All Coins General Guide

(I'll be referring to powerups as their SMB equivalents here for consistency) 

Make sure that you collect a mushroom at the start of 1-1. Mushrooms are extremely helpful in All Coins compared to Any% in which they are avoided entirely. The reason for this is due to Super Bernie's much larger hitbox than small Bernie, allowing you to collect many blocks of coins a lot easier. You can lose the mushroom in 4+1 for the damage boost segment, and I don't know if its faster to grab another one in 4-2 or just leave it. 

Take care on 4-2. This level is a pain in Any% and even worse here. On the first large gap leap of faith about a third of the way through, make sure you collect every single coin. If you miss one, then too bad, you'll have to restart or kill yourself. And please remember to collect all the hidden coins here, because again if you miss one and jump down you can't get back up.

Cutscene Skip

All cutscenes (interactions with a senator) can be bypassed quickest by spamming back on your control pad whilst rapidly mashing the d-pad or control stick from side to side. This, for some reason, is the fastest way to skip their dialogue, and can save about a second or two, which is worth the minimal effort. There is a new cutscene at the start of every new world, as well as at the start of the game.

Fast 1-2

NOTE: In my personal experience I've been able to do this trick much more consistently once I got a 75hz monitor with a 1ms response time (for reference my old monitor was 60hz with a 16ms response time)

Instead of waiting for the three pipe men to go into their pipes or grabbing the invincibility powerup, make sure to jump right before the little bush next to the first pipe, and immediately jump when you reach the very first few pixels of the second pipe man. Jump again once you land so you hit the ceiling of a floating platform, avoiding the Koopa. Make sure to do a very long jump when jumping across a gap so that you don't hit the next Koopa. Then do another very long jump to avoid the goomba before the staircase.

Fast 2-2

About two thirds of the way through 2-2, you'll encounter a part in which there's a pipeman that blocks your progress. There are three things you can do in this situation:

1) Wait for the pipeman to go down so you don't get hit. This takes about 3-5 seconds (ish) and I'd highly recommend avoiding this method.

2) Slowly line up so you're stood on the first few pixels of the pipe where you don't take any damage, and jump over the pipeman. This takes a bit to get the line up, however is still faster than option 1. However, there is a third option, also known as "Fast 2-2" or "2-2 Jump" which is easily the fastest option, despite being very difficult.

3) Jump over the pipeman entirely without slowing down. This can be accomplished in two ways. Firstly, you can jump just as you hit the patch of dirt I've circled in red on this screenshot - https://ibb.co/k01ChKv - and then as soon as you land behind the goomba, jump again. This works around 60% of the time for me, and is a pretty precise lineup that is similar to the 1-2 jump in execution. 

Alternatively, you can try what I find to be the easier method, lining up a super jump. To do this, run right up to the goomba at full speed, and just as you are about to hit him, press A and then Y (this version of the trick is gamepad only) in quick succession. If done properly, you'll hear the jump sound effect play twice rapidly, and you'll gain enough height to make it over the pipeman and the gap behind him. However, the timing on this trick is very strict, and requires you to press Y a bit after you press A, not at the same time, so it may be better going for the first version of the jump if you can't hit it consistently.

Fast Flamethrower Cycles (Pennsylvania and Illinois)

One thing that Pennsylvania (world 2 level 1) and Illinois (world 3 level 1) have in common is that they have an area where enemies with an AI similar to the hammer bro from Super Mario Bros will throw torches and jump around on a set of two floating platforms.

In Pennsylvania, there will be a staircase seemingly identical to the staircases before the end of most levels, but the level will not end here. Fall off this first staircase without jumping, and without hesitation, continue running, and run on the grass under the platforms. If you did not hesitate, the flamethrowers should be jumping on the second platform, with their torches high in the air. Do not jump onto the second platform, you will be hit by the flamethrowers or their torches.

In Illinois, you'll eventually come to a tiny staircase followed by three platforms with paratroopas in between them, which you can easily clear. This is a zero hesitation situation, so do not let go of the run button, keep holding the joystick towards the right, and as soon as you see floating purple bricks, jump on them. If you correctly avoided hesitation, the flamethrowers should be on the grass and their torches should be high in the air, with you in the middle. Do not continue to run on the grass like in Pennsylvania or you will get hit or fall to your death. An easier way to do this is to jump onto the purple bricks, but immediately turn around and jump onto the highest platform.

Additionally, you will encounter one other flamethrower towards the end of Illinois after a tiny staircase leads to two narrowly spaced out floating platforms. The trick here is once again zero hesitation. Keep running don't jump, and the flamethrower will jump over you. There will also be a flamethrower in Kentucky, which you can easily avoid by not hesitating and going either under or over the platform.

