In short, I think the way to tell:
- Dragon has 15 HP => v1.0
- Dragon has 13 HP, I have no idea what else makes it easier => v1.1.10
- Dragon has 13 HP, no dog, this is most v.1.1 runs => v1.1.15
- Dragon has 13 HP, dog in corner => v1.1.16
- Dragon has 13 HP, gazer ?s are purple => v1.1.17
I've added a variable tag for the sub-version, but trying to separate the boards further by e.g. v1.1.10 and v.1.17 is enough of a headache (as well as retroactively tagging all runs) that I think it's fine to leave as-is
If this doesn't get beaten by a solid minute by the end of the day, I will be incredibly surprised
Thank you for being on top of things!
I've added a new subcategory Version and set the default to 1.1. Existing runs are still available and present on the 1.0 leaderboard, don't worry!
You can still submit v1.0 runs if you download the old version from the itch.io page but the default will be whatever the current version is (so 1.1).
I don't expect to need to do this for every version but given the dragon now has 2 less HP this is obviously one to split the runs by!
Yep, that's why we have the "must show the start of the game/end of previous run" rule.
If people want to record a run of this and people think it's actually an interesting category you can grind for or compete at (IMHO it does not seem particularly interesting, it's just "can you click on numbers in order really fast") then we can see about a leaderboard
Any sort of indication the run was generated during the video is good - either starting from "run game"/page refresh or from "died to a rat, restart"
So getting 303 (or 302, sometimes the generator glitches) is possible. I think it definitely involves some amount of RNG - I've gotten it 2 or 3 times, and when I've tried to record it 4 or 5 times I've done the same as you have here...
Basically you need to use as few scrolls to level as possible. If you use a scroll at level 7, you'll gain 7 hearts but that same scroll counts for 15 hearts at level 15...which means if you manage to avoid using scrolls early on (i.e. you manage to get the 5 gold from chests plus maybe the gnome early) then you can get a full clear.
Because otherwise there are ways to replay the game with more information with the same seed; that is, being able to see the whole screen and work out where to click.
Basically it's necessary to make sure each grid is completely new to you. It was only brought to my attention yesterday that this is possible :)
Just to let people know about the recent rules update moving forward:
You must start your video showing the reset of a previous game or the game starting from a refresh. That is, you need video proof at the start of the video of you resetting the game.
Either a video starting from "you were killed by <something>, press R to restart" or from the itch.io "Run Game" screen is fine.
Someone asked for it. I wasn't sure how many runs there would be submitted so I didn't make it to begin with.
the implication would be, I believe, that you don't gain brick boost proportional to the number of bricks that come off your car, but rather proportional to the health you lose (and all cars have the same)
