It would be better if you gave us a list of games to run and emulators to use (since most of us dont have one) and tips. Why are we going to run gba games if we dont know which ones are good or how to get started

Generally I agree, I'd also like to see more people running GBA games. But a few thoughts on emulator:

  1. Emulator is not accurate (or at least yet). Just skip the next part if you're not too much into technical details (I'm not an expert btw): Some of the popular speedrun GBA titles have special rules regarding emulation. E.g. a BIOS file could be required; or required to show frame count, input or similar; also lag behaves quite differently than on original hardware which can make some games run faster on emulator -> and can cause discussion (splitting leaderboards); glitches might show different behaviour on emulators; and so on...
  2. Make sure you obtain your games/roms in a legal way. Advertising illegal ways is prohibited at src.

@BumcrackOsama I'd recommend to post in the advertisement thread. Seems a lot of ppl look into games there.

Still waiting to have the cash and the right time and place to get a GBP disc, lol.

For emulation, I use BizHawk 2.3.2 with an mGBA 0.7.2 core. It's accurate as far as I can determine.

I'm slowly moving to all hardware; and GBP discs are expensive and hard to come by. Outside of using GBI and outside of having the disc, there isn't really a great way to capture footage from the officially released hardware, which I think makes GBA runs slightly more uncommon. Even the SGB2 is easy to work with for playing any GB/GBC games.

But at least it can be done. DS and Game Gears required modification in order to output a video signal that can be captured. Thus, they are even rarer, and emulators are much more common.

The easiest way to record GBA games would probably just be to buy them on the Wii U eShop, then you can either easily point a camera at the TV screen or use an HDMI capture card. Of course, this is limited to the games available on that system.

Super Mario Advance 2, Sonic Advance 1. Both really good games to speedrun in my thoughts.