Fast Koopa Cycle Kentucky

Fast Koopa Cycle (1-3 Kentucky)

In Kentucky (world 1 level 3) you will eventually come to three floating platforms with Koopas on them. These platforms are wide, so you can easily avoid the Koopas while jumping on the platforms. Then, you will come to a midway point between those three platforms and the area where the strategy is performed. This midway point is marked with a powerup box. Do not collect the powerup. Try not to even hit it. After this midway point, there will be three pillars with Koopas on them. These pillars are very narrow so it is difficult to not avoid the Koopas while jumping on the platforms. The trick here, as it is in many Bernie World strategies, is zero hesitation. Once you hit the midway point, do not stop running, do not hesitate, just jump and aim for the right of the first platform. If you do not hesitate, the Koopa should be at the left side of the pillar. Again, do not hesitate or the Koopa will turn around and hit you. Immediately jump to the right half of the next pillar, where the Koopa should once again be on the left half of the pillar. Without hesitation, jump all the way over the final pillar (you may hit the lowered wall, so be sure to be holding down the joystick to the right) and you will have passed the Koopa Pillars and you will have done the Fast Koopa Cycle.

Faster Level Loading

Normally, when playing the game and loading the next level after getting on the bus, you will see a black screen, then a white, pixellated message saying "World <level number> <level name> Start!". You can mash buttons rapidly to skip this message, however this often results in a strange occurrence in which the game loads the next level, but does not allow you to progress, before the screen reloads and you can go. This is still a time save compared to the normal loading, however a much more efficient process is easily available:

After completing a level, and as the bus takes Bernie off screen, hold your right analog stick in any direction (I believe this only works on a gamepad). If you get the trick correctly, you'll not only completely skip the level text, but you'll also cleanly fade into the next level, saving the maximum amount of time possible.

Faster, Easier Cutscene Skip

Skipping cutscenes in SBW is vital and can be done in two ways: the rapid mashing method that has been previously detailed in this guides section, or the alternate method which requires fewer button presses, is much nicer on your hands, is usually faster, however is much more difficult in terms of timing:

To do the alternate skip, you need to hold down the "back" button on your gamepad (this skip can only be done with a gamepad) and, almost instantly after, flick your analog stick in any direction. Make sure to only flick the analog stick AFTER you press back, or otherwise you will get a normal speed cutscene in which you lose a significant amount of time.

Go out of the world

1.You have to be big!
2.Then you have to jump and press down.
3.Now you are on the block and you have to go to the middle.
4.You have to press down, jump and left or right to the middle!
5.Then you have to release the down button and jump nearly by the same moment.
6.Now you are out of the world just go to the left and then you are at the and of the level.
7.I think it saves some secounds.
8HAVE FUN!!!!!

Late Jump (Florida)

In Florida (world 4 level 1) you will eventually jump up onto a high raised land formation with two goombas followed by a cliff with a pit of DEATH (lol). Try not to jump off the cliff until you get to the very last few pixels of the cliff, so that you go far enough to jump onto the powerup box that's placed very high in the air. Once you land on it, immediately jump and you will jump over both pipe men. If you fail this strategy, go directly against the first pipe, jump up, and briefly hold right on the joystick so Bernie is standing just one or two pixels away from the pipe man's hitbox. Then, turn around jump up onto the powerup box. This saves more time than waiting for the pipe men to go back in the pipe but is also a riskier backup strat.

The frame rule

In some older games there's a timing quirk known as the frame rule. It's a big deal in Super Mario Bros. speedruns! Eniko (our beloved programmer) included them in Super Bernie World as a joke, expecting that it would never affect anything. Then we crazy speedrunners came along. :)

Here's how it works: At the end of each level with a flag (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 3-2, 4-1, and 4-2) there's a frame counter running in the game, that tracks what frame you are on from 0 to 21 and then resets. The bus can only drive away with Bernie (and start the level transition process) on frame 21. This means that if you arrive at frame 0, you'll have to wait an additional 20 frames (or 1/3 of a second) before the bus starts driving. If you can find a way to arrive at the flag one frame faster, you'll save that much time.

So, this really only impacts runners who are pushing the limits of how fast Bernie can go. For those runners, there's two things you can do to squeeze out a few extra frames.

1) Minimize your score. The score countdown at the end is very fast, but if you collect fewer coins, hit fewer enemies, and grab lower on the flag, you'll save a small amount of time.

2) Turn off vertical sync. This one is pretty complicated, but turning off vsync will subtly change the game timing and can sometimes save you a frame or two. This isn't without consequences, however. You'll find that it changes your jump timing and jump arcs, and more importantly will lead to occasional dropped inputs. Runner beware!

To disable vertical sync, you need to pass the command line argument "-novsync" to the game. In Steam, you need to put that command (without quotes) into the launch options in the game properties. I'm not sure if the itch launcher includes a similar option, but give a shout in the SBW discord if you can't figure it out and we'll try to help. (There's an alternate method you can use in your graphics card settings to force vsync off, but I found it to be pretty inconsistent.)
