So far only the NES version (aka. Hydlide Special) has been run on here, but what about the other releases of the game? The original PC-98 version released on Switch last month, for example and has entirely different dungeon maps for example.
Not sure if it's a fair comparison if it's all in one leaderboard but also not sure if others are also interested in running the pre-NES/FC versions for PC-98, MSX2 and so forth.
The 2001 Windows version seems faster than the NES version even.
We realize this isn't exactly an active game for speedrunning but since it's a childhood classic for us and we just started running it we wanted to bring this up regardless.
Our runs so far have been on the fan-patched "Extended Cut" version of the game, but as we compared to the runs done on GOG we noticed there's some differences between them. For example, when you have to do the star puzzle in the igloo, the GOG version allows you to just enter the igloo without getting the puzzle pieces first, the Extended Cut doesn't as it's been "fixed" which obviously adds a couple of clicks to the route.
So we had planned on just switching to the GOG version, but it practically runs in slow motion. The puzzle early in the game with the levers that control the sun, moon and planet was so laggy that it was unplayable for speedrun purposes.
Basically, our reason for making this thread is to ask if people know of a way to "unpatch" fixes like this for the Extended Cut so that it's back on par with the GOG version, or if there's any tips on making the GOG version run smoother?
Hey there. As we're sure a lot of you already know the PS1/Saturn version of MechWarrior 2, titled the Arcade Combat Edition, featured unique missions - including four short campaigns unavailable on the MW2 DOS games; Wolf's Dragoons, Freebirth Trials, Crusader Trials and Inner Sphere Trials.
Was wondering if it'd be possible to add MW2 ACE as either its own game, since it's kind of distinct in the same way was MechWarrior on SNES is, or at least add categories for the console campaigns to MW2's categories?
We realize not a lot of people play these, let alone run them, but we've started routing them and hoped that maybe more people will check them out if they get categories here.
Here's a full list of the Jurassic: The Hunted version differences which should clarify why the leaderboards have been split up the way they are. The HD Version is the baseline version, but I will list the unique aspects of it as well.

Top Shot: Dinosaur Hunter is a 2010 rerelease of Jurassic: The Hunted for Wii. The version is identical to the 2009 release with the exception of a new HUD layout and a shooting gallery mode. The game also came with a Top Shot rifle accessory for the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. These two versions can be played interchangeably.
You might think that because of the shorter levels and fewer enemy types the PS2 version would be the fastest. But loading times often reach half a minute, the weapon placement means you'll have less powerful weapons during the "hold the fort" sections and the game also runs really slow and often hits framerate issues if you have more than 3 enemies alive on screen. It's by far the slowest versions.
I was trying to learn speedrunning Dino Stalker on PCSX2 and did all the setup the guide told me to do. I fixed the flashing issue, fixed the FMV issue, but the game keeps crashing seemingly at random, primarily when it's about to load a cutscene but sometimes just during gameplay as well.
I tried to see if this was a common issue but nowhere I'm checking mentions this being a problem people seem to have, it also doesn't happen for other games I run on PCSX2.
I know this game isn't very active but since there have been replies and threads in the past few months I figured asking was worth it. I could play the game on my PS2 but I can't currently capture footage from that, hence why I opted for emulator and I also didn't want to be confined to the PAL release at 50Hz.
I realize this game is fairly dead and doesn't even have submitted runs at the moment. But I'm currently learning to run the game and I feel like there should be leaderboards for single level runs since that's what I'm currently doing to track my progress and where I can improve, as I've yet to actually finish a full run that I felt worth recording to the end.
The levels are: Code: Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot Far From Shore, Far From Home Sinking Feeling Vortex Zero Out of the Frying Pan The Lost Castaways Rise Above The Tyrant King U-1226 Special Delivery Enter: "Spike" Escaping Extinction The Final Piece No Time Like the Present
The only other runner I know of this game also uses these levels as splits.
