Changes and Suggestions

Hey everyone. This thread is going to be used both for informing the community about changes to the leaderboard and for making suggestions to the moderators.

As promised, we have went ahead and radically redid the board. There are now seven categories: High Score, Any%, SMB+RR Any%, SMB%, Rad Racer%, Rad Racer+Tetris High Score, and Rad Racer+Tetris Any%. The latter three are in the miscellaneous category. These categories were chosen after the discussions we had in the other thread yesterday, but if anyone would like to suggest a new one or an edit to an existing one, please do.

Timing methods have also been decided upon for each and every category. Please do check them out and say something here if you have feedback on them. We intend on retiming existing runs to fit these new rules, but not without first getting community approval as to their implementation.

We also added the background made by @Bro3256. Big thanks to them.

By the way, the number of mods is still being discussed. You may have gotten a notification about a new mod - that was one of the original mods who was take off accidentally. I’ll come back to you with news about this when we finalize it, but we’re working to find a solution to please everyone.

Alright, keeping in mind timezones and people’s obligations, I’ll take the silence as approval and start retiming runs in a couple hours, to be finished by the end of the day EST.

Hey, everyone, I have an update on the mod situation. While I won't name names just yet for the sake of privacy and a potentially changing situation, two moderators have agreed to step down. We have considered taking this and demoting a number of current moderators to just verifiers, leaving us with three or so mods and two verifiers, if that solution is acceptable to the moderators and the community. Of course, this is just an idea and we may end up with less moderators total in the end, depending on how further discussions pan out.

As I understand it, this is the last major grievance people had with the board. We've come a long way in a short amount of time. Of course, if anyone has anything to add, feel free to do so.

It looks like things are calming down, which is great. If you do need the help, I'm willing to be a mod or at the very least, part of the discussion about categories, timing etc. Starting a new board with unforeseen growth is challenging. I did try to get this game on SRC a bunch of months ago and it was rejected for being "fragments of a game" and not a full title, but I'm glad to see it here now.

I suggested to @Skeeter that you deserve to be a mod because you suggested this game and it got denied.

I wouldn't say I "deserve" it but I am definitely willing to help. JSR and Aries and others are treating me like a speedrun ambassador so I might as well play the part :p

If you'd like to be a moderator, say the word and we'd be happy to have you. Mod or not, we certainly would appreciate your advice for us and for the community. The overall discussion on the number of mods has stalled somewhat, though you may have notice one has resigned, thank you to them for their time here, but I'm very sure everyone in the community would be willing to make an exception for you if you're willing.

Sure, I'm down to help. This game is going to be in one of my Chardcore 20 events so hopefully we can bring more runs to the board since it's a special piece of NES history.

Consider yourself modded, then.

I've been looking through discussions happening around this board and I just wanted to offer advice to mods that haven't had previous experience - SRC has a good page discussing what being a mod entails and how to carry on - if you aren't familiar with these rules, read through it thoroughly. In fact, I still refer back to these rules just to stay fresh and make sure I'm following the guidelines:
