A known issue with Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is the built in frame limiter locking the FPS around 51. This can make the game appear to stutter. There is a way to uncap the FPS, and has been tested recently in some speedruns. It seems to have almost no impact on the IGT of the run, however it will noticeably improve the RTA performance due to removing most/all of the load time between screens. To restate, the auto-splitter/load remover already handles timing the run without loads, but running with uncapped FPS is a nice QOL change.
Going forward we are going to allow runs using the uncapped FPS adjustment with one caveat. We ask that you display the FPS on screen. This can be done easily by using the Steam Overlay feature or using FRAPS (fraps.com). If you submit a run done with uncapped FPS make sure to select Yes under the variable for uncapped FPS, additionally if your run does not include an FPS display it may be rejected.
If you are interested in trying a run with uncapped FPS there is a guide here you can use https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2793853397
Hello Broken Age fans. I have been enjoying doing some runs of this game. I just wanted to give a quick shoutout to a discord server we have for all things point and click adventure game speedrunning. If that type of thing interests you, and if you found your way here I imagine that might be the case, come check out the Speedy Adventures discord server. We would be happy to have you.
For anyone wondering about a couple IL runs popping up on the leaderboard out of nowhere, I will explain. We have a discord server dedicated to all things point and click speedrunning called Speedy Adventures. We have been running an event for a little while now called The Short Challenge, where the objective is to take a short Point and Click game and have the participants speedrun the game in secret. At the end of the designated time, everyone's times are revealed. This is just done for fun and anyone can enter. Short Challenge games have ranged from demos to game jams to fan games to indie releases and most recently the first case from The Darkside Detective (which was accessible from the free demo). If you are a fan of Point and Click adventure games or if this Short Challenge idea sounds fun, come check out the Speedy Adventures discord server. We would be happy to have you.
A few months ago, we realized that there was inconsistency between runners on load times. At the time we weren't sure what to do about it because we weren't sure how accurate the IGT was, so we just lived with it. Fast Forward to a few days ago, where a runner (FFyte) in the Discord was able to make a load remover for Livesplit. After doing some testing to make sure the load remover was accurate, we can now switch to in game time for our runs. This will more accurately reflect the skill of the runners over the power of their PC.
First off, to download the load remover, use this link here Load Remover
If you need help setting up the autosplitter, runner thewoofs made a quick tutorial. Watch here Set Up Guide
As an update to the ruleset for the game going forward, we will REQUIRE IGT for the top 3 runs on the leaderboard. Also I would like for runners to continue to keep track of your RTA times as well. The load remover has been tested with the Steam release, but as of this post has not been tested with the GOG release. If you have problems with the load remover let us know. As a back up, you can track IGT by checking the auto-save file after you finish the run. We just need to do a little conversion as the auto-save stops the IGT a little bit sooner than the last input.
Hey, so looking at this page there doesn't seem to be much activity. Makes sense considering there is a remastered version. However, over the past month, some other runners and I have done a challenge where we speedran the Demo for this game in secret, then in the end compared times. We had a fun time with this and were interested in seeing about getting a demo% category added to the leaderboard. I know I am planning on bettering my time, and I think some of the others are as well. I would be neat to show off our times on the leaderboard, and who knows maybe some other people might try some runs.
I was thinking about finally biting the bullet and learning one of the non 100 super jump routes while I am still learning how to do 100 super jumps. I was originally planning on learning the full route first, but then I decided it might be better for me to start with one of the other routes first so there wasn't so many things to learn all at once just to do a run. I was wondering what some of the best runs were using the different routes, so I could have something visual to see what route I might want to start with. Without much knowledge of the routes I imagine it would be tricky to figure out which runs are which, so I would appreciate if runners could show off some of the runs in these alternate routes. It may even be useful for other potential new runners as well.
I am just curious, does anyone know how much time is lost on the song? And are there any other differences by running the English version?
