absurdly late response but it's because they aren't very interesting runs. the strats are the same as the jedi categories except all the enemies require a few more hits so it takes a bit longer. the jedi category is already not active, hard would be even worse. i did do a hard 100% run a long time ago if you're curious to see how tedious it is:

Most people either swap the backs of the carts or remove the dust flaps from their N64s.

It can't hurt to have even if it ultimately doesn't get used for sm64 speedrunning. We don't have any real resources for OpenEMU or Mupen64Plus which are both allowed on the current leaderboards. I've been meaning to set the game up on m64p just to see how it is but haven't gotten around to it.

Mupen64Plus is hard for most people to use and PJ64 is relatively simple to use. As simple as PJ64 is to use people still struggle with it.

One thing that is nice about PJ64 1.6 from a moderation perspective is that it is very easy to distinguish 1.6 from later versions. If we know that everyone is on 1.6 then we can be reasonably sure that everything is running the same. It's not easy to distinguish later versions from one another, if they're the exact same (in terms of loading) that's fine but if one later version differs from another we'd have to resort to timing loads for each run, which would make verifying runs more of a pain than it already is.

On top of that were pretty lacking on knowledgeable and willing people to sit around and help others set up and fix their emulators when they have issues (and no matter what we use there will be issues). All our resources and troubleshooting knowledge are built around using 1.6 and largely written by one person (who is no longer active). We'd have to build that knowledge up from scratch again.

So basically, the convenience of not changing outweighs the will to change currently but i'm not against the idea necessarily, it's just not high priority at the moment. Sorry if this response is a mess, writing this on very little sleep.

These are fine for all uses on emulator. For console runs they're fine as long as you use it for the entire run (as opposed to swapping to it in order to cheese framewalk for example). Sorry for the delayed response.

So like when mario is fully opaque again? Yea that might be easier to see than full white. I guess it won't matter really unless we have to frame count a tie or something.

Edit: We decided to go with the first frame where marios shoes go opaque, it's generally pretty obvious to see even with the camera zoomed out (like in RR)

Hey, I've already added the run but one thing I'm unsure about it is how to determine an unambiguous final frame of the run for retiming. I was thinking full fade to white on the final warp, but that might not always be obvious

You can always edit the wiki yourself and add a beginner route. If you need help with that or want opinions on your edits you can post about it in the ukikipedia discord and people will be glad to help.

Greetings,

We recently began accepting runs done using the Nintendo Switch Online service. Due to similarity with the Wii U VC version, we decided to combine NSO with the VC subcategory. So please use the VC subcategory when submitting your NSO runs.

Also, as of a couple months ago, the 3D All-Stars leaderboard no longer accepts individual game runs. Runs done on 3DAS can be submitted here.

we don't verify our own runs, if we upload someone else's run the same mod will submit and verify it.

Probably, from the looks of it it will be similar to Wii VC rather than 3DAS but we'll have to wait and see.

There isn't a hard rule for any of this. As long as you are switching to mario cam quickly after you are able to and don't seem to be trying to gain an advantage you're fine. If you accidentally lakitu cam just switch it back, you'll most likely lose time messing around with the camera anyways.

Ideally, we would commission a gameshark code or something that switches to Mario cam c-down as soon as possible.

We're indefinitely hosting the individual runs of SM64 3D All-Stars on this leaderboard, using the same rules as on the old leaderboards. In the future, we may move these onto the main leaderboards but this was the most frictionless way to move the runs quickly.

On a side note, we're also considering adding a CE leaderboard for Shindou and PAL speedruns of main categories.

There's a portable build of project 64 1.6 with all the recommended plugins in the resources.

I'd rather not go down that route of what about this and this and this and this for every fringe edge case. It's nothing personal, but if something does change in the future it'll have to be well thought out and not just spur of the moment. So for the moment, no it's not allowed, you would have to use vanilla mupen64plus.

Stage RTA is already very underplayed, vc/emu would be graveyards and serve no purpose to highlight any sort of "competition". For the most part ppl doing stage RTA are doing it to practice for normal RTA and we already have a sheet for tracking that sort of stuff.

It is not allowed on the leaderboards, but you are free to enjoy the game however you like and don't let the leaderboards stop you. Locking this thread now before more misinformation like the "x is based on y" stuff is posted, best of luck.
