It's been a while since a new run has been submitted and I think a part of that is of course the obscurity of Amazing Island. But I also think it has something to do with the Emulation issues with Amazing Island. On emus the minigames Waterskip Slider, Crusher, and Smasher don't work as they should. For some reason they don't register every button press and since this is a "Mashing" game that results in very difficult to near impossible runs on it. I imagine it's not fun trying to get a good time while dealing with that.

So I added post story save formats and course specific runs to address a couple things that might make it more fun to run:

  • The original runs here use monster generated by quizzes for efficiency. Post Story categories means players can make their own monster and fine tune them with their favorite items. Which is more in line with what the game is about.

  • Post Story Saves means you don't need to mash through the story.

  • Course specific runs means players on emus can run specific courses that don't feature Waterskip Minigames.

  • Shorter overall run times means more time spent practicing and course specific formats means you can practice courses and still have times to submit.

Hopefully this reasoning all makes sense and we'll start seeing more runs soon!

Hey, just confirming that I have played Waterskip Slider back to back between emulation and original hardware. So I can confirm 100% that original hardware will have the leg up in this regard. For some reason emulation isn't able to register as many presses of rapid tapping in this specific minigame. If you use Emulation you have two options when it comes to trying to replicate a simple rapid press.

  • Use slow motion, which people would likely consider cheating and bring up potential issues with counting times.

  • Use turbo/rapid fire inputs, I've found this to be less reliable since Dolphin still isn't registering every press.

I don't know if I plan to run this game, but I'm someone who loves it and just wanted to confirm it for anyone who sees this in the future.

Edit: I'm aware this is probably common knowledge for the people who have run it already, this is mostly for the benefit of people who are new and might want to try.
