One of the exception to that rule mentioned by @Ihavenoname248 are certain PC Games like the source engine games (Half-Life and Portal) that use demo recording and can therefore time those demos for in-game time rather than relying on a RTC like for example a Pokemon game would have.

I also would like to mention that usually RTA runs are done in a single sitting, so leaving to attend an emergency and coming back later would make your run segmented, which usually isn't a thing on here for humanly possible length runs, unless you kept the timer (in this case I'm guessing that'd be the ingame timer?) going and did not mess with it at all.

For exceptionally long runs (as in multiple days) some people like to have two RTA timers, one keeping track of the entire time and another that may be paused in-between to compare for how much of the total time was active playtime. Note that in any case only the total time (so the timer that never gets paused) is valid for the submission.

Every single game on this site has a forum by default. I double checked all the Madden games google found (the site search isn't responding right now due to high demand) and found no exception to that rule.

Adding file modification time after the filenames like profile_pic.jpg?_=1550781030 for profile pictures, custom badges and maybe theme backgrounds would help a lot. People getting confused about their browsers loading old pictures from cache is a really common thread.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon deserves a mention in this thread! YuGiOh Dungeon Dice Monsters has a few really nice tracks as well Shatter's OST is so good, I'm not sure if I spent more time playing the game (I played it a lot in the past) or listening to the OST Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Video Game Soundtrack by Anamanaguchi is basically cheating but whatever :'3

EDIT: Checking my music folder Black Mesa (the fan remake) has a few really nice tracks as well

editing a run always requires re-verification, yes. It's done to prevent people getting runs verified and then changing relevant information to appear better than what was verified.

This forum really needs a search other than pressing ctrl+f at some point, judging by the amount of "is the NES Classic an emulator" (and similar for other emulation hardware) threads :|

you need to set the correct settings in the properties of the source in OBS or the gv-usb2 won't be able to understand the signal. For example mine is set to PAL60, so it doesn't pick up the Gamecube booting (which is in PAL50), but will work fine once I've selected 60hz mode during the game boot up process.

GermanyMitsunee5 years ago

unless you have a display that support over 60hz, anything above 60fps that isn't a factor of 60 will cause more issues than good and even with factors of 60 you'd often still get screen tearing instead of any real advantage. The difference between 1/60 and 1/61 isn't even a millisecond btw, so a fluctuation that tiny will literally do nothing at all. For some games that isn't even a single gametick, so reacting faster, even if it's by less than a millisecond will make no difference at all.

Edit: of course there are special cases of engines that run smoother without v-sync and just happen to go well beyond 60fps on anything from the current decade.

I think the PS3 is actually the only one I've heard not working with elgato's HD60 series of capture cards. On reddit they recommended getting a component cable + splitters for that and a component->hdmi converter for the capture. That of course depends on your flatscreen/TV actually supporting component as well of course. Not sure if HDMI->component would also work, HDMI splitters apparently work, but idk if you own a component capture card or even which one to recommend for that as I only have composite (gv-usb2) and HDMI (elgato HD60 pro) capture cards.

it won't happen because the last theme update idea was removing backgrounds in favor of banners

my hands are long enough to where I can use the (mostly) unused Pause key on my keyboard for splitting while still being in range of the A button on an NDS or 3DS laying infront of the keyboard. With consoles that's obviously easier, because I'd be holding a controller pretty much 99% of the time, which I can do above a keyboard. I don't really see where the problem is, especially because you may find a closer key that works for you, my setup aims to avoid conflicts with twitch chat being the currently active window.

Not to mention that splits should be planned to happen at a spot with minimal game inputs so you have time to move one hand to your split button for a second. Stuff like loading screens or fade-outs like after a Pokemon battle are optimal for this.

I'm interested in attempting runs again. I previously gave up because I kept dying to random stuff before even getting to chapter 7 and I remember using a different flaw in my ancient route I made back when I first played this game. Is there a different flaw that could maybe make the early game less of a reset fest or is Defense the only option for the Dark Flier route (I used Dark Knight back then because I didn't know about Galeforce yet)

I got an Elgato HD60 Pro for capturing my switch, which also includes HDMI Passthrough, so I can play on an HDMI monitor without any lag. There's also the HD60S that doesn't require opening your PC to install a PCI-E card as it's a USB device instead, but I don't know if that comes with an internal splitter like that. The capture in OBS (added the card as Video Capture Device bypassing the HD Capture Software) looks about a second delayed to me, so likely not very playable without a splitter.

Note that if you happen to still be on Windows 7 you'll need to find the older version of the HD Capture Software and drivers (should be on the same page mentioned in the instruction booklet) and may also need a patch for it (I found the one for the HD60 Pro on reddit, posted by someone who works at Elgato and was marked as such by the subreddit moderators).

afaik the PS Classic is quite literally an ARM chip executing the ARM-version of a popular playstation emulator, so it's literally the same as loading that emulator onto a raspberry pi. Same goes for Nintendo's mini-consoles as well (different emulators ofc).

that depends entirely on what types of connections the TV supports. Composite capture cards will obviously use Composite (Red/white for audio, Yellow for Video), while older and newer standards exist (for Gamecube and Wii Era component is very interesting to look into, as it has better video quality) and either need a seperate capture device or converter (might introduce extra lag!)

If I'm not mistaken that game exists only on Wii, which does not have accurate emulation as of yet, which is why it makes sense to hide emulator runs or maybe even not accept them at all (I've seen plenty of Gamecube games that refuse emulator altogether and Gamecube's emulation is slightly ahead of Wii). As for your runs, I don't see any, neither on your profile nor on the leaderboards (link for reference https://www.speedrun.com/krtdl#Any ) so I can't help any more with that right now.

The Twitch affiliate/partner badges are based on the sub badges you've submitted on twitch. They might take a bit to show up on speedrun.com. When they are available you can swap between your tiers here: https://www.speedrun.com/speedrunningiscool/editprofile
