The NBA, and most other sports organization for that matter, run solely on viewership. It's what makes them professional and distinguishes them from street games. No viewers means no payout. Speedrunning on the other hand, there is no payout, it's people playing games. If the viewers didn't exist, there would still be speedrunners but there would be no NBA if the fans didn't exist.
The overarching difference is that, yes, the community is allowed to disregard your opinion on this matter (that was set aside as a non issue weeks ago) simply based on the fact that you are irrelevant to the game. You won't make a difference by calling out some kid in a street hockey game by telling him he's off side and you won't make a difference calling out someone using amiibo for following the rules set by the community
"'ignorant mods'? Boy howdy, this place went to shit as soon as all the stream monsters moved in and tried to take over. Tell you what, go do a speedrun of literally anything and then I'll tell you how to run your game and actually this metaphor is falling apart because I literally couldn't care less than I do at this moment about your hot take on speedrunning. You're here because you watched AGDQ and felt like a big kid getting to post your opinions here on reddit underneath the accomplishments of actual members of the community. Remember that the thirty seconds you spent formulating your opinion and the idle time you spend browsing twitch is not an equivalent investment into this community and does not give you equal stake as the people who spend their time actually learning/routing/researching/running/optimizing these speedruns." - a great man 2017
tl;dr just stop
Wii U is about 30 seconds faster
paying for the runners would be a bit more sketch since now not only the staff that would be under contract, but the runners as well (unless of course they shell out a few thousand out of the goodness of their hearts)
arriving 22nd leaving 28th, want 3 roomates
Depends on the staff, if they want the marathon to grow then getting more exposure means more runners. Also, unless stream.me is going to be providing long term, having one event paid for would probably not be that great of a payoff
Given enough interest, I'll attempt to run a Mario Party tournament at NASA '17, so here's the plan:
Timing related things: -Will probably run across 2-3 days, probably in the evening or at night depending on availability.
Game choice: -Mario Party 1: known for being a random mess. (I own 1 copy)
-Mario Party 2: More balanced, has virtual console access (so no killing n64 controllers) and costumes (I own 2 copies)
-Mario Party 3: Objectively the best. No costumes. (I own 2 copies)
-Mario Party 4+: Never played them (sorry)
Stream: -Maybe, if not then possible restream after the event.
Prize: -Yes. Secret gamecube game valued at ~20$
If you're interested and/or can bring a setup (once a game is decided) lmk in the thread. Needs at least 16 entrants to run
instead of complaining about how a game that's been out for less then a week doesn't have a full set of guides for you to use you could do the bare minimum research and find this thread http://www.speedrun.com/botw/thread/8m7il
Tags also have the downside of not having a "both" tag so someone without an amiibo can only compare with others running without amiibo whether they like it or not, filters on the other hand mitigate this since you can specify exactly what you see
@Jordian I never said I wanted 2 separate categories. any% is fine as it is, whether or not people want to use amiibos is up to them. Also: no Zelda game has a classified any% category when there's a faster way to beat the game. any% is any%. (exceptions being zelda 1 and 2, which use NG+, and LADX, which "any% ACE" is emulator only while "any%" is the fastest legitimate category)
@pentaleks I will commend the person who will spend $20k on amiibos
The any% category (i.e. beat the game, no restrictions) shouldn't be defined by how interesting or uninteresting it is to watch/play or by how random it is
I did a run of normal mode (prologue - chapter 9-5) yesterday if you could add that, used name entry as start time and when "course clear" shows up as end time (although these can be changed easily). Video here
just thought of this: for run submissions there should be availability as well, I had a conflict when the schedule first came out (which, admittedly, was dealt with really well) and there was no option to say when we were available originally during submissions
The show was a blast, I only got there at noon-ish Saturday so I'll comment on what I saw from there on out:
Good: -In my eyes, the only reason GDQs are still better is 1. it's a week long and 2. it has a kick ass arcade. Everything else from stream quality to variety in runs to the atmosphere was on par or better. Loved the layouts for the stream as well -We managed to stay more or less on estimate, huge props to the tech team for that -Space management was a huge improvement over Dreamhack last August (and other improvements but that was the biggest in my eyes) -I was allowed to do a last minute glitch exhibition short notice (yay)
Improvable: -Supporting Mister Dee was fantastic but adding donation incentives could have gone a long way. Save or kill the puns needs to be a thing. (also slightly related: http://imgur.com/a/gnDDT ) -This might have just been during my run but I was unable to hear the crew behind the curtain during the minish cap race, I was able to faintly hear them over the speakers but I fear I may have cut them off more then once -would have loved to participate in the melee tournament, maybe something can be arranged next time? -more CRTs to practice would have been appreciated -as mentioned, a longer event would have been cool. Maybe not in the immediate future but something to look for in the coming year or 2 if No Reset keeps growing
update, I'm struggling with continuing this game, I'm essentially no where further then I was 3 months ago. Plan is now that I have a cap card I'll do runs sometime in the new year to familiarize myself with the game then pick up from there where I left off.
Just collect 850 berries imo, as long as you see the berry tracker at 850 it's fine. I'll probably derust any% real quick then see what a route would look like
