In order to play on the PSTV you need to have a PSN account and buy the game from their store, therefore putting it into the PSN category. Taking it out wouldn't be 'correct' as you put it. I understand that the PSN category covers a lot of different ports of the game (PS3, 4, 5, PSTV, PSVita, PSP) and each one has their own differences in load time. What makes PSTV any different to run against then going against a PSP time? Or a PS4? If you want a 'correct' board on the basis that different systems run at different speeds then each individual platform would need to get it's own board. How many people are going to run on the PSVIta boards? The PS4 boards?

Why stop there? There are 3 different versions of Resident Evil that can be run on PlayStation and Emulator with RE: Director's Cut being the fastest. Should we make separate categories in case someone has a slower version of the game? There are 5 different models of PS2s that can be used, all with different internals effecting load times. Should those get their own categories based on the fact that one model PS2 is slightly faster and someone might have a slower time? The English versions of the game are more difficult and slower then the Japanese versions due to text speed and enemy health. Should those be separated as well?

There are already 184 different categories to run in this game (Between the main boards and categories extensions). Further separating things into new categories is only going to make that much worse. If people are worried about their PS3 runs not being able to compete with PSTV then they can always use the filters option and compare themselves to other PS3 runs.

I must have missed the region that was listed when doing the verification. I’ll get that fixed when I’m at my computer. Thank you for pointing that out!

I've been seeing some people doing runs where they go out of their way to not take even a single point of damage, and I've also noticed that RE2 and RE3 both have a No Damage category extension. I'm wondering if the community would be interested in having an official No Damage category for RE1 as a category extension. Could be separated by Original and Arrange mode, could even do Knife Only No Damage for those crazy enough to attempt it.

Posting this here to get more eyes on it as the boards here have a LOT more followers then the CE boards just to get more eyes on the idea.

I will be posting this on the main board as well to get more eyes on it as we only have 69 followers (nice) for CE at the moment. I think it will have similar interest to when we added Zoolander%.

The fastest way to run the Arrange mode category extensions is the PSXjin Emulator. Considering that we added Duckstation because PSXjin is working less and less on newer computers for the main boards though I don't see why that can't be changed for here. One thing I don't want to see is someone not be able to compete because an emulator is outdated. That does raise the concern for the runs using said emulator that are already on the boards. I'm sure we can do something about that though.

You can run the arrange categories with what ever platform allows for arrange to be played, aka Playstation, Emulator, or PSN. What ever platform you choose to do the run on please follow the main board rules for running said platform, for example showing the Playstation drivers if you're running on a PS2 or having the settings for Duckstation set up as if you were running on the main board.

I had this happen to me recently where after the first fight of chapter 4 if you run into the next area the game doesn't load properly and softlocks. This happened to me 3 times today, then I tried walking into it and it was fine, then loaded it again and ran in and it soft locked again. Wondering if this happened to anyone else in the past.

And my brain is so fried from work that I just now realized that this isn’t the RE1 forum XD I need sleep and a break from the heat.

As long as you’re following all of the rules for the PC category I don’t see why not? I figure there would likely be a lot of crashing though with how old it is.

What emulators are allowed for running this game?

Massachusetts, USARaclesis1 year ago

Found out today that you can get this to happen just by holding down the start button instead of mashing it after you choose the difficulty.

I don't see why not. I'm still trying to do it on PC, but when I can get it down somewhat consistently I'll start attempting it on PlayStation.

As the rules are currently the timer ends "once VICTORY appears after the final country has been annihilated". Though with two of the countries, Caerleon and New Almekia, since they're allied with each other, the computer can take the last castle meaning that this never happens. For runs where this happens what is the proper time to end the timer? Right when the castle falls? When the fade in starts for the final talking part? I've been ending my timer when this happens right when the game fades in after the last castle is taken before the last talking part.

These guys beat me to it, but yes the game run at 30fps. The 60fps that you're seeing is because of Show Display FPS being checked and not Show Game Frame Rate being checked. Seeing this thread and reviewing the wording of the rules it only says to have "Show FPS" checked, but not which one. The rules will be updated to include having both "Show Display FPS" and "Show Game Frame Rate" checked so this kind of confusion doesn't happen in the future. Apparently when Duckstation first came out there was only one option that would display both, but they have since been separated to those two options.

Plant 42 skip is pretty much the hardest skip to get in the game. You have to leave the room at the same frame that Plant 42 takes fatal damage, then go back in, load your bazooka with flame rounds (You can use grenade around if you want, but you have to hit 5 times from my testing in order for it to work as opposed to the 2-3 with flame rounds) which gets you control of Jill, then move near the fireplace without being able to see where you are, and shoot the tentacles. Then you need to get the key and leave the room before the cutscene picks back up. There's a chance you can just straight up miss the vines as well.

There is a slightly different way you can go about doing it by using text buffering to glitch the cutscene. It's slightly slower but it might be a bit more consistent in getting the beginning of the glitch to work. Here's a video of the other method of getting the skip.

Try using the Jill Any% splits found in "New Splits for RE1 and RE1CE" by Shiido under the Resources tab here on SRC along with the built in autosplitter from Livesplit. Again make sure everything is set to game time, including the Timing Method in the Timer tab, the Timing Methods for +/- and Time columns found in the Splits Tab, and you have compare against set to game time. the timer and splits tabs are found under Edit Layout. ALso make sure you don't have an autosplitter in your layout as well as using the autosplitter in the edit splits tab, they'll make it so you'll end up splitting multiple times. If you have any more issues let us know and I'll see if I can help you out more. :)

I found out recently that you can skip the intro after selecting the difficulty and go right into the first organization phase. I was just hitting Start after selecting easy and it went right to the game without showing the intro. Tried it again after just to make sure and it worked again. Saves only like a minute or so by skipping the intro and the talky bits, but still, time save! :)

Yes, a run with the black boxes can be accepted to the boards. :)

Alright awesome. Now I have another issue. I got the game working on Snes9x (It's 1.60) then went and downloaded the savefiles from the resources section. I can't extract the files from the zipped folder or even look at what's inside. Is there something wrong with the download or am I doing something wrong?

Massachusetts, USARaclesis2 years ago

Which emulators are allowed to runs this game? I have snes9x for FF4 runs and I was wondering if I could use that to run this game as well. Also will the files for the Pazuzu save and end game save for the resistance glitch work for snes9x as well as Bizhawk?
