On November 16th, 2018, a rule change made all subsequent runs get timed by RTA instead of IGT because of reset exploit.

In September-October 2018 I didn’t own a computer and didn’t record my runs yet, but recorded my times. As they were unrecorded, they have no proof for RTA, so I would not count them as verified runs, but they can be a side note in the category’s history. I did take a level select screenshot from my 30:48 with its in-game time. AntLadders’s 11:34 wasn’t recorded as he was derusting.

There's runs like this one where it says "Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported". What was on there and how do I view them now?

I tried looking for this in 2019 but only found a speedrun from the 2015 marathon. It's great to see there's more runners now.

The BFDIA 5b challenges spreadsheet is now open! The one category right now is least deaths, with Any% and 100%. Submit your runs through the submission form. I've been talking with Gave2Haze, the guy who set up the leaderboards and also created the Deathless category when the leaderboards started in February 2017. He's okay with the category being closed and he didn't know there were necessary deaths when he made it. I was the only other runner up until now and I'm fine with closing the category. The reason is at a top level it would be the same as Any% as the optimal strategies for Any% is under the game's necessary amount of deaths (24). What I think I will do is archive it soon (like the IGT subcategory) and in its place I can make a minimum deaths challenge spreadsheet. We could add more challenges to it and side categories in the future.

Everybody in the 5b Discord seems to agree with closing it. The only two runners of it so far (me and AntLadders) agree and so does the category's creator, Gave2Haze.

By the way more categories can be added, like 100%, I just don't know all of the unlock requirements or what the rules would be. So if anyone finishes a run of a new category, I could add it.

So one of the most important things this game needs is a map or route of the lungs section. This thread should encourage that, post your hear if you make some.

Under Settings then Video the fps has always been set to 60. But sometimes it records in 30 fps and I don't know why that is, can someone help?

This game has many different character skins, some of which can affect gameplay and have different abilities. Most are fairly minor, but Mega Man has a Rokko Chan skin that has significant changes (for example, dash jumping like Bass) that make it basically a direct upgrade for the Mega Man categories, leaving the other skins as slower options.

It was brought up recently to make a misc. category for Mega Man with Rokko Chan not allowed, then later a rule change to ban Rokko Chan from the main Mega Man categories and move her to a misc. category. Voting on Discord opened on May 12th, 2020. It will be open for one week and close on May 19th, 2020. React with 👍 to vote for Mega Man No Rokko Chan being a misc. category, and react with 👎 to vote for Rokko Chan becoming the misc. category and banning the skin from all Any% Mega Man categories.

For full-game, timing starts when your character is selected. I've now made a list of the start of all character select animations. This is what I time off of, since some can happen before the box starts to close. Bass sometimes only moves like a pixel forward on the first frame so it can be hard to see.

We will be hosting a tournament for SMB1 Bass Any%. We held voting and Bass won. As a popular character and a currently hotly contested category, it's a good fit for our first tournament. It will be double elimination, best 2 out of 3 games all the way through. Any difficulty or custom rules is allowed. Round 1 will be on the week of November 3-9, 2019.
