But why?

1. Would reduce the amount of wasted time due to removing the necessity of driving an extra lap every time you want to set a time. Would also remove the issue of some of the finish lines being so close to the first corner, eliminating the decision of you either not braking and ruining the next lap or braking and ruining the current lap.

2. Would separate the speedrun.com leaderboards from the official ones.

3. Would remove some of the cheese strats available. (Doesn't mean cuts or shortcuts but off-course drag strips :P )

4. Would open up the meta for some tracks, due to the top speed not being a criteria - as it currently is for some tracks.

5. Doesn't make the running start records obsolete, just complements them. The same video can be used for both categories.
