Pause Buffer glitch found.

Hello, it's been a while!

So I was digging through the game's memory to find some damage values, when I stumbled upon a wild glitch. Apparently pausing the game during an attack hit, will cause the next frame of that same attack to hit again. This has major implications with the most obvious being, tons of more damage.

While I am all for glitches that may help runners cut down time. I'm hesitant about this one since it requires spamming the pause menu during a stage. To me this might take away from the run experience where now a big chunk of the run might get flooded with pausing menus. I made a video tutorial showcasing and explaining this glitch. I would also like to hear others opinions about this, whether or not to allow this glitch or not, or to create a glitchless category.

Really interesting find considering that this was a game where there wasn't anything particularly gamebreaking.

So, I've discussed this with Mike earlier. Just to make it clear if it wasn't clear by the video. This also works on Partner attacks that generate tension and all deathblows, which pretty much means that if the glitch was legal, there will be a sure use for this for both stages and bosses. Some additional noteworthy applications include knocking back enemies that wouldn't normally be knocked back by a single attack and instantly killing bosses with a single deathblow.

For any RTA categories, I can see that there's a tradeoff in time if you're spending time pause buffering. For any IGT category, there is simply no punishment for abusing this glitch. This has the implications of making everything RTA, which then means that emulators will for sure be banned (which could shy away potential runners).

It's not unheard of for a speedrunning game to have uses for pause buffering or pause glitches. From a spectator or player's perspective, it'll be more interesting if it instead enable more technical mechanics or precise setups (ex: OoT or Sonic infinite jumps), but I don't really see it for this game. I wish that the glitch that had more limited applications so that it's more fair to use in runs like only using it for strictly bosses, but you can't half allow and disallow the use the glitch for only certain circumstances.

At least for me as it stands, I think it takes away the core combat appeal and a part of the difficulty that the game offers. **My personal opinion is to ban the glitch for use for existing categories. If there is a runner that wants to use this incorporate this glitch into their runs, then existing runs will need to be renamed to Glitchless and a new category will need to be created. **That'll probably be the fairest option to all parties.
