In Cities: Skylines II, reaching Megalopolis used to be a quick task—simply spam buildings for a few minutes and you’d be done. However, since this glitch was patched, achieving Megalopolis now takes about a day of gameplay and involves building a city with a population of over 200,000. This makes it clear that the pre-2.0 and post-2.0 runs are fundamentally different.

Given that a 3-minute run and an 8-hour run are so distinct, it seems logical to split the leaderboard into pre-2.0 and post-2.0 categories. What are your thoughts on this?

Hello, I am KillIt, a Cities Skylines II speed runner, along with being the newest supermod on the team. As a runner, I’ve always had my gripes with how things are done around here, so as a supermod, I will be enacting some changes. I understand I can’t run things alone, so if you are interested in this topic like I am, please voice your opinions on these changes so we can take other people's viewpoints into consideration.

  1. Runs are no longer required to be livestreamed. Video proof is required.

  2. Runs no longer have to be run on the latest patch.

  3. Runs are no longer allowed to be run on custom maps. All currently verified custom map speedruns will stay on the leaderboard.

  4. The empty categories of 500k and 250k will be removed.

  5. A new permanent Discord link will be made and shared.

If you are a runner of this game and disagree with any of the changes, reply to this post so your voice can be heard. If a community consensus is reached, we can revert or make further changes.

This post is my opinion as a top speedrunner for this game. Economy 2.0 just came out today, and it removes government subsidies, which means having tons of cash and spending money all willy nilly is now a lot harder. I imagine runs will be harder to beat on newer patches. Im speaking about it the day it launched so I may not understand the full picture, ive only played the new update for like 10 minutes.

It could mean that runners will play on old patches of the game, its really common in speedrunning communities to play years old builds of a game (think minecraft 1.16.1 when latest is 1.21, or GTA 5 being on an ancient 2014 build of the game). Im totally fine with people choosing what version they want to be on. My runs have taken place over 2 versions, and no one called for a split of the leaderboard.

I do imagine people complaining about how unfair it is to compete with old school runs. My response would be either try to get really good and beat old runs with newer patches, or downgrade.

I do not support making a new category or invalidating all previous runs. While the Economy 2.0 patch has changed the game, I do not think the speedrunning leaderboard should split over this. I have seen other leaderboards do that and its really goofy when there's 2 categories for old and new builds of the game. I think a merged leaderboard is better, with players just encouraged to play on whatever build of the game is fastest.

Summary, I dont think we should split the leaderboard into old vs new runs. I also dont think we should delete all old runs. Runs uploaded afte rtoday should be on the same leaderboard as those before today. I think any version of the game is valid, as the speedrun is about running the game as fast as possible, any version of the game is valid and there is no reason the current build of the game should be viewed as more legitimate.

I am very bias as I just obtained a world record, meaning anyone who wants to beat it would need to either do a better run on a harder build, or downgrade their game to compete with it. Just saying where my viewpoint comes in.

I think the tryhard sweats will downgrade them game for speedrunning, while the more casual gamers will play on whatever build their game happens to be on, usually the latest. I think thats how it should be: if you care about min-maxing, downgrade, if you dont, dont.

Hello, I am KillIt, and I’d like to summon the mods, along with other top runners, to discuss how timing is done in Cities Skylines: II speedruns. The game rules state “The time starts once you place something, buy something or unlock something in your city until the objective is met.”

This rule, at least in the 1k category, is not being followed by any of the top runs that are verified.

The top 3 verified runs of Taisato’s 8m 58s, BillydyPan’s 8m 49s, and my 8m 33s, all have their timers start as soon as the map loads in (instantly), rather than when a road is first placed.

So in theory, all these runs need to be retimed to reflect the current ruleset, however, I put forward a motion that instead, the rules should be changed so that the timer starts when the map first appears on screen.

I have checked the any% world record too, and it also starts on when the map appears, rather than when he places the first object.

This means basically every notable run would require a retime to follow the game rules. I think changing the rules is a much better idea.

So, the catagory Dungeons - New Profile - Any% has an archive, with runs in it, but in the main catagory, there is nothing in it. I am planning to run this catagory, but am not sure where to submit it. Also, can the rules be explained more, what is the goal, and what can I not do?

How am I meant to time this category? When does the timer start? Can a friend drop me items? What if it was a random? What about picking up the coins that occasionally drop from people (that talisman thing)? Since buying armor seems to be the meta, do I have to avoid picking up these coins, or just don't spend them? Recommended timer software? Does the timer stop when you complete entrance? Can I have my hype mage friends carry me or does it have to be a random group of people? Is it okay to use a different minecraft account instead of my main to avoid having to make and remove a profile? Why is the category so dead, and why is there an archive?

I'd prefer a mod answer but if you happen to know the answers, that's also fine too
