I just really like Cruis'n USA...

Hi. I'm Schmooz, and I like to Cruis. I hadn't any interest in speedrunning until about 14 hours ago when I installed Project64 on my computer. The Nintendo 64 was the first console I ever owned, so I figured it would be a trip down memory lane to spend the night playing some old games from my childhood. Ocarina of Time, Twisted Edge, No Mercy; it was a great time indeed - but one game caught my eye above all else; Cruis'n USA. I don't know why, exactly. I'm not a big fan of driving games. I mean, I think Mario Kart and Need for Speed Carbon are alright, but it's never really been my thing. Cruis'n USA was the most fun I had ever had, and after only a half hour I realized that I had beat the game. I figured I was pretty good, so I made my account, submitted my run, and here we are. I'd love to hear your story of how you got into speedrunning. Please, talk to me.

Welcome and congrats on submitting your first run.

I got into speedrunning because I love Super Mario Land, I have played this Gameboy game as a child and have beaten it casually numerous times. At some point I saw the TAS for that game and that sparked my interest in speedrunning so here I am.

I'm going to have to try Cruisn USA myself now - N64 racing game's surprise me a lot - I know from personal experience that the "ports" Wipeout 64 and Ridge Racer 64 are REALLY surprising (Ridge Racer 64 uses Daytona USA drift physics and is completely different from PS1 Ridge Racer games )

I first got into speedrunning because I joined an open multiplayer lobby in Monaco --- the three other people were speedrunners, and all 3 thought I was a steam-friend of one of the other's so I stayed in that lobby for like 3 hours even though I was casualling it up because we never got to the point where they asked each other who actually knew who I was.

After that I got to do 4 player multiplayer speedruns of Monaco openly and joined the steam groups- I think at most I shared the record on 27 of 41 MP levels even though I only ever got a record on 2 of 41 single player levels.

I still love Vell, Corl Mopo and all the other old Monaco runners

I was introduced by someone to GDQ about two years ago. Before that I didn't new speedrunning was a thing. (In the general sense. I did played some games with leaderboards for fastest times).

At first I wasn't interested, but then I saw some of my favorites games from my childhood being completely destroyed (Rayman, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper). I was completely immersed, and then started watching speedruns of almost all the games I played in the past, and continued watching GDQ and my favorite runners for about 1.5 years, then I decided to give it a go myself. And here I am.
