode somewhat goes against the sense of speedrunning - why would you do that when in fact you are allowed to jump anyway? It would make more sense to seperate leaderboards or force the short switch to 2P.
Yeah you're right about that, just did some testing and it also seems pretty easy to get consistent at it.
So, just to make sure, the only jumps that increment the counter are the ones Gamechamp3000 mentions in his Youtube video? That would mean wall jumps and jumps as any capture are allowed.
I haven't watched Zinpars' run, but basically following the any% route for this was my idea as well. Some have to be replaced for sure as they're impossible to get without jumping. An ideal route would definitely include moons that require talking to NPCs which is quite risky, like buying those moons in Snow and Wooded. You could loose an otherwise flawless run by messing up that single trick and you probably don't even get to know until you speak to Toadette. To me this category sounds quite interesting and I might submit a run in the future.
You're probably roll canceling too slowly. You have to roll your thumb over XYB like really fast. I also found that I'm more successful at performing the clip if I hold unto the B button instead of releasing it, but that may just be me.
Once you get some clips it's a matter of practicing and muscle memory. This trick is one of the more difficult ones in the run and it only saves like 6-7 seconds, so I don't think it's worth the effort of learning it as long as you're not like a top tier runner (sub 70 minute PB).
