Alright everyone the day has come for the first wipe of the leaderboards. A new giant update has changed almost everything about speedrunning this game.
- (THIS WILL NOT BE THE LAST ONE) Either when a new huge update or until when the full game gets released the leaderboard will be reset again.
The goal with this reset is to get everyone back on the boards. I would like to see anyone any everyone at least try one new category and the goal is to get 51 new runs to get a total of 100 total runs for this game. If anyone has any questions leave a comment please and if your confused on any runs soon i will release full video guides on how to complete the longer categories.
This is utterly stupid yes i stopped doing this, but i still did stuff now you have deleted the speedruns and called it a wipe, never heard of that before. Worst of all you are declining runs because it's the old version who cares if the game is updated, maybe there are new strats now but there wasn't any strats that have been taken out of the game as of research. Then there is not even a burg.l any% run i now regret making you a mod just so i didn't have to deal with this community, but im done with this now and i am giving up mod. You have completely ruined the whole speedrunning community for the game. If you ever feel like giving up or deleting this or something like that just make me a mod and msg me and i'll take back over but im not gonna even bother when you have completely fucked up everything fucking 9-year-old kys report this msg coz you probably will bc your salty anyways have fun with this dying community good luck on your goal. Only reason i even came back here was because my friend just wanted to do an any% burg.l run but there isnt even that. kys
archiving the runs somewhere else on the board would have been a much better approach, but yeah this response isnt cool. i do agree with knightyy in a way though, zero has just kinda been doing whatever he wants ever since being modded, which is very bad for the board and community overall (ignoring requests like my own, verifying his own runs that break the game rules as they are currently written).
Fair enough. This is the first game I've used Speedrun.com for and I'm a relative newcomer compared to you lot so I didn't really have an opinion on the situation.
I think archiving all the runs from previous versions is a great idea though, some of those Burg.L% runs were quite old and it's a bit sad to see them just gone, plus it snapshots the different strats used throughout the game's development.
I thought less categories would be better as there wouldn't be a load of obscure categories that only one person is running, however maybe more is better. If there's only 5 categories and someone isn't interested in any of them then they're not gonna submit anything, but if there is a lesser run category they do like, maybe just because they're on the site for that one they'd be more inclined to try some others too, and if not it's still more activity than without them. Adding each difficulty and any%/glitchless to each category even though we're not at 1.0 yet could be a good idea too if it gets more people playing.
And to be fair to Zero, he posted a week ago that the refresh would be happening and no one replied. So with no one to tell him they didn't like the idea, I guess he was just gonna go ahead with it right?
I really don't know what to say lol. For one this game isn't even fully out yet so doing a runs on any old version is just stupid. There has been so much new content that the game is a completely different game each and every update. If you think i deleted runs for my personal benefit your wrong. I have put the most hours out of anyone in this community making routes and grinding runs and i wiped my own runs. I did not wipe runs because i wanted the community to die but like come on your gonna sit there any tell me that this games speedruns have not changed since the game came out. I literally told you chewy that i didnt want to add sub categories to broodmother until the wipe. if you want me to add more categories i would be down and it would help grow the community i hope. And to knightyy man i really dont know what to say. this is the first time you have interacted with the community or done anything since you gave me mod. I have tried adding you on discord before. Not only have i done everything with this site but i have done soooo many runs. you haven't even done a run in a year. The only discernable argument i get make out of your post was that your mad i got rid of burgl%. Burgl% was the whole story of the game up until this lastest update. if you even played the game anymore you would know that the category is obsolete seeing as they added some more story. The story is the meat of a speedrun you dont see people only speedrunning mario odyssey untill sand kingdom and stopping . Burgl percent was speedrunning until that point and now i have turned the category into more of the story. And as i said this will probably not be the last wipe seeing as the story isnt even finished and the game is not done. If you think that is stupid then all i have to say is you dont really care about the game and you just care about a time you put on the leaderboard a year a go.
burg.l was the most popular category by far, and its very normal to keep legacy runs like that around if people like them, i dont really see why it needs to go away even if its "obsolete". id really recommend adding it back. telling people that dont like the wipe "you dont really care about the game and you just care about a time you put on the leaderboard a year a go" isnt productive at all either, it just shows that you are just doing random things that you want to do without listening to anybody else. the goal is to be as inclusive as possible to make submitting welcoming, telling people things like this does the opposite of that. also you didnt respond to part of my post earlier that said you were "verifying (your) own runs that break the game rules as they are currently written". what was up with that?
1 if people really want burgl% back im fine with doing that you would just have to redo a run on the newest update. also it wouldn't be the main run because its not really the story(or at least all of what we have currently 2 Having the mindset of keeping old runs that have the potential to be out right unbeatable on the leaderboards will kill the game. What i mean by that is if codzta's 4:09 was completely unbeatable on the newest patch that would not be enjoyable to people who dont want to play a old version. and also a hastle if you wanted to beat it yourself. 3 I dont know why your trying to pull a one over on me lol. saying that the glitches break the runs lol. Technically the only category that didnt allow glitches was the burgl% because people were going through the anthill. Only very recently have i been using glitches in newer runs because its for fun and faster. If you dont think glitches should be allowed i got to say you shouldnt speedrun. My thought on a glitch less runs are that they are cool but seeing as the game isnt fully out it wasnt my top priority. If there is a demand for the any% run to have a glitchless i would be fine adding it.
I added a glitches and glitchless to any% and i added mild medium and woah to broodmother assistant manager and wolf spider. Sadly having glitches and glitchless and all the difficultys on one category would clutter it up so glitches will be allowed on those.
Also i cant believe your mad at me for doing glitches in a speedrun im actually so confused
Well heres the last ill say about the glitches They are allowed and they dont only benefit me so stop acting like im am a tyrant for using glitches. Everyone can use glitches and im not hiding them. Im sorry that it said glitches weren't allowed when i didnt even put that there. Im not going to stop using glitches just because you dont like it. If you dont like glitches then i dont think speedrunning is for you.
Also for you to know i wasnt the first to do a glitch in a run it was the guy who beat your broodmother run and he used a different patched out form of the bed glitch to glitch through the haze door. Also i didnt verify that run kknighty did so i guess even though he put that in the rules he still allowed it.
Lastly stop trying to hate on me for every little thing. Literally you just try to point out every thing. If you really cared you would go do some runs but i think you really just want to hate bomb. You havent submited a run in a year. I dont really care i think your criticism is valid but dont die on the hill of no glitches
im not anti glitch, i just think you need to pay more attention to whats going on around you especially when it comes to breaking rules and then changing them while verifying your own runs. telling me "you havent submitted* a run in a year" or "If you dont like glitches then i dont think speedrunning is for you" isnt helpful. im not trying to "hate on you", im trying to help you figure out how to run things in a better way constructively.
My two cents, I think glitched and glitchless speedruns are both as valid as each other. Some people see it as "everything goes, whatever is fastest", and some care more for the integrity of the game, doing it as fast as possible but with intended mechanics. Neither is right or wrong, hence having separate categories so everyone can get involved.
omg im not anti glitch lol, i think its great to have separate categories. the problem was that the rules literally said "no glitches", he ignored that and verified his run which showed he never even read the rules
